Getting over the flu one week only to lose my voice a week later to some sort of infection. I hate not being able to talk to my wife. :/

[not the suck]Getting married in a week.[/not the suck]

In the past 3 months...

  • my cat and brand new apartment were infested with fleas,
  • I was in a head-on collision (I'm ok, my fiance's car is totalled),
  • sold off the majority of my miniature collection (my babies) to pay for wedding,
  • the FLGS where I run a couple of f2f games is switching to an internet sales based model and is closing its doors on Sunday,
  • was suspended from work today and may lose my job after a manager overhead a comment and percieved it as a threat (though the target of the percieved threat took it as a jest).

I feel overwhelmed, but on the other hand my life is very closely resembling a romantic comedy, and those usually end well.

I'm praying that is the case.

Congratulations on the wedding! Focus on the positive if you can.

ericthecleric,

I've been chatting with a girl on the 'net for the last month or so. Everything's been going well. However, on Monday I asked her to be online at 7 pm so we could chat, which would give me half an hour before dinner was ready at 7.30. So I received a message at 6.30 saying she'd be on in half an hour. I go online at 7 pm, and wait... then at 7.28 sent a message saying that I had to get off saying that dinner would be ready in two minutes. Anyway, I had my dinner, then checked the computer, although I knew I had to be quick because I was going to a pub quiz, and found a message saying that she went on at 7.30. Sigh. If only she'd been online when I asked. Damn it, I've not received any messages from her since then, which is annoying because I really like her, and thinks she likes me. But then her mid-week messages have been sparse over the last few weeks.
Sigh... I hope she does get in touch again so we can chat. :-( I'm miss her.

ericthecleric,

I wish a frickin' free listing day would turn up on ebay... I've got a ton of stuff I want to get rid of, and I don't fancy forking out listing fees if the stuff doesn't sell. :-( Hurry the heck up! I won't be able to visit the States next year unless enough stuff sells; grrrr...

RATS. IN. MY. KITCHEN.

Wake up, stuff from the highest shelves are knocked over and chewed through so I have to clean every surface and mop the floor before I can eat breakfast, scour out every cooking utensil before using it, etc.

We've blocked up the holes with steel wool, tin foil, caulk, everything we can think of, but they keep busting out and getting more aggressive. The roomates in the front room are staying in a hotel tonight, they're so bad. I'm in the back and my door works, so I'm not bothered in my sleep by them, but it's just the most annoying and disgusting thing in the world. We contacted the landlord last week and they haven't done anything and now there are more entrances and more rats. I've got a complaint letter typed up; just waiting for everyone to sign it and it's in the mail. Giving the landlord 30 days to fix it or else we get the health department involved and get an inspection (which will hopefully be enough to free us from the lease).

Eeeek! That´s really nasty. I had mice in my kitchen while I was studying (it was an old house), but rats are really disgusting. And you probably won´t get rid of them unless you burn down the whole place. They are very persistent.

James K. on the topic of rats. If your landlord gets off his rear and does what he should do, although unless your leasing laws difer from SC laws he doesn't have to, a good pest control company can get rid of the infestation. It will take time, several months if it's as bad as you say. I've dealt with some pretty nasty rodent infestations myself. I'm assuming from what you say youlve in a condo/apartment structure, and the key will be getting everyone in the building to allow entry, this can really only be done by the jerklord in question though. If he won't spring for a pro, I can do some reserch and offer some consumer level rodenticides if you would like. It's been so long since I bought anything over the counter, I'd need to check them based on active ingredient. But I would be more than happy to help if I can.

Spoiler:
OK, I don't miss people. I go away for extended periods of time, and I'm fine. I leave, I do my thing, no sweat. I am the solipsist. I need no one.

I really need to cut the b&@&!~~~.

When I came to Georgia, I left my girlfriend back in New York. We've been together almost a year, and she's the best thing that's ever happened to me, hands-down. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her. And it's really eating at me. I call, I write, but it still eats at me. She still loves me, and I love her, but I feel like I'm letting her down being here. I just have to keep telling myself that my stay here is going to be over soon, and I'll be able to see her.

I know there's no chance in hell she'll leave me, and there's no chance in hell I'll leave her-- it's just that I need to be with her, and right now I physically can't. I feel like I'm going to crack any day now, and it scares the hell out of me.

You are becoming weak. You need something strong, something hard. The iron. The iron is calling you Shiny. It won't snivel when you walk away. It won't weep false tears and flicker insincere sympathy when you feel weak. You don't have to kiss it and hug it and give it warmth. The iron is cold and unbreakable. Just push it and push yourself. The iron will make you strong, Shiny, it will give you back your edge.

Thanks, Moorluck. I'm going to try those electric traps while I wait for the super to at least call and say it isn't their responsibility or that they're doing something about it. The people on the fourth floor said they had problems, too.

So I have a very sad story. It turns out that the service that Amazon uses to do e-checks doesn't work with my bank. So I won't be getting the bestiary anytime soon. Ruth says we can get it at Barnes and Noble the next time we go to St. George, but the next time we do that won't be for two weeks and that's assuming that Barnes and Noble has a copy when we go, and we have the money to get it. :(

We haven't done poison; the landlord sent an exterminator yesterday and he patched up all the holes (especially behind the dish washer) with cement and set up traps in everyones' rooms. Hopefully that will be the start of a solution, since this likely isn't over yet.

On the plus side, you won't have dead rats in the walls stinking the place up for months. On the downside, rats have trapfinding and uncanny dodge! Try not to move the traps once the rats have seen them - they get very cautious around stuff that has changed.

Patrick, Xabulba, I know what y'all are going through. I was out of work from February until May this year, took any old crap job in May (waiting tables at Denny's), and didn't find a good job until August. It was definitely not fun.

My best advice would be to take whatever you can get to have some money coming in, that way you can be a bit more patient in finding a solid job. It sucks, especially if you're qualified to do something more lucrative, but, man, it's tough out there right now.

Good luck, both of you, things will get better.
