Kobold Quarterly is the scrappy little magazine of Open Design, a tiny journal that covers the world's premiere roleplaying game from the gamer's perspective.

The second issue includes articles by Ed Greenwood, Nicolas Logue, Skip Williams, Wolfgang Baur, and Jeff Grubb, among others. It features full-color art by fantasy artists new and familiar.

Kobold Quarterly gives you player options, the finest design techniques, great interviews, cartoons, and tested tactical crunch.

  • The Ecology of the Barghest
  • An Assassin core class
  • A preview of Empire of the Ghouls
  • An interview with artist Wayne Reynolds
  • Alternate class abilities for Paladins
  • And more!

Thanks! And sorry for the slow reply --- I've been shipping magazines. :)

I hope to keep improving with each issue. If there's a particular article or topic you want covered, letters to the kobold mines are always welcome.

I'm enjoying the 2nd issue (I haven't finished reading it yet). I have to say I really enjoyed the interviews in 1 (Erik) and 2 (Wayne). I can't wait to receive my print copy of 2 (I just had to subscribe after downloading the PDF of 1). I just wish I could get my hands on a print copy of issue 1.

I absolutely cannot wait to get the OK from my accountant (wife) to purchase this. Anybody got anything to say about it? What did you like? What didn't you like? How were the advertisement layouts? I had some comments on that I provided Wolf with and I'm curious to see if he went with the vertical strip to the side of the page or a different variation.

If you have any opinion at all, please help Wolfgang out by writing a review. :)

I just received my 2nd issue (printed) of Kobold Quarterly, and I am very happy with the content and quality of the publication. This magazine takes me back to the old days of The Dragon.

And Ecology of the Barghest by Nicolas Logue, a Prince of Laziness by Tim and Eileen Connors (I loved Siege of the Spider Eaters), a cool version of The Assassin class, and Paladin Alternate Class Abilities (I'll use these for my son's character in our Savage Tide adventure) are just some of the wonderful stuff in KQ 2.

I can't believe I took so long to get off my ass and get this, but this was great. I've been hitting all of my usual haunts and praising Kobold Quarterly because I absolutely loved this issue. My only regret is that I didn't get going sooner and get a physical copy of #1.

My favorite article was the Belphegor, demon prince of laziness and invention. However, all of it from the Ed Greenwood article to the Ecology of the Barghest and the cartoons now moved over from Dragon and Dungeon were all good!

Great work all around, but the Ecology of the Barghest is easily my favorite, doing a masterful job of covering one of the few types of fiends that hasn't already been the subject of half a dozen game books. I'd recommend it for that article alone!

Hi everyone,

Sorry to resurrect this, but it seemed like a good place to post this.

I just came into possession of an extra copy or two of Kobold Quarterly issue #2. I actually can't believe I found them - this issue is long out of print and really hard to find! Of course, I am keeping one (like many fans of KQ magazine, issue #2 was the only issue I didn't have but could never seem to locate) but I'm offering at least one of the other two copies I now have for sale.

If you are like I was and have been searching everywhere for Kobold Quarterly #2, but could never find it ... here is your chance.

Please feel free to take a look:

Hi everyone.

Just wanted to let those who are interested know this auction is ending this weekend.

Thanks!

Hi all,

This auction for the print issue of Kobold Quarterly #2 went very well - I was amazed at how many people were interested! Thanks so everyone that looked and bid!

In fact, because so many people were interested, I have decided to put up my last extra copy of issue #2 up at the same price. After this one goes, the only copy I will have left will be my own copy (and that one is never getting sold!)

So, if you checked out or even bid on the last auction but did not win, please feel free to check this one out:
