Ouch, yeah. I live with that on a daily basis. Nexium's your best bet, Prilosec if you can't/won't/don't want to get a prescription. That and a complete diet revamp, depending.
I'm not sure, as I haven't seen a doctor, but the big killer for me was laying off pretty much all caffiene. So no soda, no coffee, only caffiene-free teas, no chocolate, etc. etc. etc.

Life without caffeine isn't worth living.
My wife had to lay off citrus fruits, onions, coffee, soda and even tomato sauce!

There are a lot of things you can change, most of which have been covered by the good people here. (Hi, Yoda!)
One thing you may want to take a look at in addition to diet would be the status of your teeth, especially your molars and/or wisdom. One of the people on my caseload had truly awful GERD and we had no idea where it came from until he went to the dentist and got a truly rotten molar removed. It hasn't gone way completely but the difference between his life then and his life now is considerable. My wife also went for ride on the GERDcoaster and found out that a lot of it was due to a her adenoids and the chronic ear infections she got as a result. You may want to look into that too, but that's truly a long shot.
Mothman, my grandma got disoriented like that when she was in hospice. The nurses there recommended some drugs for her (some anti-anxiety medication, too) that really helped her. I don't know what they're called, or what your grandpa's situation is, but you can ask - it could help.

My cough may be acid reflux damage to my throat.My dad, a non-smoker, got throat cancer a few years back and they think it was from this. I hope you can get it taken care of, as it can be a more serious issue than many assume.
Also the son of a throat cancer patient.
I've been avoiding mentioning that link, but since yoda brought it up I'll add that if it is reflux damage then you have a small chance of developing barrett's esophagus which then gives a small increase in your chance of getting cancer.
In short, it's a small risk increase overall.
Don't worry, chill out, and wait for the results of your tests. If they do recommend diet changes, do your best to give them a try.
Sheesh; three years and STILL in court trying to get custody of my kids; talk about land of tomorrow; sheesh; the court system here is worse than lethargic; it like they all are on high doses of "slower than a snail" drugs and who cares that little ol me is out 30,000 dallors just because the judge cant make a decision; like how many "expert opinions" that all say the same damn thing does she need; sheesh. Three years; how would any of you like it if someone stole your kids for three years and the courts literally said "well, we gotta go slow with this sort of thing"
This has maximum suckage; sheesh I eat Raman noodles and frozen vegatables and work my butt off and dont get much for it; hope the worm turns soon for all of us.

A couple of my players are psychologists and did work for the courts evaluating families. They said it was the the most painful job in the world. Filtering through all the facades people throw up while being evaluated combined with having to interrogate children is a difficult process and nobody wants to make the wrong choice.
Hopefully the outcome is worth the wait.

Thanks guys; this post is good ventage and support; so much pain and loss though from so many that you would think this thread would get sucked into a black hole or something hehe; had to use the word suck somewhere just to keep with the theme; I feel for all of you; holidays are hard when families are all in dissarray from sickness, death, relationship fighting, and the courts; sheesh. If as they say; Life is the stories you tell; I need to start telling a new story. hehe; all the talk about mid life crises; sheesh; I turn 45 next week so I figure I have another 20 years before mid life shinanigans; gotta wait for the kids to be in or out of college.

Things are good enough that I bought my wife's Christmas present today (a new camera) and a book for me (Monte Cook's Collected Book of Experimental Might). Thanks Black Friday!

I sincerely envy those who can live in the moment. Regrettably, shopping therapy does nothing for me but add to my clutter, which depresses me. Kind of an up 'n down dynamic.

I suffer from clinical depression. If I don't live in the now, I get caught in the past. And, well, I've been ordered to delete any and all references to the recursive probability simulation running on all rings and matrices, and for the good of me, myself and I, repress and deny any desire to restart said simulation.
Shopping therapy sometimes works, but it really depends on what I buy.

I have four weeks left of unemployment before they stop sending me checks. The job market hasn't improved in the last five months and prospects aren't great. And new legislation has just extended benefits for anyone who lost their job before June 15...two weeks before I lost mine. Me? I guess it's easier for me to find a job than it is someone who's been out of work longer.
