Paizo is definitely the ultimate "by gamers for gamers" company. Paizo actually listens and delivers the products their customers ask for. I can think of a few "inc's" that could learn a lot from this example. I can't wait to get a copy.
I was wondering if all the races use the same gods, or is there the usual selection of gods for non-humans and these gods are directed towards humans?
I can't find it on the blog right now, my search-fu is weak today, but I did copy it when it was posted and here's the long and short of what Dr. Jacobs said about the other races and gods:
Spoiler:
Here's the way I see the "favored" deities of the core races working out.
ELVES
Desna, Calistria, Nethys
DWARVES
Torag, Abadar, Irori
GNOMES
Shelyn, Nethys, Gozreh
HALFLINGS
Desna, Erastil, Pharasma
HALF ELVES
Cayden Cailean, Calistria, Sarenrae
HALF ORCS
Gorum, Rovagug, Torag
TIEFLINGS
Calistria, Lamashtu, Asmodeus
AASIMAR
Iomedae, Sarenrae, Shelyn
GOBLINS
Lamashtu, that old stump that looks sort of like a monster face, their current chieftain
Of coruse, there are also certainly lots of minor gods (some of whom, like Minderhal and Droskar, we've mentioned—some of whom, like Cyth-V'sug and Zyphus we have not) who are far more specialized and worshiped only by certain types of people. We'll get to those when we get to them, though.
I just wish it was coming out next week, not October, geez!!! Why do far away?

Will the articles on Desna, Lamashthu, and any others that arise between now and the printing of Gods and Magic be rehashed?

If this is the book I think it is, then yes, I'm writing it.
I hope it's as good as your Greyhawk write-ups in Dragon. Although I'm sad that Julia Martin and Eric Boyd isn't writing it. I really love Faiths and Avatars ala 2nd edition.
Either that, or something like the FR worldbook, where they had illustrations of the clerics in their typical dress...though avatars would be much cooler, and more worthy of something written by SKR.
I'd love to see clerical vestments and things like that in a "god" book. The number of times you run into a cleric of a given god as compared to an avatar or aspect would seem to indicate that knowing more about the clergy would be better than knowing more about the god, per se.
That having been said, yeah, pictures of the gods, at least how the clergy most commonly conceptualizes them, would be cool.
Paizo is away at the Origins game convention, but I imagine, given how the Beliefs articles are worked up, we are likely to get depictions of gods. I know I would certainly like clerical representations myself as well.
Hi everyone! This thread slipped a little under my radar there for a bit... sorry about that!
ANYway... yes. We'll have illustrations of all 20 of our core deities in this book. Each of these 20 deities will have a 2 page entry, similar in style to the new monsters we've done in the Pathfinder Bestiary. The main difference is, of course, that the gods don't have huge stat blocks; their "stat blocks" will be relatively short and contain info like domains, areas of concern, favored weapons, holy days, etc. The rest is gonna be flavor and crunch; I believe we're going to aim to have a new spell for each deity for clerics, for example. Then, in the later third of the book, we'll have lots of symbols and other illustrations relating to various lesser faiths and magic spells and items tied to the world's religions.
But the cornerstone of the book will indeed be those 20 full-body illustrations of the core 20 deities. Some of them have already started coming in and they look neat!
Representations of clerics of the gods will continue to appear in Pathfinder's Adventure Paths and other products, but this book is as much about the gods themselves as their worshipers. (And of course, in most cases... how the god dresses more or less translates into how the faithful dress. Except in cases like Rovagug, who's a big spider tentacle mouth monster who doesn't wear clothes at all...)

So... It will be what Deities and Demigods should have been instead of a book filled with the stats of really high level NPCs... Great! ;-)

ALL HAIL ROVAGUG!
I hope there's some discussion of non-evil worshippers of evil gods, what with the 3.x "one-step" rule.

Will it be similar in format to the entries in "Rise of the Runelords" and "Crimson Throne". Specifically; will it include "allies of../summon monster" tables and planar ally info?
(I ask because our cleric is looking for a pet and we want to know which animal his diety (Sarenrae) would approve of.)
Yes, the cover art for this book is the best of all I have seen for Pathfinder so far. More art like this! All the other art is good too, but there is something about this cover that beats all the rest easily.

why not both? images of the gods' Avatars AND on how their clerics dress!!! we clerics need some ideas to make it better :D
