I got to play through this adventure with Paizo's own Phil Lacefield this past weekend at The Great Canadian Baycon convention! I had a blast! Its a fun low level romp with lots of challenges and some great plot hooks. I would recommend it to friends who were interested in it for sure. I got to look through the module afterwards it was full of colourful maps and portraits. Reminded me very much of DUNGEON magazine's layouts.

Anyhow I had a blast and Phil sold us on the module line. These will be worth picking up!

Awesome.

Hey there Jeremy! Glad you had fun with it, as well as my rather free-form DM style :-) This one's gonna be huge - just watch out for that mysterious staircase!

Will Hollow's Last Hope include pregenerated characters?

Due to its small size, this one does not include pregens. We wanted to make sure to give you as much adventure as possible in the limited space that we had.

Will this version be different than the version that's available at Free RPG day? I'd like to snag it when I go but if this one will be different/ have more goodies I'll pick it up too!

It's the same.

Is this Module set in Varisia? I see a Falcon River near the Mindspin Mountains is that where this would be or did you just leave it for the DM to decide.

Hi Dreamweaver,

For having asked that somewhere else, I know the answer to this one. ;-)

No, it is not set in Varisia. It is set in an entirely different part of the world.

I am not sure where exactly, but D0, D1 and E1 (all set in the same region of Paizo's new world - for which we don't have a name yet) will contain a couple of pages about the immediate surroundings and the local specificities.

PS: Of the GameMastery modules, only D2 (Seven Swords of Sin) and W1 (The Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale) seem to be set in Varisia.

Cool thanks, can't wait to see the rest of the world outside Varisia.

So let me get this straight. D0 (Hollow's Last Hope) doesn't have any Pregenerated characters, but D1 (Crown of the Kobold King) does. Still, D0 can be run as a prelude to D1...

Furthermore, D1 will have the same pregenerated characters as volume 1 of Pathfinder, but Falcon's Hollow will, according to Nicolas Logue, be very far away from Varisia...

While I doubt I will be using pregenerated characters for my campaign anyway (even though they are ridiculously good looking (zoolander quote)), I still find this rather weird... If, however, I would want to run through D0-D1 with pregenerated characters, I'd have to wait for D1, change the pregenerated characters to lvl 1, then run them through D0-D1. If I'd then want my players to be able to use the same characters in Burnt offerings, I'd have to "beam them away" to Varasia.

I know there is no link between D1 and Burnt offerings, but why did you decide to use the same pregenerated characters? Is it simply because these iconics are fun to draw (and are really really ridiculously good looking)?

Like a lot of people, I can't wait to get my hands on the first issue of Pathfinder. That is why I will probably buy D0 and D1 too! That is also why I'm considering if my players can use the same characters in D0-D1 and Burnt offerings.

Would it perhaps be possible to have D1's pregenerated characters available for download for use in D0 (lvl 1 version)?

Okay. Just so I'm clear. It's currently for sale as a hard copy now for $5. At the Free RPG Game Day, it'll be free (on a limited basis), but after the Free RPG Game Day, it'll also be free as a .pdf on the Paizo website for anyone and everyone who's interested?

If so, if I order a copy now, do I also get early access to the .pdf, too?

It is currently for sale as a hard copy for $5. Those copies will not ship until after Free RPG Day, where you can get it for free as a hard copy. The PDF will be available to everyone after June 23rd as well, whether or not you order it through us. Everyone will get it at the same time.

It would have been nice to have some available for download, that way you don't incur any additional printing costs.

I intend to run it during Free RPG Day and will probably use some WotC pre-gens from one of the Game Days.

I hate making up characters and don't want to waste time having players roll theirs up when they get there.

I will be running 4 games total that day and anything that is less work for me is appreciated!! Some of the other GMs were complaining that most of the offerings had no pre-gens or character sheets (needed for non d20 games).

Hollow's Last Hope was very slick looking with great maps!

Thanks!!

Rochelle

While the idea of disliking making characters is unthinkable to me, ;)

I felt I should point you this way if you were looking for a great source of pregenerated characters (and critters).

On the site you can also request a concept/NPC/critter and one of the lovely members, all fellow Paizo message boarders as far as I can tell, will likely whip one up for you.

Enjoy!

Hey there all,

I plan on posting up 1st level pregenerated characters for this adventure when it becomes available as a pdf. We could not squeeze them into the module, but we certainly have the room online.

I just got finished thumbing through a copy of this at my FLGS. I didn't get much time to get any real details but it looks good. The guy at the store was confused as to what to do with the stuff he recieved for free RPG Day because there was such a small amount of it all. There was 10 copies of D0, 10 copies of the Goodman offering and 5 or less of the other stuff. Guess I'll be buying a copy here.

Although we did not have space in the module, we have plenty of space here. The pregens can be downloaded from this product page or directly through the following link.

Where do you find the FREE download link for this module?
Please help.

"Preorders for this product will be shipped starting June 25, 2007. This product will also be available as a free PDF at the same time."

The Preorder has been shipped, but I should get it on the 25th.

Picked up a copy of Hollow's last hope along with a few other things at my FLGS today. Only had time to skim it, but I'm very pleased with the quality. Not having bought an adventure from Paizo since Dungeon 92, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it's a very nice booklet, especially for the price. If this was around the same quality Pathfinder is going to be, I can say my choice to subscribe was one of the best I've made in a while.

Was kinda sad. Me, my wife, and roomate all drove for about an hour and a half to the nearest "Free RPG Day" store, but they didn't have anything by the time we got there (a little over an hour before they closed).

Wow! I say again Wow!

Of the offerings at the freerpg day thingy at my FLGS, this module had the best production value by a landslide. Awesome!

Now my ftf players are so looking forward to Pathfinder and/or Game Mastery products if this is just the sampling.

GG Paizo!

Went to our store 10 minutes after they opened and they "didn't have any left". Mind you the store was dead, Grumble grumble.

Knew there was a reason I almost Always got to the Other store in Town (but they weren't on the list to do it).

If anyone bothered to pick up the PCGen discs that were available as part of Free RPG Day (were they even available? The store I went to didn't get any), I thought I'd mention that I've created the pregenerated characters in PCGen and I'm working on the NPCs, monster race, and items as a loadable dataset.

For a brief time, I worked with Code Monkey Publishing on some of their licensed datasets. I'm making these in the release candidate of PCGen 5.12; I assume the discs had 5.10 on them but the characters should load, as I don't believe the datasets are using any of the new 5.12 features yet.

If Paizo is interested, I'd be happy to provide them with a copy of the full dataset when I'm completed for use as a free download, if they wish.

Hrmmm...the only PC generating discs my stores had was the one for Hero Lab. It had the beta data set for "World of Darkness"

Question for those who have D0: how much info is there about Falcon's Hollow and the surroundings?

Is there a map of the town? Maybe one of the country/region it is set in?

Any info about cultural groups or language spokens there?

Or just a short description of the town overlay with one or two buildings detailed?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

The PCGen CD-ROMs apparently didn't get to where they needed to go in time to be part of the Free RPG Day package. But it's a free download anyway....

Ah, that explains it; I searched the PCGen mailing list and couldn't find a reference to the CDs after April.

And yes, it is a free download.

I had the chance to run this for Free RPG Day -

My players loved it. Between the amazing pictures to show them, and the interesting fights, the group had a lot of fun. I had 3 people to start out with, but as more people showed up, my PC's ended up a party of six. We just doubled up on the pre-gens, and although it became easier, they still enjoyed it.

Good job Paizo - keep up the good work!

But it appears that there is a link for free pregens.

I've read through this one, and I think it's great. All the various encounters can be separated out and used anywhere, and it does have great hooks. I'll be dropping it into my kids' game this week.

Many published adventures include tips on scaling the adventure for parties at higher or lower levels, but nobody ever mentions scaling to parties of fewer or greater numbers. I have 2 kids, so without throwing in an NPC party member or 2, how do I scale this? They're both 2nd level, so will it work to drop them into an adventure meant for 4 1st level chars? That's what I'm trying. I'll let you know what I find out, but it might be nice to include some tips for this sort of thing, particularly in the larger modules/adventure paths.

just picked up my copy of Hollow's and I love it. For the size it packs a great begging to a story line and gives just enough info to expand upon. I will get the other books as soon as I am able. I just have two questions. will you have any beastiery a listing of the flora and fauna of Varisia.

plus on a side note it lists me as just a subscriber not a charter subscriber of pathfinder

It has a great map of the surronding area and a map of the dwarvin ruins, the ground floor anyway. but thats about it. I am sure with twice the room that Kobold King will have more details and more maps of the region. The thing I liek the best is it can be used a suplementory encounters for Kobold king, you just remove the basic story line and its all backdrop for use.

In order to get the Charter Subscriber title, you have to sign up for the month to month subscription before the first Pathfinder ships. Your month to month subscription won't actually begin until all your free copies of Pathfinder are delivered, but we wanted to reward folks who believed in us before they even saw a copy of Pathfinder. Of course, you can always cancel a month to month subscription even before the first paid issue ships if you don't like what you see in Pathfinder, so there really isn't any risk.

was hoping to make it to the game store over in Boise ID that had the promotion going yesterday, but alas 60 miles away & really no time to get over there, I wasn't able to make it, so I'll be going the 5 dollar + shipping route for mine. Love that there is pdf version, but nothing like having a hard copy in front to sit down & enjoy it (HEAR THAT WIZARDS!!!).

from the word so far sounds like a great start to a great line, keep it up Paizo, lately my favorite spot for rpg stuff!!

RM

I did notice a slight (and largely unimportant) error in the module while reading over it. In the 'read-aloud' description of area 2 ("The Yard") in Part 3, it mentions that the set of double doors are on the east side but, by the map in the front of the module, the double doors are most clearly on the WEST side (the east side features a hole in the wall filled with rubble, which is accurately described in the text).

Just FYI.

I picked up a copy yesterday for Free RPG Day, and I just read it today. All I can say is "wow." Okay, maybe I can say a bit more. This adventure rocks! I love low level adventures, but I think they tend to be harder to do well in terms of keeping it interesting without being too tough. Hollow's Last Hope may well be the best low level adventure (or "module" as we called 'em back in my day) I've ever read. It has everything. High production values? Check. Great artwork? Check. Old school feel and a cool story? Check. A chance for the PCs to act like heroes? Check. Decent and appropriate loot for the levels involved? Check. A variety of encounters? Check. Cool, traditional fantasy without any weird extra-planar half-dragon half-warforged Dromite power-ranger/ninjas? Check. This is *my* kind of adventure. And if you're reading this, it's probably your kind of adventure, too.

This thing is dripping with flavor. The whole area actually seems like an interesting place that would be exciting to explore. I especially liked the Razorcrows, the Firefoot Fennec, and the whole sidebar section on "Forest Fauna." Those Razorcrows are creepy and wicked-cool.

If this is the type of content we have to look forward to in Pathfinder and/or the other GameMastery modules, then I am one very happy camper.

Stop it already! I can barely wait for the PDF to go online... This is torture. ;-)

I'll have to wait a week or two more before I get the actual hardcopy version, but I really look forward to downloading it today (even though I am sure half of the gaming community will be doing it at the same time and download rates will plummet once again -- anybody remembers the AoW Overload? :-).

Are you going to get this bundled in the datasets that PC Gen release? Since Pathfinder and GameMastery are all OGL, then I suppose Paizo wouldn't mind. Would you? It would be fantastic to have these all coded up for PC Gen.

I went to both of the FLGS's within driving distance and NEITHER of them participated in Free RPG day. i don't live in the middle of no-where, I live right next to Toronto, Canada.
