Well, after seeing the latest reports, I've got to apologize for my part.

bygones....I'll take this all as a lesson in sensitivity, being in Dallas, Tx with young children, kinda next to ground zero.

I pray for the people in Mexico. What a horrible thing.

We're not all gonna die just most of Africa, Asia and Central America.
US and Canada as well as most of Europe will only suffer 2% to 3% fatality rate similar to the last swine flu pandemic.

Heathy: Sorry if it looked like I was making light of the situation. I was actually offended by the OP as well, and was using a bit of comedy to lighten the thread. If he thinks he has some sort of immunity all I can say is that karma is a biotch.

As to 2-3% being 'better' in a population of 350,000,000 US that's still 7-12 million dead. Hardly a laughing matter.

Meh... I'm over it; I dig where you're coming from, dude.
I've read a bunch about it, and I'm more worried about the people in Mexico right now.

We've got Tamiflu. Those people have nothing.

Twist your minds with fear!

Come On! Let's all sing along!!!

Spoiler:
Disease! disease! spreading the disease.
With some help from captain trips,
Hell bring the world down to his knees.
Power, yes power! hell show them all his power.
It pulses through his ice cold blood,
A whole world to devour!
Bridge--hes seeing, hes calling, his legacy hes spawning.
Hes coming, corrupting, among the living!
Murder! murder! commit cold blooded murder!
Like nazis during world war two, they only follow orders.
Hatred! hatred! a crucifix is your bed,
Once he turns his eye on you, youll be better off dead!

Im the walkin dude, I can see all the world!
Twist your minds with fear, Im the man with the power.
Among the living, follow me or die!
Man, fights man! divided they cant stand!
United, they can battle back, and make him force his hand!
Fear, yes fear! his end is growing near,
He didnt count on mans good faith,
And their will to persevere.

Follow me or die!
Fire! hot fire!! purge the world with fire!!
Damnation is the price hell pay, for an evil mans desire!
Good, versus evil! the stand to vanquish evil!
Man can only live one way, that place right in the middle.

Follow me or die!
Among among among among among among
Among among among among among among!

Not to mention the drug cartel violence. God must be really pissed at Mexico.

Anti-piracy measures are getting crazy. Even death won't stop us from getting our pdfs.

According to CNN, there has only been one serious case in the U.S. and that patient is fine. However, a bunch of Aussie and Kiwi tourists may have been exposed during a trip to Mexico. Zombies down under anyone?

Well, we've got enough for health workers -- not enough for everyone by a long shot. And you have to start it within 48 hrs of infection; even if we had enough, could we distribute it that fast? And how many people would take their doses "as a precaution" when they weren't sick, thus speeding the virus' path to immunity? I'm just hoping we get the "mild" version that the U.S. cases have been so far, and not the "kills 7% and thus is 3x deadlier than Spanish flu" version in Mexico...

This coming right after Ike, it's going to take a lot to convince me to stay in Houston, once the economy recovers... ;)

If I can offer some comfort : this kind of H1N1 flu kills due to the over response of a healthy immune system. Your daughter is safer than most.

My son is in for surgery on Friday - we always worry about stuff even if we know the risks are minimal.

What is it now? Cases in CANADA, NEW ZEALAND, AUSTRALIA, BRITAIN, SPAIN, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and 86 dead in Mexico...and spreading.

IT will Go Pandemic in South America, Mexico city, and Rio where millions of people live in the worst possible conditions will turn into Necropoli.

THE USA (if it survives the ten million Mexican running its borders to escape the plague - and stop the Migration across to Africa of the Population) will inherit a Dead South America. I tell you now that within a year the US-MEXICO Border Patrols will feel the loss of Personel due to Plague exposure.

Thanks for the update, Chicken Little.

Point in fact, ~36,000 people in America will die.

Can we declare the end of days now?

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Tales, Battles Case Subscriber)

Right. From Influenza. Swine flu or no swine flu, right?

Exactly.

The internet is so convenient. It use to be the doooooooom-singers had to make their own sign and walk around and stuff. Now all Yellowdingo has to do is type.

Pats CF on the head

I find it amazing that with that other more deadly situations don't get the same coverage.

Cigarettes
The new lost productivity estimate when combined with smoking-related health care costs, which was reported at $75.5 billion in 1998, exceeds $167 billion per year in the United States.

The report also finds that during 1997-2001 an estimated 438,000 premature deaths occur each year as a result of smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke. In comparison, approximately 440,000 smoking-related deaths were estimated to have occurred annually from 1995-1999.

AIDS
The US death rate among people with AIDS has also remained relatively stable in recent years; there were an estimated 14,561 deaths in 2007.

GUN Violence

The United States accounted for 45 percent of the 88,649 gun deaths reported in the study, the first comprehensive international scrutiny of gun-related deaths.

The gun-related deaths per 100,000 people in 1994 by country were as follows:

* U.S.A. 14.24
* Brazil 12.95
* Mexico 12.69
* Estonia 12.26
* Argentina 8.93
* Northern Ireland 6.63
* Finland 6.46
* Switzerland 5.31
* France 5.15
* Canada 4.31
* Norway 3.82

As a Canadian, I am ashamed of our low ranking. I promise we will attempt to do better in the future. Send us some of your spare bullets and I think we can vault up to 7th place within a year or two. Finland can bite me.

Yeah, but...but....don't y'all just beat eachother to death with hockeysticks instead?

No, they use poutine for that.

Dayum. I didn't know what that was.

THAT would do gangbusters in Texas.

Wait, do people ever put bacon in poutine?

Probably. The local BBQ joint does this awesome dish that's a layer of fries, barbecued shredded beef slathered in sauce with a layer of cheddar on top.

I've had cheese fries before, but not with gravy. Gravy + cheese + bacon = culinary perfection. We have discovered ambrosia, theobroma, soma, call it what you will. The way to apotheosis is now open!

The BBQ thing sounds good, Lilith, but it's missing two of the greatest food stuffs that Prometheus brought down to us with fire. Now the only question is, what beer would you be fit to wash this stuff down? Something hoppy? A really good IPA?

Man, that poutine stuff looks tasty! It just a shame I'd have to fly half way around the world in order to try some :(

I'm sure you could ask for bacon and extra BBQ sauce. :P

As for beer, nothin' wrong with a good lager or pilsner. Not hoppy though - I don't think the bitterness would go well with the 'Q.

I saw a place on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives that does chili cheese fries using a chili verde made with smoked pork butt and monterey jack cheese. I'm going to try making that at home.

All hail the Triple D. I keep a list handy of places I want to go when I travel. :D

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Tales, Battles Case Subscriber)

I'm pairing it with Poutine a la Mairkurion! (Poutine with broken pieces of bacon.) I'm pretty meh on pilsners. (I agree on your pairing with BBQ sauce, however -- in that case, I'd go with Shiner bock.)
