It claims to use an adapted version of the Exalted rules, so I can only assume that this is NOT a World of Darkness product. I certainly hope not. The notion of god-like beings running around kind of ruins the flavor of the new WoD for me.

As a stand-alone game, this sounds like a pretty cool idea. I was a big fan of Aberrant but I didn't really care for the original Exalted much (or anything related to Exalted either, for that matter). Maybe this will be the best of both worlds? My problem with Exalted was that it seemed to be too heavily inspired by anime. I hate anime. :D

Fatey, your hatred of anime makes me weep! Exalted was- and still is- a great game, even if you have a modicum of interest in the genre. Scion looks cool, but I look forward to it as a stand alone game.

I'm with Fatespinner on this. Huge Aberrant fan, but Exalted was too cartoon-y for me. Perhaps it was only the art of Exalted that put me off, but I'm waiting to see if Scion has more substance.

While I loved the concept behind Exalted I found the execution lacking. I haven't tried the second edition now, but 1st edition was too complicated to allow multiple type of exalts to appear in a game session. It seemed to me like trying to play with Vampire Werrewolf and Mage during the same session and using all three rulebooks at the same time.

Maybe Scion will offer an intersting alternative to the heavy Exalted system and be what that game should have been...

Scion does seem to be the best of both worlds. I think. I'm not really familiar with Exalted, just the old World of Darkness stuff.

It seems - to me, anyway - to work pretty much the same as the old WoD stuff (experience point distribution, character gen., etc). Player characters aren't ultrapowerful like Aberrant characters, and could probably fit into either World of Darkness rather seemlessly.

The art is also top notch.

I picked this up at a used bookstore yesterday for $16. I was utterly blown away by the fact that a book this new had made it's way into a secondary market already (clearly it didn't impress someone) but, being somewhat frugal, I decided to seize the opportunity (sorry Paizo!).

My initial thoughts on this game is that it is like a hybrid of the old and new Storyteller systems. At a glance, the system seems somewhat awkward and complicated but I think that it has a lot of promise as well.

The 'feel' of the game is, as mentioned before, a kind of blend between Aberrant and Exalted. Scions are the offspring of mythical gods (the same ones we know and love: Aphrodite, Horus, Loki, and many more). These characters possess powers well beyond the scope of mere mortals but are somewhat less potent than the super-powered Aberrants. Additionally, Scions contend with Fate whenever they use their superpowers. Fate, as I understand, basically seeks to balance out the actions of the Scions by levying adversity against them. It is, in this respect, very similar to Paradox in Mage but more subtle and long-reaching.

It's a very interesting idea for a game overall and I look forward to playing it, but given the complexity of many of the systems (which is unusual for White Wolf), that may be some time in the distant future.

(RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32)

So is this the system to game the new Percy Jackson movie?
