A local bookstore here has a bunch of this line for sell at about 12 to 15 bucks each. I've toyed with picking them up. How is this as a game overall? I'm a fan of the t.v. show (though not obsessive like some of my friends) would this be worth picking up?

I'm not unbiased, as I've written professionally about both the game and the show.
Basically, it allows you to place your group anywhere in the world and at any time in the Buffyverse cannon. It's theatrical rather than tactical: you're encouraged to think in terms of episode arcs and season arcs. The PCs are called the cast and the DM is the director, e.g.
In addition, they came up with a great way to balance the Slayer vs. the Scoobies: the Slayer's great in combat, but the White Hats get a souped-up version of action points that allow them to accomplish narrative goals or negate others' actions. So, you could spend one point and say, "I... I think I'm... okay!" to be healed from a devastating attack, or have your character's research come up with the right clue, or have your normally weak character go nuts for a short period in combat because someone they love is threatened, etc.
And if you don't like that, there are games out there on the net that don't use a Slayer at all.
And you're encouraged to crack wise. You get bonuses for making the table laugh with in-character dialogue.
The thing that you will have to get past is that the presentation of the book is very pretty, with high-gloss pages, pics from the show, and many quotes. It's nice to look at, but distracting if you need to look up a particular rule.

Sounds fun over all. Definitely be fun to run for pick up games with some of my friends that are absolutely in love with the show. And as a GM I tend to lean towards the narrative/roleplaying side of things rather than the tactical side. I may go down and give the core book a good perusal, then go from there. Thanks for your input roguerouge.

Quite a shame, too, as the game had promise.
Of course we all know, Kristy Swanson is the REAL Buffy.
The original Buffy movie is so painful. So ... much ... camp.
Truthfully, I'd rather someone discovered another box of the Magic Box supplement somewhere. I can make up Sunnydale if I wanted to. The magic rules, though, haven't appeared anywhere else in Cinematic Unisystem. :(
