Great job on that one and the other in the flick set. (Love the goblins!)

Thanks Fray. The other four goblins are waiting impatiently for me to finish them, and have let me know that if another weekend goes by in which giants and genies supersede them there's going to be fiery Hell to pay.

I thought lead-based minis went the way of the dodo bird because they were hazardous. Was I wrong?

Years ago, New York State filed suit against several companies, alleging that lead in miniatures was responsible for cases of lead poisoning. The suit was eventually dropped, as the state wasn't able to prove that the children had chomped down on lead figures, while the defendants produced evidence of other lead sources in the kids' environment (Particularly lead-based paint on apartment walls).

The state also passed a law forbidding lead in various products, including miniatures. Manufacturers feared that other states would follow suit. Afterward, an exception for miniatures was made in the New York law, but most manufacturers had already switched to lead-free alloys.

In 2007, Federal law prohibited import of toys containing lead.

Recent dramatic price increases then drove manufacturers' costs up, prompting their return to the cheaper lead-badsed alloys. Manufacturers cited the facts that their products are not meant for small children's play, no cases have been proven where miniatures were definitely the primary source of lead toxicity, and they are ordinarily painted (which generally seals them against lead oxides getting on the hands).
