I'm going to be a dad :)
Congrats start sleeping now!!! I am following this advice as well right now since my wife and I are having twins. I wish you the luck we had with my son. Aside from feedings he slept through the night from day 3 on. Good Luck!
I think I saw a kestrel flying over the house today. If only I'd had a thick glove and a piece of meat attached to string (or whatever they use).
Might have worked :)
Flying a Harris Hawk counts of one of my best 'good things'
I caught a kestrel with a sweaty t-shirt once.
Family had a farm; a little pair of kestrels had kids every year up under the ceiling of this outbuilding. The young were trying to fly, flopping around on the ground, and my dog picked one of them up.
I told him to put it down and he did. I drew off my shirt, threw it on the kestrel so it couldn't do me up with that beak and those talons, and stuck him or her in a card board box and drove it to this lady who takes care of injured birds and whatnot.
She brought it back out in a week; it wasn't hurt. She held it up on her finger like a parrakeet. It called to it's mom, the mom called back, then it flew up there on the telephone wire next to mom.
Badass.
*disclaimer*
kids, don't go messing with raptors. It's dangerous, and it's probably against the law. I wouldn't have touched the kestrel, but for I thought it was injured, so I figured I wouldn't get in trouble with the law if I ended up talking to smokey and he asked "what's in the box?"

I'm still alive, unharmed, another day in Mosul. And the weather has cooled considerably thanks to the rain. It was a nice change from the hundred degree weather.
....and the kids are actually being nice to eachother! :D
Are you sure they haven't been replaced by alien duplicates?
Thought occured to me, still a Good Thing. ;)
Just watch out when they bring home pods from "art class".

The lock on my door has been broken for a while and my roomates just kind of put up with it until one of them went ahead and fixed it. But it was on too tight or the whole thing was just busted, so we would get locked in. I volunteered to handle it; called a locksmith and they said it would be $300 to fix it and I could bill my landlord. So I did the smart thing and gave the guy the service charge and found my super's number buried in the lease. Called the guy at noon, five second phone conversation, I get home and the door is good as new. Should have just called him from the beginning, but I'm an idiot and it wasn't like any of my other roomates had his number or looked for his number and it's not like my landlord gave it to me or anything. I don't know. Got it done, at least. And my roomates can't say I never did anything for them.
This one's cheesy and I'm embarrassed, so I'll spare anybody that doesn't want my weird mushy emotional personal stuff.
Spoiler:
I've been close friends with this girl for a while, we get along really great, but she's also been constantly busy since graduating from college. So tonight I took her out for dinner (and her late birthday) and we caught up, which was really cool. Talked about whatever petty drama is in my life and some serious family stuff she's dealing with. Both of us got stuff off our chests. I walk her to her subway stop, she's talking about what a great time she had, we hug, standard thing. But she's kind of down from things that she's got to handle, so I kissed her on the cheek. Nothing serious, nothing weird. We hug again, a lot longer and I could feel her stomach working like she's sobbing, so I did what I could. Give her some encouragement, remind her that I'm always here for her. She says to me,"You're my hero, sometimes." And I'll be damned if I didn't walk home feeling about ten feet tall. Once in a while, I manage to do just the right thing for the occasion.

::manly hug:: GO FOR IT!! Just don't linger in the friend zone for long.

I don't know, I've been in the friend zone for a good six years now and it's not a bad place. I'm not pushing anything, especially when she's got a lot to deal with.

Appreciate the Bro Grabs, though.
I was in the *friend zone* for about the same amount of time with my current girlfriend, and I find that it actually helps with the relationship.

Best of luck, James.
I agree with Mr. Shiny. My wife and I were friends for 3 years of college, and we were there for each other when relationships went bad, etc. We both happened to be unhitched during our senior year, so we dated, and now we've been married for almost 19 years.
I see where everyone's coming from, but there came a time in all of your respective relationships(mine included) where you decided to push the envelope. That's all I'm saying- strike when the time is right, but don't force an opening or leap upon an opportunity that isn't there.
My part-time job is being a gopher/dogbody/lunch cook for a former co-worker's 96 yro dad on Mondays & Fridays. His vision is pretty bad, his hearing is fading, and he has early Parkinson's. On Wednesday late morning, he was home alone and fell in the bathroom, breaking his hip. When someone got home from work around 3PMish they found him and took him to the hospital. The hospital put him on pain meds, but didn't IV him till very late Thurday night, so he was dehydrated and his kidneys started to shut down.
This morning, I found out he was sufficiently rehydrated enough for surgery on his hip on Saturday, which went exceptionally well according to the doc. They then transferred him to a rehab facility where he can recover from surgery and get someone who will make him do the work to rehab his hip.
I'm out of a job now, but I'm thrilled that he is doing so well and has such promising prospects.

Wow. Being that healthy at 96 is really a gift. I hope he recovers well.
Meeting Yoshiuke Tomino. Coming within a handsbreath of having my picture taken with him. Didn't get his autograph, but I DID enjoy his Keynote Address, and enjoyed the Q and A session. The man is a true perfectionist, and I believe my life has changed for the better after hearing him and his perspective.

I didn't get it; neither did my wife (knock on wood).
Good! The folks I've known who have had it said it wasn't all that bad (relative to other flu viruses). Did they have a rough time of it?
Son-6-didn't know he had it.
Daughter-4-danced around like DeeDee from Dexter's lab the whole time.
Daughter-2-hard fever spikes for two days. 103, 104, not a fun time, but no trip to the e.r. Very very scary though.

Who is that? (emphasis mine)
Yoshiuki(sp mine) Tomino is the creator of Mobile Suit Gundam, Brain Powerd, Triton of the Sea(his first work), Brave Raideen, Voltes V and a number of other anime from the 70's through to today. He is my personal hero, and I am honored to say I have met him twice. You can read up more on him here.
