It's Friday! Let's start the weekend by doing something nice for autistic children! A few years ago the numbers were 1 in 150ish kids were autistic, today those numbers are closer to 1 in 66! There's a lot of children, teens and adults out there with autism and helping spread knowledge of this affliction is very important. Let's make a difference!

[/end Sally Strother's-like pitch]

The ads for Autismspeaks.org (with Toni Braxton and Ernie Els) I hear rather often on my favourite online radio say 1 in 110... I wonder where the different groups get their statistics from.

*bump*

It could be that there's now a push to include people with an Asperger's diagnosis in the Autism group. (People with asperger's are generally higher-functioning than your "typical" autistic person.)

I might have missed it, Fakey, but where is this walk? If it's around OKC i'm sure my mother would be interested...she's an OT who specializes in autism spectrum disorders.

" I only believe the statistics I forged myself" (attributed to Sir Winston Churchill). I guess it depends on what you count as autistic.

P.S.: bump

Wilmington, Delaware. And yup, there are all kinds of figures out there due to inconsistent records and with how wide the net is for "Autism Spectrum Disorder", I personally believe that there should be some separation of the different types myself-if only so awareness to the more focused aspects can be concentrated on. Also so that therapies and such can be more refined for certain grouping, like Asperger's. My son has a couple of kids in his class with Asperger's and it's a totally different thing to me yet it still gets lumped into Autism in most cases.

Anyhow, here is a link to the website for fund raising and you can explore their site(hopefully) after donating to my team....;P

Be Green. Support a walk.

Alright guys, my team has fallen into 3rd place. I am only $75 dollars behind the #1 team and $45 behind the 2nd place team!
A bunch of people tossing in donations of $5 or so would be more than enough to help us get into 1st place!
Donating is safe, easy and quick on the website I've set up through Autism Delaware. Here is the link again.
For just the cost of a couple green beers that you may have had recently you can help autistic children feel like part of the community, the parents of autistic children to learn about options for their childrens well-being and education, earn a tax deduction for next years taxes, and feel really good about doing a great deed.
What a deal!
Thanks to all that have donated and to all that will. You guys have been great so far!

It'll make you feel great to help out a good cause...bump...

Someday I really need to meet up with you, Zomb, especially since you are only in Phillytown which is around an hour- hour and a half away. You are really a great dude. Thanks for all the bumps. Someday we shall toss dice and drink beer and it will be good.

Got another donation here! Thanks all.
We are so far, with myself and the other family members that are collecting donations, up to almost $3,000!!! We are doing a fantastic job and out of around 50 teams mine is firmly seated in 2nd place! I am proud of the support my fellow Paizites have shown.
We still have a good week of fundraising left though and there are 2 teams looking to outdo us and that pesky Church of Christ that is ahead of us to try to put the beatdown on, so come on! It's easy, safe and a good way to help out a great cause! Help us to end this drive with a bang!
Luke's Parade of Hope!
Even just a couple of dollars makes a huge impact.
Thanks all!

You rock, Giant! Thanks for the help.

LAST DAY TO DONATE BUMP!!!
Here is the link again. Help out a great organization that makes life easier for kids and families of autism. Just a couple bucks to feel great and help out? It's a great deal, and even the smallest donation is a great help. Many raindrops it takes to fill the barrel![/end Yoda]
The walk begins Saturday (tomorrow) at 9:30AM.

So, how did it go, Fake Healer?

taig wrote:

Just Luke's Parade of Hope alone had 44 walkers show up, and raised around $5,000 in total! Al together there was about 60-65 teams and I believe we ended up firmly in 3rd! It was wonderful and all together Autism Delaware got roughly $65-70,000! The final numbers aren't posted yet so that is my own estimate based on actual numbers and how many on my own team showed up with cash donation that didn't apply to the website totals, but I am also being very conservative in my estimate...

All in all a great time with much laughter and happiness. I even reconciled with my brother that I hadn't talked to in years due to a falling out. It was an epic day.
I'll post some pics later....
Thanks again to all who supported our cause, you all made this happen!

Glad it was awesome!
