I've found Merisiel and Seltyiel have their twins (or dead ringers) in a third party's RPG supplement ebooks' previews, while browsing through RPGnow.

Merisiel at
"QUERP - Bestiary" preview page 8
http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=61413

Seltyiel at
"QUERP - Player's Companion" preview page11
http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=63457

I guess these particular illustrations are works by Wayne Reynolds for Pathfinder (if I recall correctly).

Have some of those iconic Pathfinder characters ever been offered to a third party as open or licensed contents?

I'm not sure. Just wondering.

Andoran (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path Subscriber)

They are part of the Community Use package, but I don't believe they are to be used in published material. ESPECIALLY without giving credit where credit is due.

(the preview shows the credits page and show "Illustrations by Jamie Wallis")

And even then I don't think you can charge for something with it in there.

That is definitely Merisiel...

Total ripoff. Time for the old C&D.

Makes me wonder how much of the rest of the book is stolen artwork. Not very bright. "Gee lets steal on of the most commonly used characters from Paizo and drop her in our book!

Taldor (Pathfinder Superscriber)

Someone's about to get in trouble.

That's definitely weak. Powerful weak. : /

The folks at Paizo may not see this thread right away, you should probably e-mail Vic Wertz.

Wise move; I've also flagged the original post to draw attention to the links,

Ha! Wow. Noted! If any two of our iconics would mistakenly stumble into another world, it would TOTALLY be those two. Good eye all!

Release the Dogs of War!

Anyone notice in their preview that they spell Publishing without the H? Cheap rip-off hacks!

Taldor (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

Wow, what a blatant rip-off!

I've sent an email to Vic on this. Hope the third-party publisher has no ill intention and will act properly.

Don't forget me!

I wanted to believe that it was a case of mistaken identity, but that is pretty blatant.

I'm going to war, not a bike race! I'll be too busy fighting to get cold, and why wash my face right before it gets covered in ichor?

I've been trying to fight it, but I think it's part of the stupid wish. Must. resist. urge. to knit. scarf.

We should bring all of our aliases to the fight!

Well, the barbarian picture in one of the links looks an awful lot like the Arnold Schwarzenegger version of Conan (just look at the sword!).

Oh my.. Major rip-off!

THE SHAME!

The cover on that Bestiary is ripped of from Clyde Caldwell, too.

Neat.

I do hope you guys intend to thoroughly own them for doing this.

It shows Jamie Wallis as the sole artist...

Yup...

Wow, I can't believe people are so blatant in their IP theft...c'mon like no one's gonna notice that?

Maybe they don't plan on selling much product.

Or staying in business

Anyone want to take bets that they lay all the blame on the artist?

"We didn't know he was stealing our art! Honest!"

Are these guys a print publisher, or just internet/e-books?

BTW - the typo on their own company name is on the back cover. Nitpicky, but I think it speaks to the company. I can see a typo in a body of text, just not in something as prominent as your brand.

EDIT: google answered my question, British company?, touting themselves via Facebook?, print and e-file, images repeated on their website link to the cheeky buggers

Exactly.

I just hope they're still up in two hours,

so I can get home and see how bad it is myself.

Reminds me of a story I heard a few months ago. There was a family that had a picture taken for their Christmas card. They sent it out and thought nothing of it. Then a family friend was on vacation in Prague and saw the picture being used in an ad for a local grocery store.

After some investigation they found that the ad agency that the store hired led the owner to believe that the picture had been digitally created. Nobody has as of yet figured out how the ad agency got the picture, or if they had been misled by another individual. The family finally made a deal with the store so they could keep using the picture, and the family could be compensated.

(Pathfinder Campaign Setting Superscriber)

Maybe its a marketing ploy. Buy their stuff now before they go out of business. Rare books! Actually something similiar happened with this and Strike Force 7. A reviewer said they plagarized art from a G.I. Joe comic and it turned into a toothless internet fight.

Wow, that is insane. It probably happens all the time, how often would they get caught out like that? It's indecent like spammers taking advantage of the elderly and foolish.

Same here. That sight seems to be blocked at my work. But then, pretty much everything is except Paizo. Perhaps because Paizo is considered a publisher as opposed to a game store. *shrug*

Sorry 'bout that... I was just coming back to edit out the link myself.

Silver Crusade (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

I think at this point Paizo will take whatever steps they deem necessary.

The best thing the rest of us can do is sit in our own forums and laugh at that other company from a distance.

(RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8)

Well someone's on the ball,

They're already pulled down.
