I have had enought expanded universe, I rather prefer the Star Wars Rpg remain focused on the films, much like the WEG 1st edition (or even the 2nd until the appereance of the novels sourcebooks).
I know that any additon made by the Rpg are considered EU, but I can not shake the feeling that the old WEG supplementes had a more film-like spirit.
If the direction of the line does not change (and I´m sure it won´t) I think it´s time to move back to the WEG edition or forward to other games.

I just think they're trying to cover all bases. To the point, I wouldn't know squat about the EU if it were not for SWSE at all, because I just watch the movies and TV shows. It's realy easy for me to incorporate whatever I want from these books to fit into the movie eras without too much trouble.

Personally I am glad this book came out as it gives players of Jedi more options for their character no matter what era you play in. After all, some of us may not want to play in the era depicted in the films.

I hate to point this out, but WEG was obviously more focused on the films. d6 Star Wars had already been around a while before Zahn wrote Heir to the Empire. The only non-movie sources that WEG had to draw from were the Marvel comics, the Ewoks and Droids cartoons, the Ewok TV movies, the Han Solo and Lando Calrissian Novels, and Splinter in the Mind's Eye.

Trust me, I feel your pain when it comes to the EU, mainly as it relates to Luke and company still constantly being written about, and the galaxy around them still constantly being in flux. Apparently Palpatine and Vader were right about the Empire being needed to bring Order to the galaxy, because Coruscant falls every other week in Luke's post ROTJ era. And don't get me started on the whole "hey, wait, there is no Dark Side of the Force" tangent that the NJO books went on for a while (note: I'm not arguing that there has to be black and white clear cut good and evil in everything, I'm saying that Star Wars was never, ever, predicated upon "shades of grey." More than anything else, its a violation of style and tone for the setting).

On the other hand, the Old Republic/Tales of the Jedi stories were great, and having just reread them recently, I can say that they "feel" very much a part of the same saga as the movies. Perhaps not for everyone, but definitely for me.

Heck, if it wasn't for the EU, we wouldn't have the name Coruscant.

Anyway, I can appreciate your taste, and if you really don't want much EU mixed into your Star Wars, maybe this book isn't for you, but at the same time, I don't think that its intrinsically a bad book, or even one that directly invalidates the "feel" of the original movies. While there may be a few powers that go over the top, its easy enough to ignore those.

As far as useful information, I'd have to say that even in a campaign keeping to the "classic" sources, the rules for Force Guardian Spirits, Padawan training, and the lightsaber form powers, as well as many of the Force Regimens, feel pretty standard Star Wars.

Finally, while its totally up to you, you may want to at least give the Rebellion Era Campaign Guide a look when it comes out, since its primarily dealing with an era that was first and foremost the territory of the original trilogy.

Although I generally despise the EU, I recognize that it has made some very good additions to the Star Wars universe in the form of the KOTOR and Legacy series (wich I love), and the campaing sourcebooks, covering those eras present complete information for players and gamemasters who don´t want to play in the films timeframe.

The problem to me comes when use with all eras supplements, or core supplements if you like, gravitate more towards the EU than to the films as is the case of the JATM, and most of the releases since 2002.

When I bought the Legacy Era Campaing Guide I knew it was 100% EU, I even get along with TCWCG having EU content, and I´m sure the RECG will have a lot of EU material (like it´s 2001 predecesor). My complain is that we don´t have a sole free EU book with 100% film content. This could be easily fixed with the release of a pair of Movie Trilogy Sourcebooks (prequel and classic) in the likeness of the 1993 release by WEG. After buying almost 30 Star Wars d20 books, am I asking too much?.

Um... Yes. Consider the material in the prequels and the primary movies. Then consider the plethora of material in the EU. If each book in the Eu is considered a total movie, there's just so much more you can mine in the EU for new and original RPG content, rather than just rehashing in a book no one would buy.

I myself dislike the EU, and run an alternate history version in my games. Luke died when Palpatine did, Palpatine didn't build superweapons just used "normal" biological and chemical weapons in a style that harkens back to logical economics. And in my games, people don't spontaneously forget the Jedi and what they really were as soon as Palpatine took power.

Regardless of my tangeant there, how many among us would buy a book that is simply a total reprint of stuff done to death already? PDF: sure! But WotC seem to have a problem when it comes to anything electronic.
