And if it's been done before, mea culpa, I'm starting a new one!

So, on with the show.

I would love to hear people ring in on the silly/cleverly referential/preposterous names they have used for characters or seen others use in games they've been in.

I'll start off with a few from my recent games.

Gerfried Isidor. Gerfried, if taken literally (which names rarely are) would translate to "Spear Peace" from German. As the character is an Evoker, I always mean it to translate to "Peace through superior firepower"

Diestel Bronzebrow. Diestel Farms turkey was the inspiration here.

Deuteri Bronzebrow. Diestel's sister. Name inspired by the element "Deuterium" because I thought it a nifty name for a Dwarf from an engineering/mining clan.

Osgood Barksplitter. A Halfling who just goes by "Oz". We represent the archery guild, the archery guild, the archery guild. And we'd like to welcome you to YRFN-land.

Clarice Brindlespot. An overly curious gnome. Mostly for the first name, and yes the lambs are still screaming.

Drenthaliana Walks-The-Wood. I love this name because it's a really odd little twist. It's an expanion of the word "Dren" which is the character's nickname. Dren is a conlang word from the Farscape series, and is the in universe word for excrement. (I'm tempted to write up a character whose name is a riff on Frell next..)

And something that's neither a reference nor anything other than personal amusement is the fact that until I picked up gaming with my wife, all of my D&D characters were either "Tovar Moondragon" or "Tovara Moondragon" and they were invariably magic-users or wizards. I think I stopped that naming trend on "Tovar Moondragon the 27th"

Gaelhan Ramsaas: Psion Kinetecist with a preference for Lightning and Sonic damage.

Kreevan Irthirirthos: Kobold Binder, using the Draconic table from Races of Dragon his surname translates to "keeper of secrets". The funny part came in when no one else in the group could pronounce it. "Irthith... Irthroth... wait what?"

I've also had several incarnations of an Air Genasi Cleric of Fharlaughn/Shaundakul/equivalent philosophy, a walker of the earth type who's always on the move; her name was Midgard.

Think that's all for me.

Midgard. That's nifty. *grins* Thanks for sharing!

I suppose every game of Paranoia ever had these sorts of names. Only place Yossa-R-IAN, Benedict-R-NLD, and Rosas-R-RED could work "together", if nothing else.

Andoran (RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16)

Frizzap, my highly-optimized Warmage who brought "the power of thunder and lightning" down on his enemies. I think my fellow players got tired of me shouting "Frizzap!" when I blew something up.

Comic book inspired character names:

Phehyhdh, my emo half-elf who was always being grim and gritty. He got mauled by a polar bear and that was the end of him. The name (pronounced "fade") was an "homage" to all the crappy spellings from '90s Image comics.

Derl Quox, highly intelligent halfling rogue who was completely inept at social interaction. His name was a spoonerism of Querl Dox.

I've been meaning to make a dim-witted fighter character called Liefeld for a while now.

Awesome.. he should carry one pouch for every item and a few extra swords he never uses. Think about naming him Blooddeath or Starfist though.

And take the flaw "tiny feet"

Qadira (RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8)

Oem Goatsong, the depressing bard.

The Greek word 'tragoidia' (tragedy) means goat-song and Oem was a rearrangement of the letters in emo.

LIEFELD BLOODDEATH of the THOUSAND POUCHES

Though, I would argue that he would have to take the feat "obscured lower legs," which grants 100% concealment from the shins downwards, due to their being off the page.

Seen that before. Good s!&#. One of the artists here at SCAD, Dove McHargue, did a little doodle of a musclebound man covered in pouches, with an insignia that read "CAPTAIN LIEFLED." The caption read "EVIL LURKS, BUT I CAN'T REACH MY GUNS!" I have no idea what happened to the drawing. I may have to replicate it.

My wife has this story about a BBEG named "Dos V" It took her over a decade to realize that his name was his giveaway as a Communist. Dos V Danya.

Even if he COULD reach his guns, he wouldn't know how to hold them :)

I would like to point out the ... um, I guess it's irony? in you posting to this thread with that alias.

Just thought I'd comment.

I had Elven Bard/Ranger, Dallabnikcufecin, who had the worst time keeping his animal companions alive. He had a series of them in order;

Esprocdoogaeb - Dog "Espy"
Owtesprocdoogaeb - Cat "Owty"
Eerhtesprcodoogaeb - Badger "Eerhty"
Ruofesprocdoogaeb - Wolf "Ruofy"
Evifesprocdoogaeb - Horse "Evie"
Xisesprocdoogaeb - Raven "Xises" (who ended up living. lol)

Brian

P.S. Read them Backwards
P.P.S. +1 to who knows the reference for the character name

About every other Dwarf I make for a computer game (NWN, etc.) is named Flint Anstiel. His motto: "A Dwarf in his natural habitat. Full plate."

Another computer game character (FR): Musk O'Tyr
(In the Realms, IIRC, clerics often list their deity when they identify themselves. 8^)

I ran a wizard named Alistair and his raven familier named Crowley, and their was a dwarf fighter named Huge Badaxe and a elf ranger named Fleetwood Feathershaft also in a travler game I played a Vargr pirate named Don Karnage.

Taldor (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

I had a player stumped for a name who looked at the back of a Coke bottle and came up with Phosphorus Aciddian.

I generally have fun with naming my characters. I had a 3.5 sorcerer called Tsu Nami, i had a small warforged Paladin called Boiye astra, and a PF elf encromancer called imalit telleemogirl, which people dubbed Emily.

He'd keep trying to grab the space about two inches to the left of the grip, and the thing would keep bending away from the target.

Gold star! Especially for the ranger.

My first monk in Rolemaster was named Miri Kell. no one called him by his full name and it took a month or more before they caught on.

A friend of mine came up with this one. I had to have it explained.

Pfizer Glasco - Human Cleric.

Someone else explain it to the clueless ones like me. :)

I had a player who was challenged by late night sessions, so he called his (1st ed) magic user: Arfa Cupfull, of Koffee...

Reggie.

The ship was named "Iron Vulture".

I had a monk character named Ped Xing. It finally dawned on one of the other players as they were driving over to game one evening.

I usually take the naming of my characters very seriously. It's generally the longest part of char generation for me. So, when I started making Pathfinder Society characters, I decided to have fun with it. So far I have:

My Half-orc Rogue who posts here occasionally; Roagh.

My Human Barbarian, registered but not yet played; Kr'Ack DeSkul.

And my also not yet played Cleric; Yul Beefine.

(Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

I had an NPC named Sir Loin of Pond de Rosa... Sadly, he died at the steak.
