GUYS, so sorry, my computer died last week and I haven't had much time to get to a computer in the mean time. We will be continuing as soon as my computer is up and running. Hopefully that will be tonight. Please bear with me, your continuing patience is appreciated =)

Maybe it's catching, mine died Sunday night, and I've had to format the system disc and reinstall it.

Welp I haven't heard from Antal in a tenday...I'll assume he's not coming back if I don't hear from him in another few days. Got my computer fixed(knock on wood!) so should be a pretty regular posting schedule again. I think I liked having five players, so I'll probably try to find a replacement for him next week if we don't hear back. Otherwise...game on!

Antal,

Halfling avatar

Sorry, my posting schedule has been kind of sparse the last couple of weeks. Been really busy trying to find a new job. Had a couple of prospects but nothing yet. Will post some more later in the game thread.

caith,

A 14 Elf Guard Captain HIGHR avatar

Oooh what a night...just wanted to apologize for the lack of quality posts lately. This stupid board system always times out and I lose enormous amounts of data. I usually try to keep a pasted copy as a backup somewhere but lost that today too so...after 3 rewrites the quality tends to degrade...anyways. Hopefully we will be getting back to a regular daily post schedule, and get things moving again!

I also wanted to comment on experience...I am doing a customized experience system that plays off of Paizo's streamlined CR system, so I must again stress that spoilered information is to be treated like a DM note.

caith,

A 14 Elf Guard Captain HIGHR avatar

Ugh all that and now my power went out on Thursday! It might be another day before my power is back on..bear with me please!

caith,

Hay guys, just wanted to pop in and let you all know that the game hasn't "died", not yet. I want to bring the first episode to a close soon but I have had a project going on IRL and just moved and am remodeling a new home. Sorry for the lack of postage, but I hope to get back on track after next week. Hopefully you guys still check in occasionally, and I thank you if you are still patiently participating.

Its okay Caith. Real life comes first, we all understand that. I'm glad to hear that you are alright and were just busy. I look forward to the restart of the game whenever you are free again good sir.

caith,

Hey everybody! Things are startin to calm down here in RL, so I'm hoping to get this game fired back up. A few things...

First, I'd like to know who's on board at this point. I am hoping to get started in the beginning of September, and be posting at least once a weekday. If I haven't heard back by Sep 1, I will assume you've moved on(and understandably so!). We will look for new players if necessary, and go from there!

Second, I am hoping to fast forward a bit, and take a faster pace with the game in the future, and will be making some simple changes to accommodate that. More game mechanic type things will be happening automatically, but on the other side the players will be given more freedom to define their own actions and surroundings, according to a few basic guidelines.

Third, if you haven't already, I am hoping to switch to the release version of Pathfinder, which I recommend(PDF is 10 bucks! I am not in any way sponsored or affiliated with Paizo =P) picking up as there are quite a few changes, and it is a very nicely made product. If everyone can manage to do that we can use the latest ruleset, otherwise this game will continue to use the Beta ruleset.

I apologize for my sudden lack of attention to this game, and appreciate the time that all of you did put in, as it was a very enjoyable experience for me! Thanks guys, hope to hear from you soon.

This was our out of character discussions thread for that game. Also we kind of jumped the gun on RPing and started early in this thread.

im still in, if thats ok!

Tyr Thordinsjon,

As I posted in the other thread. I am still slightly confused as to which thread is supposed to be doing what.

I have this character being worked up. Slowly plugging away and spending the starting money on equipment. Feats are worked out, just need to factor in the saves and such.

I think this thread if for players who want to discuss/develop their characters further (once accepted into the game). Or perhaps to share with other players in the same Shattered Shores game :D since this already delves into the Play-by-post.

Whereas the other thread (Gamer Connection) remains public for people to exhibit interest and share queries and clarification before considering character application into Scattered Shores.

I hope this is accurate enough.

*crosses hand to chest ,bows* My thanks indeed Aikuchi. I shall endeavor to straighten out my book marks and keep my future posts in the right place.

Precisely, the titles of the threads are pretty self-explanatory. The recruitment thread is there to find me players, and make sure people understand what they are getting into, as well as to provide some basic information for people creating characters. The OOC thread is for feedback, player ooc discussion, hijinks, and for the answering of any questions that the players might have. I will try to get around to summarizing alot of the information that is here but a few things:

I trust you to make your characters the right way, I sometimes double check if I'm feeling rulesy. I appreciate having all of your pertinent information math'ed out in advance, both for my benefit and your own. Some great examples are Antal and Havrin. Attack bonuses for different weapons, commonly used ranged touch spells, and all of your ACs, flat footed and whatever. I also require that a few common skills(Diplomacy, Stealth, Perception) are lain out, but any skills you have ranks in I appreciate them being fully calculated out.

Tyr: I trust you to use the abilities your class levels entitle you to, and nothing more. My rule is generally if you can pull something on me and I don't notice it shame on me. If it's blatant disregard for the rules well...shame on you.

Tyr Thordinsjon,

Pathfinder Cover 5 avatar

*bows head*

Fear not, my character shall always be in the best of intentions. Even should I sometimes make a mistake in applying rules. For which I apologize in advance.

Caith

I'd like to apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused.

Over the weekend, I'd taken stock of my workload and realize that I would not be able to invest as much as I'd like to the PbP game: Scattered Shores. Although, I would love to keep tab and read whats happening to the world because the concept interests me; I would be doing a disservice to the the other players and yourself if I could not find the time to contribute often.

Thus, I'd like to withdraw my application. My halfling fighter/sling-mistress would have to draw the bullet another day.

Thank you for being kind for considering and accepting my application.

Tyr Thordinsjon,

I do also apologize for not finishing Tyr yet. RL taking up a mite too much time.

I am still very interested though.

Howdy All!

I just saw that this was starting back up, and was wondering if I could jump back in. Caith, if you still have room I would love to continue, and I can update Havrin to the final Pathfinder RPG rules within the next day. However, I understand if the game is full and look forward to reading the continuation.

Best Regards!

Then it is indeed fortuitous that I had pulled out due to time commitment issues. :D

Although he had closed applications for the game - I'm (somewhat) certain you could take over my seat as well as having the advantage of having a already established character that that only needs an update!

Of course, all final decisions are with Caith but this does seem timed well!

---

Havrin Stahl,

The-Cinderlander avatar

BTW: Havrin is now updated to final Pathfinder RPG rules (just in case I'm still in the game! Rangers didn't have too many changes.)

Best Regards!

caith,

A 14 Elf Guard Captain HIGHR avatar

You are just in time Havrin, good to have you back. It would seem our new players are a bit delayed in finishing their characters, but I will be starting Saturday either way. Hopefully our new friend Tyr and Sunset will be finished by then, but if not we will charge onward!

Just to make sure, I am to understand Antal, Havrin, and Barak will be returning, with Sunset and Tyr coming on as passenger, crew, or Defender of the Dervish. I am in the process of condensing all of the world description and rulesy stuff that has been posted thus far, but at this point I would appreciate it if our new players would familiarize themselves with our posting rules.

Aikuchi: Sorry you can't make it! You are of course more than welcome to follow along and even leave comments in our discussion thread if you so choose. Thank you for considering my little game!

Havrin:
I did not get your reply, on whether or not you would be joining the Captain's investigative detail or not. This is COMPLETELY up to you, and if you choose not to you will not be punished in any way, and will continue to be an integral part of this story; but remember you have your own quest as well!

Tyr Thordinsjon,

Pathfinder Cover 5 avatar

Um, I apologize for the confusion. Since the Sunset character is already generated for a different PbP and I am unsure about how to create a 'clone' of her, I present Tyr for inclusion within this adventure.

Real Life continues to take almost all of my time. I do hope to have Tyr ready by the start date of Saturday. Though, all things being equal, what would be the 'bare' necessities allowable?

*bows humbly*

Havrin Stahl,

The-Cinderlander avatar

Havrin's first priority when he gets to Midsky is to drop off the information he has gathered with his current employers (which can be as simple as saying, "Havrin arrives in Midsky and drops off the information regarding the dwindling water supplies along Omrian trade routes with his employers, and is now free to do whatever he pleases"). After he does that, he will be unemployed again (unless his employers ask him to perform any other tasks) and will be happy to join the Captain's investigative detail.

Well, I missed the Sept 1st Deadline (I don't check Paizo boards that often, except games I'm in - and I'd given up on this one) but if there's still space I'm happy to return.
I've not really looked over Pathfinder rules but I've got access to them, so I'd have to see about changing to the post-beta version.

Tyr Thordinsjon,

Pathfinder Cover 5 avatar

I'm not going to get the time to completely finish Tyr. A note as to whether he's 'Out' or 'In'?

!! Ha I'm trying to be really strict about deadlines here...trying to get this game running tight again. Perhaps I'll bring you back for Episode 2 Sirs but I need to get started tomorrow. Tyr I need your character finished and Paizo Core appropriate by tomorrow, but there's always Ep 2!

Could we please have Sirsi back in the group? It would be nice to pick back up with most of the original cast.

Should be updated now (I think, not a massive amount has changed character wise - though I seemed to be missing a feat?!?)
I'd like to play, but if you're full, I'm not pressing the matter further.

If a space opens up, or you hit ep2, I'd appreciate a mail (since this board seems to have no pm function...) I'm spinningdice (at) gmail.com

Well it seems the stars are in your favor sass. A player disappeared, there is popular demand, and since *I* missed my deadline I think it would be hypocritical to be too strict...you're back!

A few notes as we reboot: We are fast forwarding through the rest of the journey to Midsky, and all aboard the Dervish have arrived safely(with much continued effort in the Medical ward by Barak!). I will be speeding up the game in any way I can, to make for a more exciting PbP campaign. Most notably, I will be trying out a method of 'quick' combat a friend of mine developed, albeit with my own bent. Cutting down on overly tactical elements, it allows players to use their class to it's fullest extent, while not being entirely arbitrary and keeping a dice roll as the determining factor in combat. Hopefully it will go over well, and speed up combat to a mere day or so, rather than the week(s) that the last guy took. Purchasing(and crafting if you so choose) will be very simple, and I will post a guide regarding that in a seperate post as a companion to this one. There will also be a proper map of Midsky soon(yes I still use mspaint!) so you can more easily navigate this enormous sprawling metropolis. That is about all I can think of for now...welcome to Midsky!

Tyr: That'll do, I think I have what I need for now

I think it appropriate to start a new game thread for this new beginning, I have archived the original thread. the new thread is here

Sirsi O'Bannon,

Thanks, most generous of you - I'd have understood if you were too busy, but most games I'm in seem to have ground to a halt lately (hope it's not something to do with me!?)

Tyr Thordinsjon,

Pathfinder Cover 5 avatar

*Bows* I thank you for your patience and understanding. I've only recently gotten a copy of the actual Paizo rules, and these in PDF format. It will take me a little while to get to grips with this electronic beast.

As I figure out the new stuff mixed in with the old I shall adjust the character sheet/stats as need be. The little things like CMB and such. ;)

Thank you for allowing me to join, I shall do my best to be entertaining and flavorful. Just one question?

Where is Try? Standing upon the dock? A little noted crew/passenger upon the ship?

I do apologize if I seem to be 'jumping the gun' (Or perhaps Balista) as the case may be.

Cheers!

Tyr I leave it up to you, if you choose to me a member of the crew or one of the passengers, or someone looking for work, I generally allow players to write themselves into the world and I believe I have provided enough background in these pages to give you an idea of where you can fit in. Players! Harken! I am still working out the finer points of PbP combat, so feedback is always appreciated.

As we are wrapping up this second combat, I have a few concerns:

Simple, crude even; yet elegant(thanks MS paint), I find it easy to update the battle map without learning outside software. How do you feel about it?

1st combat we used a "group initiative" order, and this time I tried using individual initiative. Which do you prefer, and why?

How is the difficulty level of combats, and the overall frequency? How can I provide better levels of both/either?

Thanks for playing, starting sometime next week the real action will hit home...stay tuned!

Havrin Stahl,

The-Cinderlander avatar

I am enjoying everything so far!

I really like the MS Paint map - it works for what's needed. My only suggestion would be to put letters across the top and numbers down one side, so that we can reference coordinates that we would like to move to or opponents we would like to attack (ex., Move to square B10; shoot arrow at worg in square J9; etc.).

I think each initiative order has its pros and cons. With group initiative, each character's actions can occur in the order posted, whereas with individual initiative one character's actions may depend on what other character's who act earlier in the order do (which leaves us dependent on when people post - so maybe this slows down combat a bit?).

I think the difficulty level of combats is appropriate, although currently I am getting my @$$ handed to me and "I've fallen and I can't get up!" However, I think that just illustrates a neat example of using the combat maneuver and condition mechanics (tripping, fighting while prone).

Thanks for DM'ing, I'm really enjoying this PbP. Looking forward to futher developments!

I liked the map but like mentioned earlier a number/letter system on the sides would make it easier for us to let you know where exactly we move.

caith wrote:

Initiative I like the individual but that's only because its more familiar to me but I'm fine with either method.

I've liked the difficulty and frequency of combats so far. Can't really think of anything to add here to assist you. Sorry.

caith wrote:

Thank you for repicking this game back up! Antal has easily become one of my favorite characters to play.

caith,

A 14 Elf Guard Captain HIGHR avatar

Well thank you for the kind words, I am glad to be providing such enjoyment.

I will look at adding some sort of coordinate system in the next set of battle maps.

Personally, although it required a little more work, I preferred how the individual initiatives worked out this time, so we will continue with that as long as noone has any major complaints. The game will go at whatever pace is allowed(esp. during combat) and I am fairly happy with the current frequency of posting on everyone's part.

Sirsi O'Bannon,

A 17 -Zelara-(body-shot) HRF avatar

I prefer individual initiative.
Regards the Battlemap, another online game I was in used:
http://dabbleboard.com/ which could be pretty straightforward as you can open it up for us to edit, so we can actually move our own characters.
You could then either import the image from paint, or quickly sketch something up. You can't do much in the program itself other than insert images and draw lines though.
But it's quite nice that folks can move their own people
Here is about 10 seconds work to show what I mean.

caith,

A 14 Elf Guard Captain HIGHR avatar

Hrm, that's pretty neat Sirs. My only concern is that there is no form of security, so anyone could come in and vandalize the map. Although I am doubtful that such a thing will happen, I would rather not take the chance. If you are able to find something with a bit more security I might consider moving to that, but for now I think a coordinate system will make movement a bit easier. Also to note, if players are to move out of initiative, or make a mistake, it could become confusing(for me esp) very quickly, so that's another thing to take into consideration. Thank you for the input though!

To further fuel communication, I have created a group for this and future Scattered Shores games. If you would like to join send a message to the group. This applies to anyone reading along as well, if such a person exists(doubtful!)
