Yet another reason for me not to buy 4th ed products. Bring back the great ring..I look forward to Paizos take on the planes.

I actually like this book. The info on the planes works well. There are aspects of the direction they've chosen to take things that I don't care for, but on the whole I like what they have done with the new planes and new organization of things. I would give this book a solid 4.5 out of 5.

I have the Last Manual of the Planes. Aside from a setting update, is there any reason to get this one?

Holy threadcromancy Batman!

Inspiration for your Pathfinder game.

Well this book is the 4E manual of the planes. It is in 4E rules, and uses their new cosmology. No great wheel anymore.

I think the only planes are the Feywild, Elemental Chaos, Shadowfell, and the Astral Sea.

The Elemental Chaos is where you'll find all the elementals, devils, demons, etc. Archons, efreets, genasi, githzerai, primordials, titans, and slaad are all here.

Feywild is where the fey are from, and lots of crazy nature stuff. Eladrins, firbolgs, fomorians, and gnomes are all from here.

The shadowfell is full of undead, shadows, and other nasty creatures. Nightwalkers, death giants and shadar-kai live here.

And the astral sea is very much what it was back in 2E/3E. Githyanki and maruts run around here.

Sorry, I didn't read the year on the last post. I thought it was made "this" December 21st (Has 4Ed, really been out that long already?).

I am ashamed.

While the book it based on the 4th edition cosmology, I have to say that I enjoyed the information on the Feywild and the various factions of that region. Probably my favorite part of the book, and I don't run 4E games. I'm not going to say everyone should run out and get the book, but if you get the chance to leaf through it, give it a shot, as there may be some stuff within that might inspire you regardless of edition.

I agree. The planar structure was one of the things I really liked about 4e. It can be very easy to use this set-up no matter what edition you play. Despite the fact I play Pathfinder this book has provided a ton of inspiration for my game. As a result, I am considering picking up the Elemental Chaos book.

I have a soft spot for the Great Wheel, but the World Axis was a pretty good development I think.
