thanks to an idea by the lovely Lillith here is the stygian beast the stygian beast is apparently a fusion of a Barghest and an Aboleth enjoy the sketch!
Once a friend of mine has the stats made and another friend their pictures made, something that shows that my friends and I really shouldn't be allowed free-time with DnD books will be posted.
The original idea for a more Golarion-eque Myconid is posted here.
The jist of it's description is that the 'warrior caste' have mushroom like caps, with spore-launching openings, and where a normal mushroom would have a trunk, they have seven intertwining vine-like stalks that wrap around each other until they reach the ground, and then split off into seven waving tentacles, which which they can lash out, or wield shields (made from the cast-off caps of smaller fungus-people), scimitars and / or alchemical weapons. A warrior stands on four of it's stalk-tentacles (which fan out about three feet in all directions and pull the creature along the ground), and uses one to hold a shield, a second to hold a scimitar and a third to either lash out (having a displacer-beast like toothed pad at the end of each tendril) or hurl alchemical acid, tanglefoot bags, etc, usually contained in leathery-looking 'wineskins' made from woven fibers (and treated to be acid-resistant on the inside, for those used to contain acid). Otherwise, they appear to wear or carry no other gear (keeping any extra alchemical missiles stored within their 'trunk,' by parting their central tendrils and just slipping the item inside, then closing them up again, holding it snugly within themselves).
The warriors are man-sized, roughly, although smaller workers (with only five tendrils) and larger leaders also exist.
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone (or several someones) wants to run with this!
Just bumping my own request, since it doesn't seem to have made it onto the outstanding requests list. :)
And - skimming through this thread I realized I never thanked you for the sweet ship of DOOM you drew. Meant to, but kept getting distracted by other thread I guess - my apologies.
That's really true to how I described them! Thanks!
Seeing them, I'm thinking a less broad 'cap' (more like a morel, less like a toadstool?) might be cooler looking (as long as it doesn't turn out overly phallic!). The tentacle-trunks were pretty much how I envisioned them, and I'm wondering if the displacer-beast-like-pad at the end would end up looking completely wrong holding a scimitar...
I'm wondering if the tangled trunks are ... you know... handy. Imagine wandering around with your primary manipulators constantly tangled!
They could always extrude the pads the way a slug/snail extrudes it's eyestalks, giving them just enough grip at any moment.

Carborundum - Hi. Sorry I'm geting to this party so late. A couple humble questions... are you still taking requests? Do you do science fantasy as well?
@Set: I've sketched the drone and warrior again - didn't have time for the leader. I was thinking of giving them progressively more slender ...caps... the smarter they got. What do you think - of the sketch and the idea :)
@Pax: Wow, never thought about it! I never really thought I could draw well enough to get a request! I mean, mushrooms and tentacles are one thing, I'm not exactly great at people. I'll try anything as long as the expectations aren't high!

ok... mm what do you think about this:
a creature with an spider-like torso but made of cristal and stone, it has 8 short wooden legs that can carry it for short distances, its head is tiny compared to the body, but its fangs are pretty much poisonous (also a bit acid).
the detail is that when its unoving it just looks like a rock or crystal with some branches around it... and since it can't move too quickly, it uses a secundary weapon... from the wooden legs it can vines with thorns that lash around it capturing anything in a range of about 30 feets, the thorns have paralising poison, so once a prey/victim is paralised it brings it to its mouth to eat slowly... the prey/victim almost always dying after the first bite...
the crystal-like spider doesn't eat the meat, just sip all the juices and water fluides of the victim... leavin in its place a crystaliced husk.
so... any chance carburundum or someone else would give her a shot?
Hey just looking through the Posts and artwork and i can honestly say im loving everything here. Good artwork of various levels and some wonderful descriptions. Just wanted to say Good Job and wonderful stuff :)!
Heat Emanates from this Colossal creature in waves, its Obsidian carapace jagged and cracked, a reddish orange glow seeping through. Veins of mithril seem to run throughout its body; As it moves forward bits of molten rock fall off of it melting the ground around you, its body moving and shifting around it. its multi-segmented mouth is covered in jagged teeth like protrusions. With a terrifying roar it releases a jet of Terrible heat and molten rock.
Something i made a while back, unfortunately i don't have the original description for it. Originally supposed to be used for a High level campaign a friend of mine was running at phoenix con.
Would be nice to have someones artistic interpretation of it, hopefully ill be able to find the original stat block for it (think it was around CR 34; It was able to create magma elementals, had a nasty breath weapon along with several other abilities [SR, Spell-like abilities, etc.])
It was a lot of fun to make, and see used in play :)
Cheers! Glad you like it - I've loved reading so much of your stuff - the channeling flavour and the alchemists notes - inspiring! =D
Those splotches were supposed to be kind of pits but a quick cross-hatch doesn't do them justice. Google > pictures> morel and then the first one. I'd never heard of a morel so that was my inspiration :)

taken, expect it within a week, so check back every so often.
Argh! I was only joking :-)
Coupla questions - what colour is it? Is it translucent/ transparent or just ... rocky? And how big is it? How long are the legs etc?
And as for the magma behemoth beast - I was messing about with that a little too, though I didn't get far. Wel, I did three or four versions before deciding to ask...
What does it look like? (Apart from big and hot, and with a segmented mouth, that is.) I mean, has it a recognizable shape for us Earthlings? Is it a big ... worm, armadillo, spider, blob, toad, whale, centipede, kangaroo, platypus...? Is it like a Xorn or an Earth Elemental or a Dragon? Has it no form, does it change form? Anything?
I fancy scribbling something but it's be nice to know how you visualize it.
I always imagined something like the sandworms from dune, or kinda like a purple worm with all the other stuff on top :). And its like if ya took an earth elemental and added a fire elemental, put a purple worm in their, then threw in a really bad attitude lol.
Sorry hope that helps a little, like i said this is mainly from memory so. But hopefully all that helps a little

mmm it depends on the bred.. but most are crystaline... green most of the times to lose themselves in the folliage and to confound people with a valuable mystical green crystal that exist in my setting, or will, one of this days :P
mm size... when I saw it in my mind i was thinking in medium size... meaning about 1 meter in diameter and half of that of heigt, those would be the nromal ones... the dangerous for adventurers will be the big ones... the ones that confound with boulders, about a meter or metter and a half when not standing... standing i think it would add another 30 cms, 2 or 3 meters indiameter
in RPG terms it would become a monstrosity of 4 squares.
legs, not to long, but sturdy, segmented in 2 parts for mobility, this creature is not supposed to move much or with speed, and its belly woudl be actually quite soft, quile its back (crystal one) will be quite sturdy for defense.
Cool drawing you guys. As always, keep rolling those high profession(artist) checks!
I need some dinosuars for this game, and I don't want the players to no about them(hence the alias). Based on Jurrasic Park game, a few raptors, a T-rex feeding, a swarm of the little ones, and a raptor almost invisible in the jungle's undergrowth. Some of the nicer dinosaurs would be greet too. Once the player characters are set, a picture of them would be cool too. To whoever decides to take thi comission, thanks in advance. If no one decides to take it, I'll se google.
Very nice! Can I get a copy? The wall of kobolds needs more truescales! :)
A copy?
A print? A signed copy? I'm not a patron for Halls of the Mountain King, but I likes me dem kobolds, and the wall hungers for more art. :)
Oh! I can make it available for printing on DeviantArt but those are quite expensive. I'd be honored to send o a signed copy or something ;) Shoot me an email and maybe we can work something out!
