Aside from Nightmarish and Genie, what are the bloodlines available for sorcerers? And is the Genie bloodline a "generic genie", or does it distinguish between the djinn, the efreet, the marid, and the dao/earth genie types?

The elf on the right sure looks cool casting that pink spell. He's totally out about it. Good for him!

The others are bestial, divine, feline, fiendish, lycanthropic, mixed, monstrous, and scaly.

Some of the powers are generic regardless of ancestry, some depend on which genie type the character is descended from.

(Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path Subscriber)

Any chance for a short description of the nightmarish and mixed bloodlines?

(Paizo Charter Superscriber)

In the case of Mixed bloodlines, the characters ancestors displayed a remarkable lack of prejudices. The powers given are varied and don't follow any particular theme. OTOH it doesn't actually matter what the ancestry was - it's the same progression regardless. IMO the bloodline might have been better served by allowing optional selections from other bloodlines at the lower levels instead of the fixed powers granted as written.

The Nightmarish bloodline is basically Far Realms Aberration descent with the WotC identifying marks filed off. Insanity, tentacles, Cthuloid horror. Maybe fitting for something tainted by Dagon in Golarion instead of the Far Realm.

(Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path Subscriber)

Cool, good to know. Mixed sounds pretty lame in my opinion...nightmarish more than makes up for it. Was hoping for something dealing with night terrors, but the far realm aspect will work too. *off to look up info on Dagon*

The bloodlines other than Nightmarish and Genie are:

Bestial, Divine, Feline, Fiendish, Lycanthropic, Mixed, Monstrous & Scaly

The Genie bloodline does distinguish between types of genies when it comes to one of the bloodline powers.

And there is also the Reborn Soul bloodline from our free web enhancement.

I think that element of Lovecraftian icky really adds to evil sorcerors, though I imagine it'd be brilliantly funny for a /good/ sorceror if you have a talented roleplayer.

LOL! I thought the exact same thing! We have a very non-politically correct on-going joke in our adventuring group that all sorcerers...lean that way... not that there's anything wrong with that!

Paul Ryan wrote:

Considering three of the four designers involved had to be told what "Wizards of the Coast Far Realms Aberration" meant, and all then agreed that the WotC Far Realms Aberration sounded basically like Cthulhu with the Lovecraft identifying marks filed off, I'd say that Lovecraft was the direct influence on the Nightmarish bloodline rather than anything from WotC. :)

I got my copy of this book. I would definately recommend it. The bloodlines were well thought out. I like the spells and the sample schools

I was not a fan of the art at all.

What would a sorcerer's ancestor's have to mate with to end up with the Web Enhancement Bloodline?

Heh, okay, let me rephrase that: there's a Free Web Enchancement, featuring the 'Reborn Soul' Bloodline, available on this website.

No, Justin Long is a Mac, and therefore unable to mate due to lack of hardware compatibility.

I liked your review. To me, the bloodlines, the schools and the new spells were terrific and well worth the price of the book or pdf

As I said in an earlier post, I am not a fan of the art. I was not big on the familiars especially the clockwork ones even though i love Clash of the Titans. I know some will like them. I would have preferred more details on the colleges perhaps a few more NPCs and some maps.

The information on the colleges in BoAM was intended to serve as a starting point for GMs. Adding in maps and more NPCs would have taken up more room than we had available to us in that book, and we would have had to cut out some of the bloodlines and spells, which were the main focus of the book.

We plan to release a more detailed book of magic colleges in the future, that will expand on what was in BoAM. That has always been in our long-range plan. (No, we don't have an expected release date at this time - probably late 2011 at the earliest.)

We appreciate your support!

See for me it was the other way around. I have no use for the colleges. When I do them for my games I create my own, yet I found the familiars interesting. :)

Yeah art isn't a strong point for 4 winds. While I like art, I find the text far more important. So as long as the art isn't god awful I tend to be ok with it. Granted the art is what first got me to pick up a paizo book and now i buy all their stuff, but not because of the art. It just got me to pick it up and then the text hooked me. For 4 wind they just lucked out in making things right off I was interested in enough to give them a try and now I buy all their books, so far anyways.

I was just skimming this, and I like the flavor of the book, but...

The "Kiss of Life" spell warns that the caster "must make a Fortitude save or gain one negative level." There are modifiers depending on your relationship to the castee, but the actual Fortitude save target isn't specified.

"Did your wizard survive casting the spell? Uh, roll a d20 and I'll e-mail 4 Winds to find out."

Is there an errata sheet available?

We are working on errata for all of our books right now and hope to have them ready soon.

As for the DC of the save on Kiss of Life, it would be the standard spell DC of 10 + Spell Level + CHA bonus (bard and sorcerer) or INT bonus (wizard).

I considered this, but that would mean that the better stats my caster has, the higher the DC, and the more likely the caster would suffer the negative level, which is kind of counter-intuitive; I would expect that better stats would cause the caster to do the spell better, and theoretically suffer fewer negative side-effects.

I suppose it could be argued that the better the stats, the better a life-force conduit the caster becomes, even to the extent of gaining a negative level.

I thought a more appropriate mechanic might use the number of the castee's negative hit points as the DC; if the castee had -10 HP (just barely dead), the caster would need to save for Fort DC 10 (easy). But if the castee's body were more damaged at -20 HP, the caster would risk a Fort DC 20 (not so easy).

True, but it really is only apparent if the recipient of the spell is a stranger to the caster. If the recipient is an adventuring companion or closer, then the bonuses to the save roll should outweigh the high CHA/INT stat bonus.

That's not a bad house rule for it at all. I like it. :)

The Good Humor spell and the similar ones grant a +10 compentance bonus to the appropriate Perform skill. Is it your intent to have this bonus work with Versatile Perfromance?

Doug, the Good Humor spell and the others similar to it that grant bonuses to various Perform skills would indeed work with Versatile Performance, as Versatile Performance uses the "total Perform skill bonus". The only way it would not work is if the bard in question already has a competence bonus greater than +10 to that specific Perform skill from some other source (such as a magic item).

In all seriousness, we definitely won't be doing anything with APG stuff until, well, the APG is officially out. I don't foresee us doing anything for the official Paizo witch, since we do have our own witch class in Paths of Power, but a short product exploring how to merge the two, or comparing/contrasting the two for play in the same campaign, is a possibility... *plots evil schemes*

Is this price reduction something special for this product, or are the rest of the 4Winds line going to follow?

It's just for the Book of Arcane Magic. :-) It's been out for some time and is the shortest of our books, hence the price decrease.

I hope you guys change your mind and decided to support both versions of the witch and or have some thoughts for merging aspects. The reason i say this is cause I thought both did somethings better than the other. So since we are already planning on using a mixed one in our next game, having more support for both would be a plus. :) Plus it helps you appeal to more people I think to support both, your version and the Paizo official one. But I am not a publisher, so thats just my view as a consumer.

Like Connie said, we may do something that gives ideas on how to merge the two, or how to use power/features from one with the other. We'll have to see after the final Paizo witch is out in the APG later this year.

Robert

Yeah, we're really going to have to see what abilities the final version of the APG Witch even has before we can start working on adapting them. If that fits in with our flow of products...

Lyingbastard wrote:

And that's a good point, too. We've already got products planned for later this year and into next year...
