I have been wanting something like this for a long time, i just didnt know it until i saw it on the shelf! next chance i get I'm buying a pad, because my PC's know how hard it is to keep track of all them hit points!
I just got my combat pad in last night, and I love it. The only thing that seemed odd is that I thought the pad itself, not the magnets, was going to be rigid, not floppy. It feels like some sort of soft plastic, instead of what I thought it was (from the description), a steel core with the printed stuff on top. I was thinking of actually gluing the piece of cardboard that comes in the sleeve to the back of it to make it less floppy. Anyway, thanks for a great product! I'll be using it with my group this Saturday.
I know what you mean prcrash. I just picked up my Combat Pad today. I was expecting the pad to be a lot sturdier than what it actually is. I am actually wondering if I might be able to stick a thin sheet of metal to the back of it, just to make it a bit stronger.
Has anyone else tried to do anything to make their pad stronger?
You could probably use a piece of foamcore board as well.

I run my campaign at a college - if we're playing in one of the classrooms, I plop it on the whiteboard near the next closest player.if we're running it in a dorm, I use a clear book-stand. that way the PCs can see the order and I can write the important skill checks for all the PCs on the back. my PCs know I'm rolling something, but have no clue what (I tend to roll towards this mini screen so it bounces off it and settles behind it so only I can see it

Just got this in yesterday and am looking forward to using it.
Agree that it's a little flimsy but I think I'll just keep it with the thickish piece of black cardboard that came with it - use it like a backing.
BTW, who could ever need extra magnets for this thing? There's a billion of the things. Any suggestions for storage? I was going to put them in a ziploc.

I store mine in the cardboard shipping envelope it was shipped in.

Oh, the sharp corners on the arrows wear pretty rapidly - but then, my first one has been in use off and on since I first saw it on the shelf at the FLGS.
Waiting for the treasure chest also.... and thank you Vic for the prompt replies. :)

It is actually the Treasure Chest, which is a preorder, that is holding up your order. The order is set to ship together, so nothing will ship until the Treasure Chest is released (which is expected to be sometime this month).

If you want to change this, just let me know!
Thanks,

Awesome news, I think I can be patient for a little bit more.. The players will just have to wait! I want my toys. :)
Just got the combat pad yesterday. I was a little disappointed with how thin and flimsy the Combat Pad is (but I had read the reviews here so expected it). I would suggest that the stiff black backboard in the package that's used to hold the package straight be attached to the back of the Combat Pad itself. This would provide the sturdy backing the Combat Pad lacks and use something that is being provided already. I expect I'll glue my combat pad to the stiff backboard that came in my package.
One of the reviews mentioned that the Combat Pad magnets don't cling well and he had trouble moving them. I didn't find this to be a problem as they do not cling strongly but they don't fall off and can easily slide along the surface of the board with little pressure.
I'm looking forward to putting the Combat Pad to use.

I haven't gotten a combat pad yet, but it is on my 'to get' list. Damn budgetary concerns.
Hearing about the 'thin & flimsy', I wonder if a combat pad might work if glued/velcroed/somehow affixed to a lap desk?
Any suggestions or experiences with this manner of modification from those who own one would be welcomed.
Cosmo and Alison are two people that convince me to continue to purchase from Paizo directly. Their dedication to their customers is beyond reproach at least from me. Thank you two very much.
Mine has a bubbly surface and is ugly. This fills me with :( . Any chance I could get another one?
I'll get a new one shipped out to you ASAP.
Thanks,
cos
Mine has a bubbly surface too, but I don't mind it so much since it doesn't stop me from writing on it and it gives it a bit of character... read: I thought it was supposed to be that way :)
I also purchased mine from my FLGS, but I have ordered directly from Paizo in the past and have always had the greatest customer service from here, so I second silverhair2008's sentiment as well...
Suggestion to Paizo: I'd be willing to pay similar money (late teens to mid 20s range) for an iPhone (upcoming iPad?!?) app doing the same thing!
Just a thought... ;)
And about the flimsiness issue: I took mine and Velcro'd it to the back of the clipboard I use during my sessions for notes; find that works well, and as long as I'm not animatedly speaking while I'm in note mode, holds up alright. Just a thought...

I got this a couple years ago and it is great. I glued mine to the black cardboard that came in the packaging to give it some strength. I also have mine usually attached to a clipboard.
What I would love to have is a larger version of this combat pad, that could be put up for all players to see.

I still plan to attach mine to the black cardboard that came in the packaging. As it is, I just left it in the plastic packaging with the cardboard and I actually write on the plastic it came in. Kind of lame on my part but I do plan to attach it to the black cardboard eventually.
I also got the extra magnet pack that also came with black cardboard so last session when I needed more writing surface, I just slid a piece of paper down in the plastic of the extra magnet pack and used it to track monster hp (which I normally track on the combat pad). I think I'll probably do this in the future too so the players can see the combat pad. Of course I also use a wet-erase mat so I suppose I could just track monster hp on it instead of writing on the packaging.
I love the combat pad. So convenient when there are changes and additions to the initiative order. It was the first thing I bought from Paizo.
When is the combat pad going to be available again?
We're in the last stages of a redesign before it goes back to manufacturing, so probably no sooner than January. (Hopefully not much later than that, too!)

We're still awaiting some finishing touches, so... not quite yet.
Crystal was putting finishing touches on the design this past week. However, this is a licensed product, with our partners at Open Mind Games, so they still have to approve it.
Since I already have this, I'm a bit curious what kind of redesign they've done. Is it going to actually make it better, or is it more cosmetic?
Assuming our partners approve the new design, there will be a little less wasted space. We may also be using a slightly more sturdy material, but that's less certain at this point.

Both of those are GREAT improvements to the combat pad (especially the sturdier material), but not enough to get me to get a new one. I just attached it to a piece of stiff cardboard.
here is a link to non-mint comabat pads:Combat pad!!
both of the ones I got only had minor corner bends, of course with the new one possibly being even better, waiting could be good. Alas, as for me, I will most likely be purchasing the new one too. doh.
