Elminster vs Raistlin! Ok this is buy far the most awesome thing ever. We discussed this topic during last weeks game.

I find the cover to be a bit subtle and classy. My idea was to have a dragon crying on the cover, but that would have been a tad blatant no ?

I hope this comes soon...

Davide Roman,

I'm one of more than twenty current students at my college who play D&D, and as far as I've found, the only one who played second edition. As such, I'm also the only one who has read second edition issues of Dragon. Seeing the Monster Hunters Association return has been a dream of mine ever since, and I am both delighted and greatly saddened to see it be in this final issue.

My gratitude to the Paizo staff for all their hard work, and I look forward to Pathfinder's arrival.

Edmond Bass,

I'm going to Gencon to sit in on the DnD seminars, and I'm bringing a bat. If I'm not satisfied with what I hear in regards to their reasoning behind killing my two favorite magazines, I'm going to start swinging!

Well, not really.

But seriously, I am going to attend the seminars in a week or so. And I'm going to let my opinion be heard!

You can purchase an awesome signed and numbered lithograph or glicee of this work from Elmore's site. It's classic Elmore, and evokes the classic D&D vision (at least from my stuck-in-1983 mind). Absolutely stunning.

Note: Editors! Thanks so very much for the cover layout of this issue--there's nothing obscuring the painting, and it's all very economical and streamlined. Awesome.

I, too, am looking forward to seeing how this article turns out. The Monster Hunters are only going to be a very small part of it, though - there was a little bit of space that could be squeezed in (550 words, as I recall), and the editors were kind enough to allocate it to a quick appearance by the Monster Hunters. I'd have loved to have had more space to do more with them, but I'm deeply grateful that they'll be there in any case.

We subscribers will get our final copy first. I can't wait but sadly, I've been reading Dragon since Issue 86 and subscribing since 129. I look at it cancellation with some sadness. No more trips to the mailbox, no more late night readings in the bathroom. I've been through the corporate shuffle when TSR died and its reigns were handed over to Paizo.

Thanks Paizo, you did a superior job. I'm going to do a good review of it's two final publications.

So Farewell Dragon and Dungeon. Hello, Pathfinder. Here's to a fresh start and a long future.

A new Larry Elmore cover painting? FANTASTIC!!!

It's quite a beautiful piece too, and it just screams End of an Era to older fans like me. Way to go out with a bang, Dragon! (and one day a triumphant return, I hope).

Haldir,

again bittersweet to see this (as I posted with Dungeon)

Dragon has been part of my life since I was 13 (34 now), so seeing this makes me think back to all the fun times I had with friends playing D&D & reading the various articles & seeing the artwork within.

Thank you Paizo for the last few years with the magazine, it's been a fun ride.

I've been looking forward to the new issue of Dragon every month for over twenty years... the cancellation of this magazine gives me one more reason to question the direction that WoTC is headed. I am definitely not pleased. Hopefully Pathfinder will be worth it; the Player's Guide appears to be decent quality and new campaign world looks promising.

Alas, poor Dragon, I hardly knew ye....

Nostalgia is eating me up right now.

I've been gaming for about 22 years, and ever since I started, Dragon has been there to offer a connection to the gaming world. I'm glad that Pathfinder will be here to fill the void, but I doubt it will have as much topical information about industry news and other fan-trivia that makes the gaming world feel like a community of common interest.

Going over the top villains, locations and adventures in Dragon and Dungeon sort of makes it feel like we're leaving it all behind, never to be seen again. Maybe it's not, but it's a staple for gaming that for the first time in my life won't be available when I need it. It's sort of like losing an old friend. I hope the community remains in whatever form the current day requires and that we don't lose anything from this incarnation to the next.

Cheers fellas.

Type_Joe_Negative,

I think having Mr. Elmore do the Cover art for the last Dragon was the only choice :) My favorite Dragon art through the years has ALWAYS been his.

Heck he has been my favorite fantasy artist since I got my Red Box so many years ago.......ahhhhh nostalgia.

Thank You Paizo for rejuvinating my favorite magazine for over 20 years.

Good Bye Dragon and thank you for all the great times.

I gotta go cry now......(snif)

Got mine last night,

Still haven't read the demonomicon fully, or the Greyhawk Items.

I'll disagree respectfully with Margaret and Cam, Elminster will take a lot of killing, and would dismember Raist, possibly in the fashion Ed suggests. (And if he didn't Alassra would, quickly, brutally, and with more power than needed.)

Besides, Iggilwiv would kill them both, and neither would see it coming

Along those lines, nice to see the Dalamar abuse in the Wizards Three. ;-)

Sage advise focused on death. It fits, and at least it's not psionics.

OotS almost made me cry. Wish we'd had a snarfquest as well, but I'll settle for the cover.

And the possible identiy of Tasha made me smile.

That was Jason's suggestion. When I sent in the questions to Andy Collins he emailed back with a "Nice subject." I'm really going to miss working with Andy. :\

Farewell, Dungeon and Dragon Magazine. And thank you, all of you at Paizo. Many heartfelt and wistful thanks for giving us one last shining moment of D&D as it was for us in our youth, as we now slip into that long, dark, night of the Wizards Digital Initiative and 4th Edition. I've seen the replacement modules and am very seriously considering subscribing as they seem to be at least one candle in the darkness.

My favorite pick from the Gen-Con this year: I got Larry Elmore to sign a copy of the last Dragon, right on the cover. I only regret that I couldn't find Erik Mona to sign it also. He was there later in the day, unfortunately I couldn't stick around.

Cheers guys, good work.

I share your pain.

I brought my copies of the last issues of Dragon and Dungeon with the intention of having everyone involved sign it, and for unknown reasons it slipped my mind to actually act on that intent till Sunday had rolled around, at which point I couldn't track anyone else down before having to make my flight home.

To be fair, there is some debate as to wether some of this stuff is WOTC, or if this is their response to pressure from Hasbro. On the 4th Edition forums at least.

Anyone else dismayed to find no giant poster in 359 (not to mention 358 still hasn't arrived)? The cover says there is one...

Just curious about how "lucky" I really am - I'm confident my email to paizo customer service will have a speedy turnaround, as they've always been great about making this sort of thing right ASAP.

Can't wait to read it, but I will anyhow (until 358 shows up and gets read).

Anyhow, hearty thanks to all the folks at Paizo who did such a great job with the mags!

It shows and has for awhile unavailable. Does this mean it is gone for good in print? just checking as it is one of the few issues I missed and was unable to pick up yet.

It means that we are more than likely out. There is always a chance that a stray issue or two could make their way into inventory as we clean our warehouse and offices and extra issues get put into inventory, but for the most part, it is gone for good.

[a moment of silence please]

Yeah I assumed that, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask to be sure. Thanks.
