While I like and appreciate Starships of the Galaxy, this new book, Threats of the Galaxy, should have been first - immediately after Star Wars Saga. I and my group of Star Wars Saga players have been waiting for something like Threats of the Galaxy for a long while. There have been a few times during Dawn of Defiance that a "creature book" would've been handy for some unscripted action. So, I am really glad to see Threats of the Galaxy finally come out.

Threats of the Galaxy sounds good. Neither of the other Saga books have disappointed, so I think we can count on it to be a great sourcebook. Can't wait till mine arrives!

Howdy! Quick question... I bought the SWRPG when Wizards first released it, and havent looked at it in years. People rave about the Saga edition, and make mention of how it should be a template for other games, etc. What gives? Is it a fresh take on D20? Thanks!

It's a streamlined version of d20. It actually incorporates a lot of what D&D 4E is going to be like. While I'm not thrilled of the 4E stuff for D&D, this new Saga edition has easily been the best my group has played. It captures the feel very easily and plays fast.

At the very least, it feels almost like a game without a lot of extra 'baggage' to it, if that makes sense!

Makes perfect sense, thanks!

Anyone remember the 2nd edition of the Star Wars rpg from West End Games?
THE Star Wars rpg in my opinion...

I sure do stroVal! We played it for years. We really enjoyed the openness and free-form way of letting the DM have so much say in who does what and how. The first d20 version was fun, but it felt way to heavy and 'filling' for a wild-and-wahoo game like Star Wars.

The Saga Edition seems to be an excellent balance between the two. Plenty of free-form playing and ease of judging, but structured enough to prevent too much weirdness in powers.

I haven't tried the Saga version yet..Everybody keeps saying it's good.I was content with some of the supplements ; but to tell you the truth I don't like the battle system(a common problem in dnd 3.5 imo though)and especially the character statistics(Vader is a weakling according to that!)in the earlier d20 versions.

If you don't care for 3.5 combat, while you will find Saga Edition more strreamlined and easier, it's still based off of that and so runs fairly similar.

I'm not sure about the Vader stats, I never compared them as I don't use the iconic figures in my games usually! I can say the new game's handling of the force is heads and tales more elegant than before.

I love this book. It is precisely what my group has been waiting for. As a teacher I don't have a lot of time to put together stats for the generic NPCs my party might run into so having a book full of them is great. One thing I wish they had though was rules for making a Danthomir Rancor character. That would be fun.
