Chapter 3: "What Lies in Dust"
by Michael Kortes
In Westcrown, darkness brings fear and death, the night haunted by the spawn of a terrible curse. Striving to free the city from its decades-old blight, the PCs must reveal
a long-buried secret and a treasure locked away for ages.
Their journey will set them against the scum of Westcrown’s underworld, denizens of the haunted night, and the very forces of Hell itself, all in an attempt to rekindle the memories of long-dead spirits with stories still to tell. Yet what those souls reveal might prove even deadlier than the city’s midnight curse.
This volume of Pathfinder Adventure Path includes:
- “What Lies in Dust,” a Pathfinder RPG adventure for 5th-level characters,
by Michael Kortes
- Revelations on and rules for joining Golarion’s most feared law bringers,
the infamous Hellknights, by F. Wesley Schneider
- Diverse and exotic treasures recovered from across Golarion by the
Pathfinder Society, by Craig Shackleton
- The unfortunate return of Radovan’s gangster past in the latest chapter of the
Pathfinder’s Journal by Dave Gross
- Seven new monsters by David Eitelbach, F. Wesley Schneider, and Hank Woon
A Pathfinder Roleplaying Game adventure for characters of 5th to 7th level. The Council of Thieves Adventure Path is the first to take full advantage of the new Pathfinder Roleplaying Game rules, and works with both the Pathfinder RPG and the standard 3.5 fantasy RPG rules set.
Pathfinder Adventure Path is Paizo Publishing's monthly 96-page, perfect-bound, full-color softcover book printed on high-quality paper. It contains an in-depth Adventure Path scenario, stats for about a half-dozen new monsters, and several support articles meant to give Game Masters additional material to expand their campaign. Pathfinder Adventure Path volumes use the Open Game License and work with both the Pathfinder RPG and the standard 3.5 fantasy RPG rules set.

It's getting pretty frustrating waiting for this thing, especially considering I haven't even received the email saying that it will ship within the next week or two.

Yeah, especially when last week Vic said "sometime next week".
And here I am, a brand new subscriber to the AP's....

Hey, now... I said "Probably another week or so." Two things to note about that particular construction: First, "probably" is not the same as "definitely," and second, "another week or so" suggests erring on the long side.
Hopefully we'll have more firm information later this week.

A part of me hates to say this but this volume is the one I am most excited about in the whole freaking series. PCs get to visit a museum and play around! Never saw Night at the Museum but I've enjoyed many a story and heard numerous OTR shows where part of the adventure takes place in some place like this. I wish I could afford to visit local museums more often but visiting them in a virtual manner is the next best thing.

First time posting here. I recently subbed to the Adventure path and am pretty excited about this next issue. The first one was pretty awesome, having come from a drama background myself. Keep up the great work guys. My new homebrew campaign starts next weekend and I look forward to many more tidbits of campaign info from you guys.
Rich? Titbits? Really? :P

Can't we subscribers get the pdf so we can read through it? I know it probably isn't finished yet and when it finally is we have to wait another week for it.
I finished the Six Fold Trial last week, so this week is play other games week.
I already used Whitechin, made him a druid. I am hoping for some Golems in this adventure.

I asked the same question, to whit seekerofshadowlight replied...

You might check your spam filter and your account history to see if the order was placed despite your lack of email. It may also be that your order hasn't been created yet and is further down in the queue. In that case, you'll have your pre-ship email sometime next week followed by your ship email when it actually goes out.

I remember getting the confirmation email about my subscription, and nothing but "pizza coupons" in the spam box (LOL), so I'm betting (hoping) it's the latter.
Thanks!

Not necessarily at all. Don't be spooked by who gets an e-mail a day or two before someone else. One can drive oneself crazy that way.
I don't know if they've ever done a second printing of an AP chapter, and if they have, it's very rare. These shipments of the AP chapters are large enough to cover every subscriber with some to send to distributors, some to sell at the Paizo on-line store, and some to replace the damaged copies. You'll get yours out of the shipment that just arrived. Note the certainty and conviction of how I said that.
What happens is that these batches are organized by the largest number of subscribers who have a shipment that has all the same books. Basically they generate lists of subscribers and they organize them into similar groups. The group that has the largest number of identical orders (regardless if that group is getting two books or five books), is processed first... and then the next largest group is processed and so on.
It's just how they automate the process to make it as fast as possible. If you have 500 orders that are all getting the identical products, it is easier to package those up before stopping and doing smaller number of orders that have differing items.
So.. in conclusion.. you didn't get an e-mail yet just because they're not done processing all the orders yet. You'll probably get it Monday or Tuesday.

This is true of the shipping process, but the sending of order confirmations is much faster, and doesn't work like that—those normally all get sent in a short window on the same day.
From what I can see from home, it looks like a confirmation should have been sent in this case... I've asked Ross to check into it.

Well.. I was half-wrong, as Vic pointed out. Your confirmation should not have been held up.
But.. based upon what you wrote above, I'm not sure you entirely follow what I was saying (in respect to shipping).
"Easy" doesn't necessarily enter into the picture. It's all about the number of people who are going to have identical items shipped, regardless of the quantity of those items.
Let me use your own words to illustrate my point. You say your order should be easy, because you're only subscribed to the Adventure Path. On the face of it, I see where you're coming from because intuitive logic suggests that a single item is easier to ship.
But that's not necessarily how it works.
Hypothetically speaking, if more people have subscribed to the Chronicle Books and the Adventure Path, than just the Adventure Path only (and assuming both books are in and ready to ship), then those are going to go before the people who are only getting the AP alone. That is, it's not the simplest order that gets filled first; the orders that go first that are identical to the largest group of subscribers.
Of course, as Vic pointed out.. confirmations don't work that way, so I'm referring to shipments only.
People like me and Yoda have been doing this for a couple years now. :) Ultimately, if you dwell on it too much you'll drive yourself crazy. Though, since I was running a game at the time it was hard to wait for the Bestiary.

I still haven't seen anything in my email for this AP. I just subscribed couple of little over a weeks ago or so. I do get other Paizo email like the Advanced Players Guide play test notification.
So seeing as this will be my first subscribed issue of the AP is it normal for shipping to occur for some but not others?

The books haven't arrived yet—hopefully today!—so we've only sent order confirmations, not shipping confirmations. And because this was the starting volume of your subscription, the subscription confirmation e-mail also confirmed your first volume, so we didn't send another.
But once they do start going out, it is normal for the shipping process to take a few days to hit everyone.

Um, Vic? Why does the store blog have a post that reads:
"With a huge sigh of relief, we received our shipment of Pathfinder Adventure Path #27: What Lies in Dust. It seems like forever since we raised the curtain on the previous installment, Pathfinder Adventure Path #26: The Sixfold Trial. But a delay here or there isn't going to stop us in our quest to free Westcrown from the menacing evil!"
I am, by no means, complaining. Just curious because things aren't quite matching up.
Thank you for providing the update, regardless, and I very much look forward to this fine AP module.

D'oh! We did receive a shipment that day, but Lisa must have been confused about which products were in it when she wrote that—we only received the GM Screen and the second printing of the Core Rulebook that day.

Ah ha! That makes perfect sense, and thanks for the clarification there. Very happy to hear that the second print run has arrived, I'm sure that will make a lot of very eager Pathfinders very happy as well.
I shall wait patiently for the AP. (Which is fine because my wife just greenlit the return to my favorite character...)

Well, the printer swears up and down that if we don't get the last bit by the end of business today (and since it's currently 5:00 PM, it's doubtful) we'll have it early tomorrow, so we've gone ahead and started processing with what we have.

Got my PDF this morning, hard copy on its way. Just browsing through it, this looks to be one of the best single AP books yet!
Adventure:
- Very cool that the Devildrone map does not include any text or DM call outs. You can print this to size and use it on the table if you have a plotter.
- Maps in general look awesome.
- Handout of p25 looks to have the wrong font in the PDF.
- Isolation Sphere trap on p30 seems very cool.
Treasures of the Pathfinders:
This really rocks! We could use at least a 64 page source book full of this kind of goodness!
Hellknights:
Everything you need to know PLUS a full playable class description. Anyone want to do an evil campaign? At least one PC will have to be a Hellknight!
Fiction:
I've heard good reviews of the story so far.
Bestiary:
- The Idols look like they could be a lot of fun to use.
- Not a Naga fun, but the Royal Naga will definitely make its way into one of my campaigns.
This looks to be one of the best AP books from top to bottom. Great job!

We are in the process of charging and shipping out all of the subscriber orders this week. Your book is in queue and should be shipping out soon.
As for the credit card activity you are seeing, it is not a charge, it is an authorization. Follow that link to find out why it appears, then disappears, and reappears when your book is shipped out. :)

I just checked the My Subscriptions page, it indicates that the last volume to ship was Pathfinder 26 and the next would be Pathfinder 28. Also, the preorder for no. 27 has not appeared, my bank account does not appear to have been charged anything and I haven't received any e-mail notice of the imminent shipping of no. 27. I am outside the US, but I assume you should at least have placed the preorder when others have had their orders shipped already. Something must have gone wrong, could you please fix this?

I just checked the My Subscriptions page, it indicates that the last volume to ship was Pathfinder 26 and the next would be Pathfinder 28. Also, the preorder for no. 27 has not appeared, my bank account does not appear to have been charged anything and I haven't received any e-mail notice of the imminent shipping of no. 27. I am outside the US, but I assume you should at least have placed the preorder when others have had their orders shipped already. Something must have gone wrong, could you please fix this?
Atrocious, while I'm not with Paizo, I'd make sure to make a post in the Customer Service board so that this can be seen much easier. In this forum it could be very easy to be missed by Paizo staff/customer service. Either that or send them a quick email with the same information and they'll get right on top of it.

My book is still "Pending". Weird how some have already gotten the PDF and some are still waiting....
