Two of the reviews for this product said that there was a noticable power creep in this book.
Did anyone else notice that? Could you give an example?
Does anyone think that power creep would be a problem, this early in 4th Edition's lifespan?
From what I read, it's not that it's power creep, so much "this is the bar we want to set it at." Considering how much of this stuff is usable by all classes, and that the so-called "power creepy" items span items that are usable by each class, you can't really call it power creep if it's balanced that way, can you.
Don't get me wrong though: there might be a half-dozen items that seem like must-haves, but again, it's not like these are all stacked in one area (i.e. it's not like all of them are fighter weapons, or wizard implements, or something).
And don't forget: every book gets errata'ed nowadays.
Overall: I'd say it's a really great first sourcebook.
I haven't looked too closely at it yet, but there a couple of cheesy non magical weapons that are little out of whack- executioner's axe, full blade (Basically stuff out of the 3E arms and equipment guide that I hated). I haven't looked too much at the magic items yet. Some of them seem really high level for what they are. For instance, the ring of feather falling is a LV 14 item. In 3E it was a low level item.

Items tend to be higher levels in 4e, much like rituals.
So do they include mundane items such as different types of armour and weapons?
Its just that for example the KOK Gear book had literally loads of mundane stuff from armour, weapons to even food and so on.
Does this add to the mundane stuff I guess I'm asking?
I haven't gotten a chance to see the book, but there have been excerpts and mentions of nonmagical items, including armor and weapons (not sure about food, though), and even vehicles.
New mundane weapons? Yup, including 2 new weapon qualities, brutal and defensive.
New masterwork armor? Yup, but no new regular armor, you're still stuck with cloth, leather, hide, chain or plate for now. I believe they have 3-4 new masterwork armor types for each armor category.
Alchemical items are in there too, as well as the feat required to make them. Alchemist's fire (acid, frost, etc.), tanglefoot bags, as well as many many others.
New exotic mounts, with stat blocks for them to be run as monsters.
And of course loads of new magic items.
I was kinda disappointed with 4E's initial PHB after reading it, but now that I have this too, things are finally beginning to fill out and I can convert a lot more Paizo adventures now with this stuff!
This book has a very wide variety of really cool, interesting items. You can pretty much open the book to any random page and find something you want for your PC. But after reading all the magic armor and the magic weapons, there's nothing that jumps out as the "must-have" choice - and our gaming group is still choosing many items from the Player Handbook, not just choosing from these new options, for their wishlists. So, my vote is "No" to power-creep.
