allo

i'm confused about the price of this wonderful miniature.

judging by the comments by dj-chuckles and paizo, i get the impression that the 14.95 price includes shipping. but when i add the mini to my shopping cart, it adds 3.80 for usps standard mail.

what's the deal? does the 14.95 include shipping or not?

messy

The way I understand it.

14.95 is the usual price for the mini, which doesn't include shipping charge.

9.95 was a special price charged to Dragon and/or Dungeon subscribers, which doesn't include shipping charge. DJ-Chuckles was probably a Dragon/Dungeon subscriber when he purchased it, but a shipping charge of 5$ was added to his purchase, and he mistakenly thought he was charged 14.95 for the mini. Paizo staff replied to his complaint to point out his mistake to him.

Now, what I'm not sure is if the Pathfinder sub would replace the Dragon/Dungeon sub to get a 5$ reduction. Or if you can still take advantage of the special price if you had a Dragon/Dungeon sub before you switched to Pathfinder sub. If not, then you will have to pay the usual 14.95 and add usual shipping charge.

I hope this helps.

can someone from paizo clarify this?

From the blog post when it was first made available to non subscribers:

store blog wrote:
Until our limited supply is exhausted, D&D enthusiasts everywhere can now purchase up to two of the Limited-Edition Sorcerer on Black Dragon minis for the price of $14.95 each. Dragon and Dungeon subscribers will automatically get a $5 discount applied at checkout, reflecting the previous subscriber-only price.

If you had a subscription prior to the mags going under it is still showing up as 9.95+ shipping totaling 14.95 or so (at least in my case not sure if this is correct or not) but when I am not signed in it shows up in the cart as 14.95 + shipping

messy,

Your fellow posters are correct. It's available to everyone, and the price does not include shipping.

Can anyone confirm if the rider is removable?

I don't mind popping him off if he's only glued, but I don't want to get the hacksaw out.

If he is optional, it doubles the potential usage.
Even more so, if he leaves no saddle behind.

Something for sculptors to keep in mind for any future rider/monster sculpts, I think...

(RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8)

as far as I can tell from mine, no he's not removable.

That said I know I've seen some conversions that look good.

Qadira (RPG Superstar 2008 Top 6, Contributor)

Not removable. I converted one of the regular versions of this mini, by cutting off the rider.

That's a pity. Not all of us want Billy Idol tagging along whenever we bring out a large black dragon.

Which brings me to another point about DDM.

We don't see sizes listed for any minis, except the Iconic Dragon Boxes.
Obviously, some sizes are able to be inferred from the nature of the subject, but there are lots of creatures (notably dragons) who progress through several sizes as they advance, and lots of unfamiliar, non-SRD critters, who are either from specific settings, new to 4E, or made up completely brand-new for the minis game.

Having a size code would prompt more browsers to think "Heyyyy, that could double as a (whatever)...", instead of "What's that? Who knows...".

Guys, this may sound silly, but I haven't been in the market for a long time: what are these figures made of these days? Any thoughts on quality of the materials? (plastic vs lead/pewter, etc, etc).

Never mind. I've figured it out. Thanks

It's a nice mini - I got one or two or three.

(RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8)

I have two or three myself.

I recommend the promo over the 'basic' one. The paint jobs on mine are superior.

I'll point out it has to be a black. Few people deserve the honour of riding a Blue. :-)
