Very cool! I have a few illustrations in the issue as well ...

I think this cover rocks! Full review coming soon...

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Hurray for a full review! There one review out there at Rocks Fall as well.

There's also one here that's good.

They take a good look at the breadth of the articles. Good if you're getting a feel for the magazine.

For the 4E-focused, there's this.

Definitely worth reading if you're wondering about signing up.

Apparently there's podcasters who love it as well, at Happy Jack's.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more discussion of the new Pathfinder ranger variant here, though. Worth doing those in future? Or would people rather have more Pathfinder articles like the Torture one by Hank Woon?

I know Tome of Secrets and some others have done classes, so.... Just wondering.

I already made a Ranger with no spells variant years ago.

Not Pathfinder but still.

Some comments about the Kobold Spell-Less Ranger :
I would give terrain first, then enemy afterwards.
I am a bit confused about the Nature Healing, and i'd rather give him something else, like extend his stealth attack to mobile combat, in the same idea as the Scout's skirmish.

But by all means, yes, please, more class variants.
I love these, as they provide variety.

Haha, anytime I can bring the "warm and fuzzies on" for a fellow gamer, I feel like I've done my job. ;)

I can't wait to see the Ranger class. I love a good non-spell casting ranger

I really enjoyed the ranger, so much so that I had just gotten the PDF, read through it, and noted it as one of the few 3rd party things I was going to allow in my new Council of Thieves campaign.

I just ordered a print copy mainly for the ranger variant, my first KQ purchase. The more PF material in an issue, of any type, the more likely I am to pick it up.

This is not to say that non-PF material wouldn't be interesting. Its just that I only have so many dollars to spread around on RPG stuff.

Hi!

I'm glad people are digging the Spell-less Ranger!

Hopefully you liked the remainder Seldriss :)

I kept favored enemy first so the class was closer to the Pathfinder and OGL/3.5 version. You could certainly reverse the order if you wanted.

There was actually some discussion about Nature's Healing in another thread:

link

Here is basically what I said in that thread:

"Nature's Healing is indeed intended to work primarily with Treat Deadly Wounds. I did leave it a bit vauge though, because I think it would not be out of the question for a DM to rule that it also works on long term care etc (as long as it occured within a Favored Terrain)"

I would very much be interested in what others think of the class and the animal companion / ranger tracking sheet!

Thanks!

may I ask, as I wait for my hard copy, what is so good about the Ranger class?

Indeed i did like the class, Marc.

And the few critics i made towards the healing are not an issue, take them as mere comments.
As i said, i am always happy to find variants like this one.
Keep the good work... :)

By the way, what do you mean by "animal companion/ranger tracking sheet" ?

Seldriss wrote:

I designed a kind of "character sheet" to accompany the article.

One side is a custom character sheet for your ranger's (or druid's) animal companion ... and, thanks to Pathfinder's unified animal companion rules, it also works for a paladin's mount or a Wizard's familiar.

The other side is a tracking sheet that allows a ranger to keep track of his various bonuses for each of his favored terrains and his various favored enemies.

It is included in the PDF of this issue. I think Wolfgang mentioned he might put it up on the KQ website as well for download.

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Yep, the tracking sheet is part of the PDF for the issue, but it is not printed in the paper version (because we ran out of room).

However, it will go up on the KQ.com site in a week or two. Whenever the schedule of other free content permits, basically.

Wolfgang, where's the link for subscribers to DL? I've been having issues w/Bigfoot and lost the e-mail with the link. I can't find it on the KQ page. My print copy has disappeared into the roommates room, and she really likes it.

Darn roommate, they oughta get their own copy! :)

The subscriber download is the usual one, direct from the KQ Store. Log in with your email address and password, click "My Account" at the top of the page, and you should see the subscription listed under Previous Orders. Click View and download your current issue.

Worked for me.

I woke up with a DREAM about KQ 11. Literally feeling the pages in my fingers. Must have!

On that note, I called my FLGS (Black Diamond Games in Walnut Creek, CA) and asked if they had a copy. They said something to the effect of "We asked for it, but we couldn't get it. There's not enough in the channel to support game stores carrying it.

Despite the fact that another store in my area, Endgame of Oakland, had copies of KQ 10 and I'm positive they'll have 11 too.

How much truth is there to "There's not enough in production for game stores to have copies" ?

Want want WANT!!!

Uh, we print plenty to go around to the game stores; we do not underprint demand. Your FLGS can order from IPR or Alliance and get it whenever they want, just like Endgame does.

Or you can order it here at Paizo, if they refuse to carry it.

I don't know if that's true or not, but it sounds like the sort of thing that people in stores say to fob off pain in the backside customers.

I loved what I saw of the ranger in the PDF, can't wait to get my hands on the hard copy. First 'unofficial' material that I authorized for my game outside of my houserules.

Go figure, the first mailman that actually respected the 'do not bend' on the envelope did so so much that he refused to leave the magazine for me. Now I've got to head down to the P.O. to pick it up.

I feel like my mailman bent it specifically because the envelope said not to. But it's a softcover magazine, so I don't really feel like the "do not bend" is all that necessary.

This is probably not the right thread for it, but I know Wolf is reading this one... When is the next Open Design podcast? Or am I just being impatient?

Carlos, my neighborhood mail carrier can't help himself when it comes to bending, despite the stamp. At least it's a gentle bend and not a crease.

I bet the Paizo envelopes frustrate him to no end. Poor Carlos.

Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to do another review.

Great review Lou :)

I really appreciate the positive comments about the Spell-less Ranger!

This was posted in the other KQ11 thread, but I figured it was worth a mention here as well ...

Very cool review of this issue:

Healy, the newest Open Design Podcast is available Now!

Listened to it this morning while getting ready...'joyed it.

Sorry to hear Ed sick. (Get better, Ed.) That means the next person to fall will be...

I must say, on the record, that KQ11 ROCKS!!

That said, when I flipped to the table of contents, found the page number for the Bolt & Quiver and 10' by 10' comic and then went looking for them, I was a little... nosewrinkly over the fact that the page numbers were distinctly off.

Just my 2cp.

KQ FOREVER!

Yep. It came up in my iTunes. It was a good one, too! Ed's voice was all... sultry.

Dumb question, but can anyone pass along any information about the lycanthropy for PCs article?

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

Er... It's an article about how to run a PC with lycanthropy in your game?

Not sure I'm really answering the question. :/

LOL ...

I kind of thought the same thing :)

Eric, if it helps any, I think it's a very well done article. If PC lycanthropy is something that is, or might become, a part of your game I certainly recommend the article highly!

Not sure if the print issue is still available (if it is, I would say the print issue is well worth picking up); if it is sold out, you can always pick up the PDF here through Paizo or at the KQ site.

If I'm not mistaken, I think there might also a pretty cool new Pathfinder base class in this issue as well ;)

Qadira (Contributor; Publisher, Kobold Quarterly)

And that PF article on how to torture PCs by Hank Woon is also popular, at least among the more fiendish DMs.

Alliance doesn't equally distribute their products, and I'm pretty sure that their searches for owners only go through the closest warehouse (manager of a 'chain store' here in new england couldn't order KQ 1-3, but he called a sister store across the country and they could...)
