Got it! Should have my softcover next week.
What is the best way to point out typos, etc? My eye catches these things on their own and I'd like to help the editing process for the final edition.
eg. p79 Natural Spell benefit should read Cast, not Case
Yes I'm weird, but I'm willing to let my weirdness serve some good. Especially since I'll be devouring the Beta over the next days.

Jason says here that they'll basically be going through the book by chapters.
So, make a list and be sure to mention it when that chapter is being looked at.

The Web Enhancement PDF doesn't appear to mention that it is legal to have it printed by a 3rd party.
My local Staples won't let me print it without authorization. If you ever release another Web Enhancement, please specify that we are allowed to print it :)

I was eagerly awaiting this... and now I am annoyed. Not at the content mind you but the manner in which it is delivered. Couldn't the effort have been made to have a combined document like the previous Alpha's as opposed to having this split up into chapters?
Or maybe even provide the choice to the person downloading it?
Since they are protected PDFs, I can't really do this for myself either. However since I see myself 'flipping' through the document, opening up 18 separate PDFs is a bit of a pain for that convenience.
Other than that, I say good job!

You should have both a one big PDF file download and a split PDF per Chapter download available to you.

It disappeared from my list of preorders yesterday, but did not show up as an order yet. Neither did the pdf, even though I just ordered it once again separately just now - normally, downloads show up immediately afterwards ordering. Any idea what is happening there?
EDIT: D'oh! I just did not see that the Alpha Release pdf was replaced by the Beta already...

Today's blog states that they are just about sold out of Beta at Gencon. I wonder how many copies they took with them? I'm looking forward to seeing the numbers sold and numbers downloaded.

I must have either missed it but I could have sworn I didn't initially have that single file option. I'm glad it was there (or finally saw it) when I went back today though... It will make my reading a lot easier!

I've been looking through the Alpha/Beta release and generally like what I see.
I noticed that it still says "We’ve had a great deal of debate about starting hit points, and have yet to come to a satisfying conclusion." My comment to this is why not use the vitality and wound points system, at least as an option? I found out about it while looking for alternatives to HP. And wouldn't you know it that the d20 community seemed to like this system that was developed for the Star Wars d20 RPG. I've played my last 3 sessions using it and like it a lot. Lower levels are a bit tougher and it makes the critical all that more .. critical.
Can't wait for the final release.

I like the Vitality/Wound Pont system too. BUT I think that having critical inflict damage to Wound points was too extreme. We opted for Crit = Double damage on Vitality Points instead (or standard damage if it inflicts any Wound damage at all).
Another point that I have against the 3e system is variable BAB for multiple attacks. This has somehow been fixed in Star Wars Saga (i.e. gain a second and third attack through a couple of feats; the penalties for multiple attacks are a bit too steep though).

Well, I spent the last few days reading the downloaded Beta version and enjoyed what I read. Most of the revisions were received well (I don't like concentration skill merging into spellcraft but that is a minor point). I really like the negative level revision.
In order to further my support of Paizo, I just placed my print order. Thanks for the outstanding product.

Hey let me know when the pathfinder quest go's to this and I'll stop my subscription. It is just like 4.0 wotc put out. All to high powered PC's and no real content to work with. I've been DM'ing for years now and make up most of my own stuff, I just enjoy reading and borrowing ideas from the pathfinder books. So now all my quest I've made wouldn't work and would take forever to convert. I mean for real having a PC with a 8 score starting out made it so that atleast they had 1 ability that they wernt good at, thus making them rely on the party or amke a situation more difficult to get through. kind of force the party to role play instead of number crunch. But hey what ever it's wotc 4.0 with a diffrent wrapping. I don't know about anyone else but I have every 3.5 book made and not ready to give them up yet

Downloaded the beta, and while I like what I see so far, I do have a question about the layout of the spells...
The way that the spells are laid out, I find it very hard to pick out where each spell ends or the next one begins. This may very well be to my aging eyes, but I find that the bold spell name is not enough to make the spells stand out from each other. It is with effort that I can locate the individual spells, and I find that this is a bit annoying. Not a deal breaker by any means, but seeing that spells take up a major portion of the book, that annoyance could turn into a real pain over time.
My question is as follows...
Are there any plans to change the layout? Something like a larger type? Underlined name? Larger space between spells? Anything?

At the top of the page will be a link call "My Downloads". Click on that link and it will take you to a page with all of your downloadable content from Paizo. All you need to do is personalize the file and then download it.

1. Create an account.
2. Click on add pdf to cart.
3. Follow the process like you're buying something.
4. You'll find the document in your downloads.
Try it. Return here if you still have questions.

Quick question: I just got my copy of this and the cover paper seems to be much lighter and flimsier than that on the Pathfinder APs and Chronicles, and on such a long book it's kind of annoying. Don't get me wrong... I love the contents, but I'm just wondering if this new cover quality is just for this (probably since it is only supposed to last a year and to keep costs down on the Beta) or if all Pathfinder books will be switching to it.
Thanks!

We used a different printer to print the Beta. The rest of our books are still going through our regular printer so won't be affected. The final RPG hardcover will more than likely also go through our regular printer.

Hi Guys,
I am new member to the society and have read the guide to the society and part of the beta test book.
First, I love what you have done with the classes in the beta.
Question: In the society guide it mentions that there is a 20 point system used for character generation. The old 3.5 system is somewhat broken and you have compensated with the new class description in beta but 3.5 version is still weak on character classes and you have lowered the points allowed for char. gen. What compensates for the weaker stats in the Society char. gen?

I believe it's two a month, except for convention months (June and August), where it's 4 a month.
Also, the Beta rules are not used in Org Play.

Shifter, welcome to the boards!
You'll get better results with mechanical questions over in the Pathfinder RPG forums and with Pathfinder Society questions in the Pathfinder Society forum. (Though the answer to your question is that most months, we plan to release two scenarios, as Lilith noted.)

Where do I post questions on the beta?
For example even though the wizard in the 2nd adventure path has a limited list of spells what spells would be listed ina 1st level wizard's spellbook.
In 3.5 it would be any 0th level spell they can cast barring forbidden schools and a limited number of 1st level spells.
Can't find any info on this in the beta and was wondering what the ruling on this is?

Point Buy in 3.5 starts at 8. In PFBeta, Point Buy starts at 10. You CAN have Ability scores lower than 10, however. These scores are valued at a negative cost. So, in a 20 Point Buy, if you lower all your 10's to 8's, buying back those points... guess what? You now have 32 points to spend on Abilities. Conclusion: PFBeta's 20 Point Buy = 3.5's 32 Point Buy.

Because it's a low-profit-margin item for us, we're not selling it in significant quantities to the book trade (including Amazon), though we sent them some to cover preorders.
We are selling it through the hobby channel (that is, game stores) worldwide, though; I'd expect European distributors should have it by now.
