Can you find that article then? Because he actually did that as well.

I feel the reasoning given was stupid then as it is stupid now.

Well he did skip going in 2006 as well, but I haven't seen anything yet where he was applauded for it. There was another steeler that was going to talk smack to Bush in 2006, but when he actually got there didn't.

I think it was stated in a stupid fashion, but I don't think it is necessarily stupid. Not wanting to pander to someone that only gives a rat's ass about you because you happen to be on the winning team, is not necessarily stupid. Obama (or Bush) doesn't care about him, so why should he give a damn about them?

Yeah, that is why I went with admonishing the reasoning given; there are plenty of reasons not to go including not wanting this as one of the prizes. To me, what and the way he stated made it seem much more like him not caring about the concept of prizes for accomplishments overall.

World-renowned paleontologist pleads guilty to stealing fossils

I'm a total dino-nut, so this is a sad event to me. At first I assumed he was stealing them before they were destroyed by construction... Tough times when a scientist stoops so low for a few thousand dollars to line his pocket :-(

I thought you were talking about this story of dinosaurs bones and crime. But apparently this is an industry that is more full of nefariousness than I even would have thought!

Letter from owner of dealership about Chrysler taking away his franchise.

The scary thing is that it may be legal. Imagine being told your $3M business inventory that you own will be made nearly worthless in less than a month.

And the article that reports on it.

Hello, NIH? I think I just figured it out for you. The virus is passed on primarily through unprotected sex. The Thai prostitutes are engaging in unprotected sex with a lot of tourists, some of which have HIV. Hence, they're being exposed to HIV through their job.

That will be $178,000 please.

Eyebrow shaver gets student expelled for the rest of the year and the first 45 days of next year

She brandished it as a weapon, right? Wrong--it simply turned up in a random pocketbook search...

"The state's Safe School Act defines a weapon as"..."and any other tool capable of inflicting bodily harm."

I guess they don't allow pencils, pens, staplers, scissors, or the demon-spawn staple removers in that state...

Rulers, duct tape, desks, chairs...

The article is all sorts of confusing.

Keeping money accidentally deposited in your account is 'generally considered a crime?' Well gosh, it's either against the law, or it isn't. Where the heck do they get off saying, 'Well, I guess you shouldn't do that, so we're gonna send Interpol after you, for something that we've just now decided should probably be considered a crime...'

Lame.

I don't know if the laws are different in Australia, but having spent a few years working as a banker in the US, I can say without ambivalence, "Yes it's a crime."

Either the laws in Australia are pretty accommodating, or this article was unnecessarily ambiguous.

Their best bet is to take a tour, see the world, spend money like crazy on food, hotels and tourism, and get back home and say, "What? You mean the money wasn't ours? I was never good at math!"

There goes the school baseball team; those bats are dangerous and have to go. The baseballs as well, because they hurt when you throw them hard enough.

Speaking of throwing, no more dodgeball...

Yikes. Would it not be more feasible, not to mention more economical, to just train more bomb-sniffing dogs? I hear their reliability is a lot higher, and their "filters" tend not to clog as badly...

New Zealand is NOT Australia. And you can get lynched for suggesting it is. Also, never call a Scotsman an Englishman. The bagpipe is an ancient weapon as well as a musical instrument of torture.

That's why we instituted the "no hugging" policy.

And never call an Irishman a Scotsman, and ESPECIALLY not an Englishman.

The Irish gave the Scots the kilt and bagpipe, but the Scots haven't gotten the joke yet.

Over 2.3 square miles to build a memorial? That's a pretty big block of granite...

In case you're wondering how big 1500 acres is, it's the exact size of the National Mall in DC.

I wonder why the erosion of property rights doesn't disturb the general public. It almost never comes up in political discourse, but it's happening everywhere.

Because the average Joe (and Josephine) quite frankly isnt smart enough to understand what your talking about and dont care - until it happens to them of course. It would mean - God forbid - that they might have to miss american idol this week to read about something.

I dont know how true this is but according to the Maryland (my home state) Dealers Association, dropping dealerships will do almost nothing to save Chrysler or GM money. Apparently they are franchises and 90% of their profits go back to the car companies with almost no overhead.

There is a dealership in Montgomery County MD that was started at the end of WW 1 that received the bad news and they have over $2M in cars on their lot.

I've heard the term Irish comes from a Gaelic word meaning "Scots who could swim."

I get tired of reading the news; so many murders in ABQ; I have a bud who is guarding a place where they keep finding dead bodies; dont know what the count is up to; like 14 or something; Last week they found a 3 year old kid buried in a shallow grave in a park; kid was stangled; they arrested the mom I think on Saturday and charged her with murder, was in the weekend paper; sheesh; last year it was bank robberies; had like 14 by june; this year; violent crime. The Sunday headline was some dude killed his paramour; a pregnant teen and her dad. Sheesh; the other two articles; one about illegal horse races hard to stop and an assembly plant in Mexico opening.

reading the news is depressing; hope some peeps post some good headlines; well, other than sports. It would be nice to hear whats going on in other places that dont have so much crime.

To some people, it is. To others, it's just a sign that twins don't always form properly.

Now, the idea that we may have the second world's tallest man coming from Asia...that seems more apocalyptic to me. Geez, look at the size of the guy. He doesn't seem to be displaying the traits you normally see in people with gigantism.

One of the most f%*#ed up actually-happened news stories I've ever read

This article infuriates me. I can't imagine what this child went through, or how he will grow up now. I normally argue against the death penalty, but this kind of case would have me tempted to kill the bastard myself.

I'm trying to imagine the restraint of the police officer who hears a naked and bleeding, traumatized, 4 year old boy say, "My daddy ate my eyes."

I agree with wanting to kill the bastard myself. Hopefully, he'll go to prison. I heard that people who do things like this to children get 'special' treatment in prison.

"The killing provided the clear-cut rationale for the movement’s opposition to what its members saw as a violent, unjust state, when in fact the supposed fascist villain of leftist lore was himself a committed socialist." - Der Spiegel

Just because an east german agent started the leftist movement with a killing doesnt mean west Germany wasnt a facist tyranny. The Movement was already active. Eventually the police would have killed someone for throwing rocks at the chancellor's limo and it would have escalated anyhow.
