Hey, is the large green dragon actually large (2x2 squares)?

No. Yes, technically, but it's not as big as you're probably hoping. It's the same size as the Fang Dragon. It's head is a little funky, but overall, these are some good-quality minis (for plastic, pre-painted). Worth the cost.
I picked mine up the other day at FLGS and was a bit disappointed. The quality and detail of the minis themselves is less than previous editions and the new rules are, well, too 4e for my taste. I want my old alignments back!!

So it's definitely bigger than my Young Black Dragon?
I may have over looked it but was there any reason given for the cut down in number of miniatures given for the new starter? Or is this more or less just a rules update?
Boy, if these are anything like the new random minis - ick. The quality of those minis is sorely lacking.
That said, I was at my FLGS the other day and saw some non-random Rackham minis. Awesome. But $40? Ick. Any hope that the price will drop for those?

The price point dropped by 5 bucks, so I think that's part of the reason for fewer figures. Also, always including a dragon is a fairly good deal by D&D Mini standards, dragons are normally hard to get.

Maps: very nice, I like the double sided format, and the maps are very pretty.
Die: Seems weirdly lightweight, like it were hollow. Just feels strange.
Stat Cards: I don't like that the starter set cards do not come with a D&D 4.0 stat side, rather with tactical advice. It may be useful for a first time player, so I can understand it, but it will quickly become a useless side of the card. Other than that, I don't much care for the new color scheme either, but the cards are formatted nicely to let you know everything you need to know about the skirmish figure pretty quickly and easily.
Rulebook: Line of sight (page 25) just has a picture and no text to tell you how it was determined. Other than that, the rules are concise and clear.
Minis: Pretty typical/average for D&D minis. Decent sculpts, ok paint jobs; could use some touch ups if you want them to really stand out. Except: I hate the Green Dragon. Chop off its lousy deal-breaking head and I might be able to deal with it, but even so, it's no Dragon by my daughter's dragonomicon description, and that's all that matters to me :P
WotC is planning on re-producing some of the "best of..." DDM1/3e mini's for a DDM2/4e fit, but since I'm not going that way, and I like buying new mini's for my game I'm wondering if anybody is considering converting these DDM2/4e mini's to a 3/5/OGL RPG standard and a DDM1. I'm not even sure that it's possible to convert the DDM2 to DDM1, but I'm wondering if someone is thinking about doing it. I'd like to but I don't know the mechanics of DDM1 well enough to be able to do so.
I'd like to help however.

I wonder what you expected? these combat rules are almost exactly how 4e combat will work...
I think the paint and body job are good; the nose looks really dumb though. I plan on clipping the horn on the nose off and doing a touch up paint job on him. XP
i picked this up at my local gaming store this past weekend. while i personally could care less about the 4e-lite rules booklet, 5 painted minis (including a large-size dragon) + 5 battle maps (one of the sheet is actually two smaller locations) that cover a wide variety of locations = great deal for the money.
