I know alot of people have various Electronic tabletop programs like Battlegrounds and Klooge, but I want to know who on the site has Fantasygrounds and whether or not you have actually used it.

I am planning on trying to put together Hollows Last Hope for it and would like to test it sometime in the future. I am not taking enrollment for this now, just trying to guage how many on the site actually have the program and if they have used it yet. I will, in the unseeable future, use this list to try to put together a test group for this.

Thanks all, and feel free to let me know any thoughts you have on the program.

Bump, dammit.

~"WHAP" as the bat hits the man in a skirt across the back of the head~ Now THAT is a bump!

(Nope. Never used it before.)

I have FantasyGrounds and have used it. We have a semi-regular (once a month or so) game going. I like it.

We use Ventrillo for voice chat to go along with the chat window, mostly because everyone but me complained about the thought of typing all of the conversation.

All in all, I think it's great software.

I've been using Fantasy Grounds for over a year to run an Age of Worms campaign weekly, with friends who are scattered around the country (and world). It's a great bit of software that really makes playing d20 D&D at a distance possible. Like any software, it has its quirks, but it doesn't take long to get used to it, and it does almost everything you want pretty smoothly. There's also a very dedicated user group posting on their forums regularly, who are always ready to help out and to provide tips and ideas. Please feel free to get in touch if you've got any more specific questions.

Thanks Callum, I may take you up on the offer.

I know Lilith also has the program but I don't know if/how often she uses it. Wouldn't mind hearing her POV.

FH

Hey all, how much does fantasygrounds cost?
Also how tricky is it to set up etc?

Pricing and Store

I don't have FG2, but I do have FG. It wasn't difficult to set up. I just didn't care too much for the interface, but some of the features were nice. Besides, the pricing at that time was rediculous.

Hmm yes the price does seem a little iffy.

I may try using just a forum, if i can get my hands on some dice rolling code :)

I found out that I can upgrade to v2 for free. So, I decided to look into it more.

Sounds like they have some support from 2e, 3.5e (default), 3.P, and 4e, as well as GURPS, SWSE, WoD, and more (all fan supported). Still no audio chat support.

The tutorials are pretty good. I watched them a couple of times and then dove into transcribing a 4e adventure. Works pretty slick. Unfortunately for 3.5, 4e has superior combat management. Maybe they'll "import" the functionality?

Fantasy Grounds stands apart from its competition by a beautiful interface and impressive tools, too many to list here.
I was considering using it with my group, for our online campaign, but two main factors made me reconsider :

The price : Although i don't mind, my players won't pay for a program. Greedy players :(

The technical aspect : Once again the interface is beautiful, and there are many useful tools, but all this makes the game experience too computerized in my own taste. Also i don't want to prepare everything on my computer, such as NPCs, maps and the rest.

Basically i want my game to stay true to the original table game experience, we just need the computer to connect through internet.
So we are just using Skype for the vocal chat, and for the maps, we are using OpenRPG, just for the option for me to draw maps live, instead of loading them from my hard drive.

But that's just me and it is not a criticism against Fantasy Grounds.
If you and your players don't mind relying on a program, go for it, Fantasy Grounds is a great product.

Never heard of it.
