Holy terribleness!

Much love, sympathy and empathy for my Paizo brethren.

Except Shiny: he can weep, weep, weep himself to sleep in his cold empty bed: "MEEEE! I miss my hot girlfriend.... MEEEE!"

j/k Shiny. Been there, bro... except she finally dumped me and made me cry like a schoolgirl with her name on the boy's room wall.

But if it's happening, then I hope that for all your sakes it's quick and clean and at least with a minimum possible of bad feelings.

I have been there and my first and last conversation on the subject of divorce with my wife meant I never saw her (or my dog) again. But when I look at the happy life I have now, I hope you can get just as lucky lynora.

Take care

Thank you everyone for your concern.

An update: It turns out that my mother had a ruptured appendix and she got sick, causing her to get pneumonia. I guess the doctor gave my aunt a grim prognosis because her vital signs were very weak, but she's doing better now that she's had surgery and they are removing the septic material.

She'll probably be out of the ICU in a couple of days and stay hospitalized through the week.

One good thing to come of this is that we're talking again. She was very happy to see me and very apologetic about not talking to me. I assured her that was all in the past. She got to see pictures of her grandchildren she hasn't seen for almost 10 years.

She still refuses to even talk about the lung cancer. She's a very stubborn woman (obviously), but I'll have to keep trying.

Well, let me chime in:

-my grandmother, who raised me when I was younger, and is probably my most influential person has Alzheimers. She doesn't know who I am, and sometimes ignores my visits completely. To make matters worse, she won't eat and is refusing medication. She is someone I would do anything for and to see her waste away is the most painful thing I have ever experienced.

-my mothers boyfriend just found out he has lung, liver and brain cancer. The doctors gave him 1-4 months to live. He goes to a specialist in the city on Tuesday and I can't even be there for my mom to help drive her back because my work situation is like this: me=manager. My boss=vacation. Assistant Manager=surgery that day. Other staff is already working their alotted hours that day or in case of one, in court.

This is on top of work being slow, the industry in this area dying down, winter coming up, bills, and an apparent 1031$ I owe the government that just randomly showed up.

Not a good Friday-Sunday.

Taig- I'm glad to hear that there is some effort at reconcilliation. I hope your family is able to enjoy a bit of time with your mother in a postive way.

Grimsh- I am so very sorry to hear about that double blow! I've had a couple of relatives develope Alzheimers. It is the most brutal, horrific thief on the face of the planet. Somethat that, no hyperbole, I would not wish on my worst enemy. I pray that you are given a couple of lucid days with her.

Paltry to be certain, but just my contribution to purging negative energy... I attended the Memorial for the fallen soldiers at Fort Hood today. It was excellent, all presenters gave very good speeches, I had an excellent view of the podium. Then, just before President Obama gave his speech, my camera's battery died. I have a very nice picture of one of the Secret Service / Protocol people putting the Presidential Seal on the podium, though...

Yes, he was my neighbor. His wife was also in the game for a long time (Eberk) but she dropped off awhile back. We go too slow :)

He leaves behind two five year old twin boys who play with my kids every day, so we're all kind of circling the wagons right now. What she needs most is for a couple of life insurance companies to do the right thing and pay her. She's been away from work for a long time. Luckily she has a flexible employer and alot of good friends and local family.

This is just really plain annoying. Paizo is blocked from my work again. The army periodically tightens down on the sites that people are able to access and for now, Paizo is off limits. So only posting very first thing in the morning or in the evening after the kids go to bed, probably. You can still surf ebay and craigslist or any of dozens of fishing/hunting sites... Gun collection sites and messageboards? No problem! But Paizo messageboards are games and therefore forbidden. I f*cking hate working with dumb-ass DOIM and their arbitrary restrictions!

Here is a possible workaround for you to try out.....

How to visit the Web sites your company blocks
The Problem: Companies often block employees from visiting certain sites -- ranging from the really nefarious (porn) to probably bad (gambling) to mostly innocuous (Web-based e-mail services).
The Trick: Even if your company won't let you visit those sites by typing their Web addresses into your browser, you can still sometimes sneak your way onto them. You travel to a third-party site, called a proxy, and type the Web address you want into a search box. Then the proxy site travels to the site you want and displays it for you -- so you can see the site without actually visiting it. Proxy.org, for one, features a list of more than 4,000 proxies.
Another way to accomplish the same thing, from Frauenfelder and Trapani: Use Google's translation service, asking it to do an English-to-English translation. Just enter this -- Google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.blockedsite.com -- replacing "blockedsite.com" with the Web address of the site you want to visit. Google effectively acts as a proxy, calling up the site for you.
The Risk: If you use a proxy to, say, catch up on e-mail or watch a YouTube video, the main risk is getting caught by your boss. But there are scarier security risks: Online bad guys sometimes buy Web addresses that are misspellings of popular sites, then use them to infect visitors' computers, warns Lobel. Companies often block those sites, too -- but you won't be protected from them if you use a proxy.
How to Stay Safe: Don't make a habit of using proxies for all your Web surfing. Use them only to visit specific sites that your company blocks for productivity-related reasons -- say, YouTube. And watch your spelling.

Bill Lumberg,

Fakey:

A group of employers is going to find out about your subversive posting and exact revenge. You will suddently be stabbed in the back by someone dressed all in red.

Celestial Healer,

For me, I think I can use Paizo at work because it is categorized as "publisher" or something similar, as opposed to "games" which is how most other RPG-oriented sites are categorized (and blocked as a result).
