Does that mean y'all are going 4th edition?
That is an excellent question. I know the answer depends on a lot of various kinds of things, but there was some mention elsewhere of an answer possibly as early as this week. I think they're waiting on the GSL to make the final decision; as far as I know they haven't seen it yet so they (and we) don't know for sure.
Nope, it doesn't. Trust me, you'll know when we decide, it's not going to sneak out somewhere (becuase no one here knows to leak the info). This set is going to be exactly as 4E compatible as the Dragon's Trove or Hero's Hoard sets were. Or as GURPs or Nobilis compatible as those past sets were for that matter.

Well, it could also mean that Paizo is heging their bets and putting out items that would work for both. Or making items that are made for 4.x and then some that are made for 3.x.

So... You ARE switching to 4th edition (GURPS). :o
So far the item cards in these sets have been pictures and descriptions only. Which means they can be used for any edition of D&D or any fantasy game for that matter. What the item does is up to your GM.
For what it's worth, I would like to see more 4e-compatible item card decks. Yes, the older item cards are compatible (and I use them!) but item categories have changed enough that it would be nice to have a more 4e-friendly distribution of item slot categories in the decks (including two entirely new categories).
I am also curious to see how Paizo will be categorizing the New Beginnings cards - sticking with the old 3.5 scheme, or going with new icons and colored borders for the new 4e categories?

I just downloaded the full Alpha of the Pathfinder RPG, 4E is for pussies. This will no doubt be very good. I have yet to see a bad card in this series and when this finally comes out, I'll be buying plastic card sheathes for this one too. My only complaint for Heroes Hoard and Relics of War was that I couldn't just get a full set of either. I don't need foil cards just full sets. These cards have been great for any fantasy campaign as I, GM/DM decide what the items do if anything. I have a separate book where I keep track of what abilities each card has because I don't want to spoil the artwork on the card itself. And I expect this set to be no different than any of the others that came before it.

This is a good question. It's clearly said in the description, that this deck aims at 4E. So, where's the difference then? Will there be new categories? Will these look any different in design from the previous decks? And, the big question, can I use all of these cards for 3.5/PFRPG?

I believe it is still our intent to make these cards useful for every edition of every fantasy RPG. So even though these cards might have some emphasis placed on items that 4e players might find useful, there's nothing in those items to make them not useful for 3e (or FWHRPG or GURPS Fantasy or whatever) players.

It has recently become clear that, given the unexpectedly late start necessitated by the product concept, it is no longer possible for us to finish the set on the original schedule, and delaying it would introduce conflicts with schedules for other sets. Thus, this product has been indefinitely postponed.
Basically, when we put this on the schedule in February, we were expecting to see the 4E equipment lists "any day now." In fact, we only got them last week, when 4E was officially released. So we haven't made a card list or commissioned the art yet, and our artist is now working on the Second Darkness deck. Since that deck needs to come out during the Second Darkness AP, we can't just slide everything back.
It's possible that New Beginnings might wind up on the 2009 product schedule, but it's also possible that it won't—we're making those sorts of decisions in the next few weeks. So, for now, it's indefinitely postponed.
Aaww. I was so looking forward to this set. Ever since I began planning my next campaign, set to start in about a week, I've been collecting as many Item Cards as possible. I even purchased a bunch of Hero's Hoard and Relics of War singles on ebay before the Essentials deck was announced.
I was hoping I'd have a card for every magic item I intend to give out during this campaign. It breaks my heart to know that I won't have access to Orbs, and perhaps other vital items, any time soon if ever. :(
Fenrys is furry-friendly, so it may have been a compliment.
Not really, I'm sticking with Pathfinder RPG and the OGL for the time being. I am teetering between what Paizo is doing right now and what Green Ronin has already done. I like what I see somewhat for 3.75 Ed and True 20 as well as Mutants and Masterminds. 4E is not the kind of game I run. I have a host of ideas for furry D&D using the Pathfinder system as a base. If that means that to the ignorant sheep this wolf is not playing D&D so be it.
