Yes, I agree, order through Paizo, if you don't mind paying more... Of course, you get a cheaper amount with poorer service...

I guess you get what you pay for. :(

I will NEVER order any Paizo product through Amazon again. My ship was late, arrived damaged, and the service was all around horrific. Whereas with the only hiccup I ever had with Paizo, they responded quickly and professionally with the perfect response.

In this economy, I understand the desire to save money. I even get FREE two-day ship with Amazon, but I still would much rather order from Paizo directly.

Are some pdfs being made available later than others? I have my book preordered and am a subscriber, yet I haven't received any emails about the pdf being available.
Just wondering...

It's all based on when your order is marked as "Shipped" in the system. As soon as it's packed, sealed, labeled and logged as shipped, your PDF should unlock (as well as you should receive the email notification that your order has shipped).

Purchase has been pending for the last two days, and now since it's after hours it looks like I am sol on getting yet again tonight.

Pretty weak IMO, I am gonna get banged for multiple shipping fees now since I changed my subscription shipping options before all of this just so they wouldn't hold the pdf.

sigh.

Have you considered giving Paizo a call during business hours? While complaining is nice for venting frustrations, you might be able to merge your orders or find a different solution with Cosmo or Alison in time to catch your order before it comes up in the queue.

That isn't the point, the point is seeing "pending" going on three days. I knew I was going to have to pay more for shipping if I changed my subscription preferences to get the shipment and thus the file out faster. I was willing to accept that as a small price to pay if it was going to get me the file faster, which it hasn't.

Having to pay extra for the broken up shipping is just the bonus.

I'd add that it seems they're working hard/late to get everything processed. My shipment notification didn't come until about 6:45pm, which indicates they're putting in overtime to get stuff out.

I'd bet that if he kept his order broken, he'd get access to the PDF very soon.

Late hours indeed, my shipping email arrived with a timestamp after 10pm at night! That is definitely burning the midnight oil...

Andoran (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path Subscriber)

Aye, I had ordered it through Amazon (along with The Ghost King to get free shipping), but they are so messed up at Amazon anymore, I'm getting The Ghost King almost TWO WEEKS after it hit the stores and they bumped the Bestiary to mid-November.

I remember the days when pre-ordering at Amazon meant that you'd more than likely get the book the day it was released to the stores (if not a day or two before).

Oh well, means I've cancelled the Bestiary portion of my order and signed up for the subscription. Heck, I was going to buy the PDF anyway, so Amazon's free shipping was only saving me about $5-$6.

Now, I'm just waiting for the shipping and unlock. I'll probably STILL get it before The Ghost King gets here.

Changing your shipping method doesn't change that they still have to ship lots of books at the same time. If you feel there is a problem with your order I would suggest sending a message to customer service, but changing your shipping method still will likely result in you receiving the PDF a couple weeks earlier than if you hadn't done that. If you thought that changing your shipping method meant that you would get the PDF right when they started shipping the books, then I'm sorry but that isn't how it has worked.

I wish you luck in your shipment going out soon.

Ok, I have a brilliant (to me, at least) idea! (Stop me if this sounds dumb or hard to implement).

I know this wouldn't be put in anytime soon to fix my lack of Bestiary, but I was thinking about the issue and I was wondering if this sounded like it might work.

Could there be a suboption for subscribers who are set to Monthly or Ship With AP, that is like "with early PDF access". A subscriber who has the suboption selected would be opting to do something like so:

For example, lets use my account as an example, the proposed price of the Bestiary PDF will be 9.99. I'll be waiting a week until Seeker of Secrets comes out before I get my bestiary shipped, which means I can't look at the PDF for a week. What if, my card was charged the full PDF price of 9.99, allowing me to read the PDF for the next week. These PDF charges are subtracted from the total owed of the monthly shipment (ie: next week I'd be charged "Bestiary - Bestiary PDF"). This way I would be sated with a PDF until the actual hardcover ships, and if I randomly cancelled my order you would have already received full payment for the PDF I have downloaded.

Any thoughts?

Thats a good idea that I would also like to support. I like to save on shipping costs but would like access to my books as early as possible. With my present setup I will not get the pdfs until mid November :-((

Just realized that the Seekers of Secrets was delaying my Bestiary. Doh! Hopefully they can yank it from my order and send it nxt month, freeing me for Bestiary goodness :-)

Wish I'd noticed that earlier, I've a day off today and could be browsing pretty pdfs. Now I just have to do all that painting instead :-(

but it is ... Seeker of secrets doesn't get too the office for at least another week, possibly 2. Those orders won't even get to pending until then. Vic said over a week ago that the bestiaries would start to go out either Tuesday or Wednesday based on the time they were scheduled to arrive in the office. Your order goes to 'pending' when they authorize your credit card, which is usually 5-7 days prior to shipping (when they know the date it will make it to the office)

When Vic suggested to change any subscriptions to "don't hold anything" that is exactly what I did. So it has nothing to do with "seekers of secrets",holding up the order - everything ships individually. So you were saying?

Had they already created an order and pre-authed your credit card for the princes/bestiary/seekers combo? You might need to get them to split the order, I don't know if the system will do it automagically.

It might be just the queue. I’m in a similar situation as Auxmaulous only I’ve taken your recommended action, Robert, and I haven’t gotten my order shipped either.

Let me give you a specific timeline.

On last Thursday I changed by setting from “Hold for AP” to “Don’t hold for anything”. I received an instant e-mail confirmation showing that the Bestiary, the Hellbook, and Seekers would then ship.

On Friday, I saw that Seekers might hold the process up, because it hadn’t actually arrived yet. I shot a note to Cosmo, but it was too late in the business day perhaps.

On Tuesday, Cosmo promptly answered my request to split off anything that would delay the Bestiary. However it didn’t ship that day.

Wednesday, it didn’t ship.

Today, I’m hopeful.

Now understand, I’m not as upset as Auxmaulous. However, I’m not seeing how any of this would have made much difference. Apparently there are just that many Bestiary’s that need to be packaged and shipped, and it’s just taking that long.

In another thread, Lisa said one of the warehouse team was out sick, which is unfortunate. But “it is what it is.”

I’m hopeful our books will ship today.

If splitting Seekers off my order did delay it, that would be only minor critique, because “Don’t Hold for Anything” should have encompassed that. But that’s life.

Watcher wrote:

That it kind of my point - "Don't hold Anything" should mean exactly that. It shouldn't mean call paizo's office to complain, or send cosmo and notice to fix my shipment, or for that matter hold up one book because of another book. It should mean exactly that - don't hold anything.

Obviously Watcher's request to split off the Seekers book from his already configured "Don't Hold Anything" has not made a difference.

(RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8)

I broke mine to monthly so I wait until next week.

I understand the impatience (I'm having it too) but come on guys, it's not like it's food or something.

Here is what happened. We were told by all of our printers (3 different ones) that Book of the Damned, the Bestiary, Seeker of Secrets, Map Pack Extradimensional Spaces, and Ship of Ishtar were all arriving by the 12th of October. When the printers tell us a date like that that close to the date, we tend to believe them and take them at their word. So we authorized shipments to anybody who would get the above products in their subscriptions. We need to do this authorization a) to get the credit card companies to pay us when we ship the products and b) to give subscribers a chance to cancel if they wish. We usually try to do it a whole week ahead of time, but sometimes we only get a long weekend's worth of notice. In this case, we had the whole week.

So everything looks good until the Thursday before the books are to arrive, one of the printers, the one doing Seeker of Secrets and Xtradimensional Spaces, called to tell us there would be a one week delay or so on getting those products to us. The problem was that we had already set up the shipments to ship and told the credit card companies. Now there is a way for Cosmo to manually go into each order affected and split the shipments, but we had emailed people and told them they were getting a specific shipment and so there was a problem of doing this splitting without their permission. It is part of our deal with the credit card processing people. We need to be able to show them that we are shipping what we told the customer we would ship. If we break this rule, we could get fined or even told that we can't take credit cards anymore! So we sent an email out to everyone that we thought would be affected by this asking them to contact us if they wanted us to split it into two shipments.

It isn't a perfect answer, but there usually isn't a perfect one when we get screwed on a shipment this late in the process. We are processing thousands upon thousands of shipments, so it gets a little daunting. Plus we are limited by what our computer software allows us to do. There is a huge amount of flexibility, but every time something happens that has never happened before, and this is one of those times, there isn't an easy button to push to make things better. But we try to do our best and get the products out to people as quickly as possible.

Thanks to everyone for bearing with us as we sort out the mess and do our best to get everyone's products to them when they wanted them.

-Lisa

Hi Lisa, Just want to let you know that I'm one of the people who would be affected by the Seekers delay, but I never got an email. It's not a big deal for me but I figured you should know if there's a glitch.

Thanks for the reply Lisa! Very informative.

And Matthew Morris, since you used the plural, I assume you meant me as well as Auxmaulous. Here's the deal.. I specifically said I wasn't upset, and implied that I was just good naturedly excited. The reason I posted this morning was because I was seeing this dogpile on this guy telling him what he should've, could've, might have done. So I was pointing out that sometimes it just doesn't matter. It ships as soon as it can. And actually you make somebody feel worse about it.

WoooHooo! Just got my shipment email! Thanx Paizo can't wait.

Anyhoo, I've since posted in Cust Serv asking if my order can be split. I'm sure it'll all work out. Thanks for taking the time to explain it all, Lisa.

Watcher,

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply any offence to you or anyone in particular. I used 'guys' to include anyone who was other than pleased about the delay. Just pointing out that we're waiting for books. Some folks (again without being specific) are upset, but it's not like they'll die without it.

FYI, I work an insurance company, and my partner works for an Rx Company. Our shipments can literally be life or death, and sometimes we can get less information than Lisa and co. have given us.

Am I disappointed? Yeah, of course. Will I live? Yes.

And I didn't mean to come down on you like a ton of bricks either. :)

I'm gonna put this in spoilers to keep from derailing the thread.

Spoiler:
I guess it's been a bugbear of mine since about this past August, when the Core Book came out. I used to chime in on Customer Service issues in order to help. But about the time the Core book came out, I would notice a tendancy of well intentioned folks to come to Paizo's defense whenever there was a customer service issue. The problem that I saw was that they just weren't helping, they were exacerbating matters.

Now, I thought about speaking up about it at the time, but I just looked the other way. It was a train wreck. Nevertheless, the feeling is still there.

I think we sometimes have to let Paizo be the vendor, and the customer be the customer; whether we agree with them or not. Whether we know for certain that the Customer is wrong or being unfair. Ultimately, the excellent service that Paizo gives will speak for itself. If someone is unhappy with it, they'll go somewhere else and maybe realize that for themselves.

There was one thread concerning the Core Book shipping situation that frankly made me wonder why anyone would want to post on the boards if they had a Customer Problem, because it became a Court of Public Opinion. At that time I vowed that if I had a serious Customer Service problem, there's no way I would do anything *but* call Cosmo and Allison on the phone. There's no way I would subject myself to a mob with an opinion. However, that's actually hurting Paizo, because I'm sure it's far more efficient to handle these things on the messageboard than answer the phone constantly.

Now, I didn't stick to that, because I just posted a request a couple days ago, but it was fairly straight forward request.

Anyway, that's where I'm coming from, and you certainly didn't do anything wrong. I'm sharp like Sebastian sometimes, but vastly less popular.

Regarding the delay for Seekers problem, I just subscribed to RPG and Chronicles (selecting Damned as my first choice), with Hold for Monthly as the shipping option. I got the ship email a couple nights ago.

I'm wondering why it shipped before Seekers was available. It might have to do with the fact that I just resubscribed to Chronicles rather than having an existing subscription. A similar thing happened a couple months ago when I resubscribed to Companion, Modules and PFAP and they shipped sooner than expected.

Thank you for the clarification Lisa, I appreciate the explination as to the problem with the "don't hold anything" vs the charge system Paizo has set in place.

Folks,

I'd just like to mention that shipping subscriber copies of our products takes time—several days, actually—so if you're still seeing "Pending," that's nothing to be worried about. We started Tuesday evening, and I'm told that almost all of the domestic shipments will be done by today; we'll try to get the last international stragglers out tomorrow—or maybe even today, if things go smoothly.

And being at the back of the queue doesn't mean we love you any less—our queues are organized to minimize our processing time, with a general rule that the most common packages (considering contents, shipping method, and destination) are shipped first.

You can't fool me Wertz! I know you! I know how you operate! And I know it was you who let the air out of my tires, then hid my tire-pressure gage in the bottom of my sock drawer! And I know it was that Mona guy who turned on all my flashlights, then left them on so the batteries would run down. And don't even get me started on what Cosmo did to my pet hamster - the poor little fella won't even get off his wheel anymore, just keeps running and running....

So...does this mean we can call this the "Aberzombie and Glitch Escapade?"

My apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this.

I just got my pdf version and I noticed that the Aasimar Characters have +2 Charisma, and +2 wisdom but no negative. The Tiefling has +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence and -2 Charisma.

Was it really the intention to give the Aasimar's such an advantage? It would seem to me that they are fairly overpowered compared to the standard races. (This may just be a personal opinion though.)

I also do understand that the Tiefling has bonuses that the Aasimar does not, which could be considered to outweigh the lack of a negative stat.

You're probably better off bringing this topic up in the rules forums just below this section. There are other discussions about race balance and such or you can start your own thread.

Overall, I'm pleased with this product. Picked it up today at the local store, which has been very supportive of Paizo products. Some of the art choices are somewhat questionable, though. For instance, I really hate the Lamia picture. But all in all, good job.
I'd like to see all of Paizo's critters (from the adventure paths, adventures, etc.) in their own bestiary.

Dang I wished I lived near that store!!!

Getting it before release that would be cool.

Yeah, I went and asked about the Bestiary at my FLGS and they said I could realistically expect to get it in three or four weeks... *sigh*

I put my order in on Monday and I'm not a subscriber, it still says pending, should I be worried? I understand that subscriber's come first I'm just wondering where that puts me in the queue.

Wouldn't worry yet. I'm a super-scriber, and apparently mine hasn't shipped yet.
