I, for one, have never had a pretty back. (sniff)

Yes. Yes I am. And I am not ashamed. You can't hold me back, Jade!

If you're going to go for a body tattoo, I wouldn't suggest your torso. The body changes alot as you age and the front usually grows more than the back. One too many twinkies or a pregnancy will stretch that tattoo all over the place. I actually have several tattoos and the one on my back caught me a hottie. ;)

I have heard as much. I once saw an interview with the band Every Time I Die. The lead guitarist was explaining how before he joined the band, he had gotten 'hard core' tattooed on his stomach. Then he got fat. I remember him saying something like "It used to look large, bold, and impressive. Now it just looks like my navel has a label."

And then if you lose the weight it turns to mud! I'll never be getting a frontal tat, no way no how!

elitelite wrote:

In my case, more like vanilla pudding. Actually, that's sort of the state it's in now.

I never could get my head wrapped around the concept of physical mutilation and calling “adornment” or “attractive”. I have no “mods” of any kind, don’t even wear any jewelry except for a wristwatch and wedding ring. Don’t ever plan to.

There’s not a picture in the world I like so much that I would want to life with it on my skin for the rest of my life. I have a phobia against needles of all kinds and a taser couldn’t keep me in one place long enough have someone take one or more needles to me.

As for additional holes in my body, no way. My circulatory system is designed to be a closed one; I want to keep it that way. I figure I was born with all the holes I would need for a lifetime. Making extra ones seems like altering the original design and voiding the manufacturer’s warranty. No thanks.

I don’t dye hair. I don’t have haircuts. I don’t even shave. Look at my icon, that’s a reasonably representation of what I really look like (though I really don’t yell that much).

I figure I’m fine the way I am. Changing what I look like outside isn’t going to have any real effect on what I’m really like inside so why bother trying to put up a false front for others. If they can’t take me the way I am, they’re probably not the kind of people I want to be around anyway.

For those that do one or more of the above…have fun.

Lawgiver wrote:

I agree with you completely. The outside usually doesn't change the inside. For some people a tattoo can symbolize a kind of strength though. Something physical that was endured in the process of working through something emotional. There are many reasons people get tats. It's great to hear that you've stayed true to your beliefs. :)

Meh. I'm not afraid of needles. It probably stems from the facts that
a.) I regularly give blood, and
b.) I used to have SEVERE mold allergies, so from the time I was six to the time I was fourteen, I had to have a once-a-week allergy shot (well, three in each arm, but you know what I mean.).

In other words, pain doesn't scare me.

I think the reason I have always wanted mods stems from a deep-seated insecurity. Therefore, I have no problem with 'bettering myself'. I could create a better me.

At least you've never been deep-seeded. Now THAT body mod will give you an insecurity. Well... unless you're so inclined... or reclined... aren't words funny?

Nah, I just don't dig them on me, but I think they look cool on other people. I go through phases with appearance. I grow my hair to be sort of shaggy/a bit above my shoulders, then every year or two I shave it and let it grow back. I don't got to the hairdresser becaue my hair grows so freaking fast it's impractical and expensive. As luck would have it today is one of the days I am about to cut it all off...

R-Type, I've been thinking lately too that I want to start wearing a suit and a watch and generally dressing like a fashion plate, just to see what would happen. My whole adult life I've been a scruffy guy with a leather jacket (my smart arse brother calls me Neil Gaiman Jr) and I think I want to see what it's like being on the other side.

You and me both. I'm uninked.

At present, I have 21 piercings (down from 23).

My back is tattooed from collar line to below the belt, with part of the design extending down my left leg to the top of my foot. I have another tattoo on the right shoulder.

Additionally, I have a branding in the centre of my chest.

I plan on having the design on my back carried over my ribs and over the shoulders to the collarbone.

I have had my head shaved, a mohawk, a fascist 30's style, and my hair lightened. Right now, my hair's down to below my shoulder blades.

I've toyed with coloured and special effects contact lenses.

Currently, I have dental caps for my lateral incisors and canine teeth, so I could say I have fangs. I'm thinking about getting the canines permanently. My wife has had her canines and lateral incisors permanently crowned - they look like Selene's fangs in Underworld.

Fashionwise, I have gone from t-shirt/jeans, to military uniform, to suits, to punk, to paramilitant wear, to gothwear.

I guess you could say I've dabbled.

Personally, I like necklaces. I've discovered over the years that one can only wear so many at once, though. My current neck adornment is a duo of lanyards from my years at CTY, but I've recently gotten a dragon necklace that looks pretty sweet, so I might switch them out for that. It would be about time too, the lanyards are getting kind of gross.

A note about my personal appearance preferences: I actually don't care how I look. Most of the stuff I try makes me look like a complete and total idiot. I do what I do because I feel like it, and I am still trying to force an identity out of this generic body of mine.

I find it rather attractive when women shave their heads for some reason, even white girls. I'm blazing white myself and when I shaved my head for the first time, I was a bit concerned about an even skin tone. But it looks pretty good now. However, because of my WASP background, I have to cover my dome with suntan lotion as often as possible.

It kind of comes down to head shape, as well.

Generic? You look like something out of Lovecraft, dude.

But no identity in particular jumps out from it. It's just sort of... there. The only real quality I could possably get out of my current form is weirdo (though I do that quite well).

No piercings. I don't wear any jewelry or even wristwatch, I just don't like metal on my skin. Also, my skin seems to scar quite spectacularly (I have couple of surgery scars which look far worse than they should) so chances are that those piercings would turn out to be pretty bad...

No tattoos, so far. I have been toying on the subject of getting one done, preferably on arm (torso, indeed, tends to go to all kinds of directions, so any tattoos there are likely to turn to something out of Dali painting...)

That said, I do like tattoos and piercings on other people, at least in moderation.

My hair length has varied quite a lot over the years, and that is major part of "I want to change how I look" arsenal. Nowadays hair is quite short, though I have had the long hair period when I was younger...and couple of times I have also gone bald (which indeed is great and looks rather nifty, were you a woman or a man).

I dress rather conservatively, and I guess that is how people judge me on first look too. Smart jackets, simple colour schemes (but black in moderation, though). So people probably think I am more boring than I am (and then the reality can come as a shock...). Unfortunately this style, while definitely being me, brings no luck in getting to know those pierced and tattooed guys...

I'm a pretty simple person appearance wise. Long hair (good on other people but i HATE having short hair). only 1 set of ear peircings. I would get more but i am kind of anti pain. I never wanted to get any part of my body other than ears pierced. SOme people look good witht them but not me. I personally cant stand lip piercings. I dress pretty normally (and no I dont mean decked out head to toe in Aeropostale.) I wear what i like regardless of how trendy it is or isnt.

I had my ear pierced once, but stopped wearing it a few years ago. I also used to have a haircut trapped in the 80's, but started shaving my head about 8 years ago. I have clippers and do it myself. I figured I was gonna lose it anyway, so it might as well be on my terms. I have 2 tattoos, one on my ankle (a Fraternity thing), and a moebius strip on my arm.

Eventually, I may have to try and post a picture of myself, but I'm not sure I want to do that to you people.

Pretty boring here. One piercing, at the top of my left ear. No tats – I’ve considered it at times over the years, but rejected it for two main reasons;
One, that there’s no image or symbol or anything that’s so meaningful to me that I want it permanently tattooed onto my body, and
Two, I don’t think a tattoo would look that good on me - I’ve got the pale skin and body hair thing going that another poster mentioned (though I think tattoos look really good on a lot of people, and I really dig tattoos on women).
Okay, and really a third reason too, I’m not so good with pain…
Hair is its natural colour and currently quite short (and perpetually messy – I don’t think I’ve tried to style or comb it in about three or four years). I’ve got reasonably impressive sideburns. Natural eye colour, wear glasses most of the time.

In the early 90’s I went through the whole grunge thing. In the mid to late 90’s I went through a goth stage (thankfully pretty short lived, as I really don’t have the complexion or the hair for it), mainly through trying to meet goth girls. Late 90’s / early 00’s I was into the retro thing, lots of corduroy, felt, funky glasses, shades of brown. (The piercing is left over from the goth stage, though I still usually wear a ring in it. The sideburns are left over from the retro stage, eh, I like 'em, though they probably wouldn't be considered cool).

These days I’m pretty old and settled – jeans, t-shirts and sneakers are the typical uniform, I’ll go for a collared shirt if I have a meeting or something.

That's kinda freaky ... Kahoolin does somewhat resemble Neil Gaiman, and Mr Shiny (or at least his photo) very much does look like a young Johnny Depp.
