Hey Moorluck, do you guys ever use phosgene or hemotoxins for exterminating rodents? What kind of safety precautions do you use to ensure the gas doesn't get into people's homes?
We don't use gases, it's got to many varibles. the safest way to handle rodents is with bait blocks, which we place in tamper resistant boxes that require a special key to open.

Now I see why you asked. The use of gases to exterminate yard rodents, i.e. moles, voles, etc, is a tricky matter, it works, but if not handled properly can result in things like this. To be honest when it comes to burrowing rodents, I recomend the old impaling traps. You just have to find out which tunnels are active when you place them. As for the gases, different states have different regulations, SC disallowed the use of them about 20 years ago because our ground moisture levels make it unsafe to do so.
The case in the article seems like an unfortunate, but blamless tragedy. For it to have gotten into the home I would guess that there is a crack in the foundation or a simular vent point that leads to the home.

The arrogance of that poster is really beginning to annoy me.

All I can go by is the article presented. I don't see where he says they altereed procedure, it's not unusual to try a lower hazard grade pesticed/rodenticide first. I feel for the family and the technician. He will always wonder if there would have been a way to prevent this from happening. I am glad to see the company is standing behind him though, it's very tempting to rake a person over the coals for things they had no control over.
