As with DA, I just didn't have anything to say. I know, I know, that's hard to believe, yet there it is. ;-)
EDIT: Seriously, I check this thread every time I check the other. I might not post in either, but I see them both at least twice most days. Some days, like yesterday, I might be able to check hourly.

That happens with all my games. Posting dies down in here once the game is started. There may be some times you want to strategize here instead of in the play thread but no real need has come up yet.

Oh, I understand -- when I check as often as I do some days, I wonder if anyone else is still out there at all and have to remind myself that it's only been X since the last post. Perspective is a funny thing.
All I was trying to say is I check here regularly -- I cycle through all of the threads I have a stake in each time I log in, game and ooc -- so if you have something you want me to see, this is as good a place as any.

Ah, so then you are as eager and impatient a PbP'er perhaps as I am myself? ;-)
For me, being stuck all the way here in beautiful, sunny, Cancun, sniff, sniff, other than CRPGs on my laptop, this is the only interpersonal D&D action I can get. So when I go to too long without my PbP fix I start jonesing. = D

!? Always up for a scrap, but I hope the fist isn't coming from Korian's friend. His intention had specifically been to bring his companions, new and old, to the establishment of a close, personal friend of his. His comments and teasing barbs were designed for such. He would not have spoken so of the business of a stranger. Being born among the fierce desert tribes, Korian would be well aware that to speak so to a stranger would be a good way of inviting oneself to be killed.
@Rimrock: Thanks! I totally did not know it was up. I'm assuming we're using the same OOC thread there? And apologies for the thread-jack Tarren.

Sykala is wary of Neferet only because she is being flirtatious, she could care less that she may have some motives driven by the artifacts you have picked up at the auction. She really doesn't seem to have terribly much interest in the artifacts themselves either. Thus her limited interactions with and conversation with Neferet. I check the boards fairly frequently and I am sure Sykala will have much more to do and say once we get out of the city but for now I am thoroughly enjoying everything everyone else is doing. Please feel free to take your time and she'll jump in periodically.

Well so what do you guys think? HOw best to go about getting the mask?
Off the top of my head, some ideas are:
-Come right out and tell the Crook Bearer why we want it, and make a deal that if he gives it too us, he shall gain a share of whatever we find
-Try and trick him into giving it to us somehow
-Intimidate/force him to give it too us
-Sneak back later and try to steal it
....I think the first is my fav so far, but I'd be willing to go with any. And I'm more than willing to hear some better ideas!

I suspect that 1 is the best choice -- he might well have other resources that would improve our odds of success, and it seems pretty certain that he's going to be interested in anything we can find and bring back.

Perfect, and so Korian has cast his two EE's on Ovirid and Asim. And of course Mage Armor on himself and Jinx
I'm wondering how Dark Arioch and Khaladon feel about casting endure elements on journey adventures. Sykala did it during "I Swallowed a Bug" and Khaladon is doing it here.
I ask as a potential adventure writer. Is it annoying? Does it need to be taken into account in other ways?
Just curious.

As a player, I don't find it annoying at all, it is helping out the team. Which only helps all of us in the long run.
I imagine that a mage/wizard character though may find it...a drain on their resources to have to take care of fellow travelers in such a way. But this would depend largely on the personality, and perhaps alignment of the caster in question. It would also of course be much more of an issue for low-level casters than it would be for high level ones , simply because of the number of spell slots one has.
I think both Korian and I would be in agreement though that his using of two of his very limited spell slots was a necessary...inconvenience, in this circumstance that would have would have been completely unnecessary had we simply practiced proper preparation for this journey. As the party's resident wizard, (and as Korian is only as smart as I make him ;-) I can only blame myself for this oversight.

Alright, having trouble deciding what to do in this situation. Sykala pretty much can stay in elemental form for 12 hours a day. Pretty much the entire time we are exploring and it makes a whole lot of sense to do so for self protection. However, that being said, she is somewhat limited in her ability to socially interact, which is a big part of these pbps. So, what do the rest of you think? Should I keep her in elemental form and be a pretty boring companion or transform her back so she can speak but be more vulnerable and not flying?

It might not be as fun, but I think she'd be better served to remain in elemental form. She's able to hear/understand us, correct? We could work out a simple code based on her movement for straightforward questions.
Might be more fun, actually, to work through those challenges.

Tarren, can we assume that we've at least managed to work out a simple yes /no pattern for Sykala? Bob up and down for yes, side to side for no, etc?

Yeah, I think that much is fairly easy for her to do. Just no complex conversations, on her side anyway. She understands you all just fine.

I've got no problem with that. For more complicated messages I would ask Sykala to describe what she does, not why she's doing it.

Hey DA, referring back to your earlier post, I Just now remembered (silly me) that I myself have been playing for the last few months a PC who hardly talks at all much of the time. My cute/savage little druid Ali (who, I must admit, I did model somewhat after Sykala actually : )
Since she has the Shapeshifting variant (from PHB II) she can transform as often as she likes (as a free action too it seems- but is very limited in forms) and up until today, I think it's been several weeks, maybe as much as 3 months Real Time since she's spoken and she's managed to get along just fine. I've had a ton of fun with her, so again, no worries! ;-)
PS If you or anyone wants to check her out, she's actually a homebrewed class I made up called a Wild Druid. It's seemed to have worked out pretty well and I'm quite fond and proud of her. I'm of course always open though to any comments, ideas or criticisms.

Oh, it's not so much that she isn't speaking as that in a PBP if you don't say anything for awhile people wonder if you have disappeared. At a table they still see you there happily rolling dice and whatnot. Every once in awhile I'll throw in the "she is still following behind everyone" post but that gets repetitive real quick.
I'm happy to hear that she inspired a nature sister of your own and that your having a blast. It's funny that yours even speaks less than Sykala. She still is my favorite PBP character to date.
P.S. Where can I check your druid out at?

I have to admit that I have enjoyed Sykala a lot, also. I followed the "I Swallowed a Bug" adventure for quite a while (before RL made me cut back to just the stories I was participating in).
As for "heartbeats" - she could always blow someone's kilt over their head every once in a while... what? you're character doesn't wear a kilt?

She's great! I love the fact that she is a gnome and it looks as if you have been playing her for some time now. One thing that ended up giving me a very fun facet of Sykala's character to play off of was the selection of her domain (which in her case is Air). This has inspired me to want to play a druid of every other domain because I think they would be so very different. It looks though like you have a lot of great unique stuff to play off of with Ali. Looks like a very fun character.
Nice to hear so many enjoyed her adventures and story so far :) Hopefully AinvarG, you stayed with us to catch her sinking of The River Queen. Tarren choking on drink - priceless. Truly a shining moment ;) Though, fairly often, what she does surprises me to (I try to get into her mindset - which is very different than mine). Just realized that I am going on 2 years gaming with Tarren. Thanks for the great adventures so far Tarren and hope you plan to continue for a loooong time.
I have to say though that Korian, Ovirid, and Asim are stealing the show on this one. Keep it up, I am enjoying every moment.
Perhaps sometime down the road I'll have a chance to meet some of you at a con or something. Not hitting any this year but planning to 2011.

I don't do cons in general -- too much RL. I lasted up to the sinking of the River Queen, yes -- good thing I wasn't drinking, I might have sprayed my keyboard.
As for Ovirid in this game, I don't know that he's stealing the show. I'm trying to put more character in his character because he's pretty much been useless from a rules standpoint. One attack (which was a beauty) and lots and lots of failed social rolls and unrolled interactions. CHA 6, what can I say?

She surprises me too. It has given me a good excuse to bring Esteban back in ... hunted by the Aspis, he's taking the long way after that gold if enough of these legionnaires live to help him.

I do plan to continue for a long time. I'll be going to South Korea for two weeks in April and will have to slow down my activity during those two weeks. I will try to post frequently until then so that we can get deeply into this.

Another blasted 1. That TPK we narrowly avoided at the tabletop last week? We came back, rested and ready for the BBG this week. Fortunately, the preparations and foreknowledge from the near-death experience were enough to overcome my rolling three (3!!!) ones for attack rolls and a dozen for damage rolls -- including four of them to get the minimum possible critical damage with a greatsword. O_o Thought I would share just so you know my credentials as a member of the hard-luck club are genuine (this is the same ranger that gutted himself with the greatsword on a critical fumble and got reincarnated that I've discussed with DA previously).

That sounds like my last Character I had in Red Hand of Doom. I rolled 2 rolls over 10 the whole night (11 and 18 - both of which were attack rolls) and my character died as a result. The new Character I'd only had for 3 sessions. I had to play out the remaining 4 sessions with somone else's character as there was no real point in making a new one simply to finish the adventure (and also especially since we were in the middle of the Fane of Tiamat... how do you explain finding a new Character wandering around down there... :/)

LMAO, I would love if some MIT science team or something would do a study some day on the 'so-called randomness' of die rolls, whether they be online or with real dice. I am absolutely convinced that there are other forces at play other than pure 'luck' (whatever that really is anyway)
I have several theories as to what the forces that affect events of 'random chance' may be, but I'd be fascinated to see an in depth study on the subject.
