After the joust, Sir Manfred thinks to himself "I have got to invest in a military saddle..."

The Rogue Knight,

8 Hp Rescue Ambush Final avatar

I think only the first attack of Manfred hit; to the DM, the adjudication.

Tarren the Dungeon Master,

Locksmith avatar

The most heavily armored warriors of the joust stare down the road at each other. The battle quickly becomes the one everyone has a stake on. The sound of wood splintering on steel is drowned out by the roar of the crowd. The approval of the crowd is loud enough to make both knights forget they are far from civilization. Sir Manfred and The Rogue Knight are knocked from their horses and have to remount.

(3 points each)

In the second course, neither of the two knights score a significant hit. Shields deflect lances in a bout that still delights the crowd but gives neither much headway.
(1 point each)

In the final course of the pairing, The Rogue Knight anticipates Manfred's attack and defense and urges his horse forward, changing the angle of his lance just slightly. Manfred's lance is batted away as The Rogue Knight's smashes into the steel-covered breast, knocking the wind out of Manfred and knocking Manfred from his horse.

BTW, I forget ... is Manfred still wearing that crazy, evil bat-winged armor?

(4 points for the Rogue Knight)

(TRK 8 points; Manfred 4)

Kornelius Rowel II,

11550 620 20 avatar

"Well jousted!! Well Jousted!!!"

"Ah, congratulations, Sir Rogue. I see that we are to joust in the final joust that will announce the rightful winner!"

Or are we?

The Rogue Knight,

8 Hp Rescue Ambush Final avatar

TRK remains stoic but he seems to favor his left side. Could it be he sustained some massive injury?

"Thank you for your kind words, Sir Kornelius."

"The good Father is available if you need some healing, Sir Knight," says Falcon.

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg,

TSR 95053-24 avatar

You mean that masterwork plate armor the dwarves refitted to my size? Yes I am. *grim*

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg,

TSR 95053-24 avatar

Sir Manfred retakes his seat and looks towards the Judges Platform. That was a somewhat embarassing performance, he thought. He wondered if there was a military saddle for sale here at the keep...

Busy with Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Seminar

Tarren the Dungeon Master,

Locksmith avatar

The final match in these two days of jousting quickly becomes the most exciting. Kornelius Rowel decides to tighten his reins and take the blows in the hopes that he'll be able to stay on his horse.

During the first course both contestants score solid lance-shattering blows. Kornelius manages to stay on Sting but the Rogue Knight is knocked from his.

Kornelius 4; TRK 1

Their wooden lances replaced, The Rogue Knight and Kornelius charge down the old dirt road again. In the second course, both contestants are knocked from their horses.

Each gets 3 points.

The final course of the day sees both contestants wiping dirt from their knightly bottoms again.

3 points each.

Kornelius 10 points; TRK 7 points

Tarren the Dungeon Master,

Locksmith avatar

Falcon Warchild begins to stand to declare Kornelius the winner of the match, and of the day when a horse whinnies darkly from down the road.

A chestnut warhorse ridden by a rider in reddish-brown platemail sits menacingly in the middle of the road. His burnished platemail reflects the red from the Cinderland's soil giving his metal clad legs the appearance of having waded through blood.

The glint of the late noon sun reflecting off his lance tells you he's not playing with wood.

Although his visor is down, it is clear he is challenging the unhorsed Kornelius Rowel, who stands armed with only a broken wooden lance.

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg,

TSR 95053-24 avatar

Sir Manfred stands up abruptly from his chair, still holding the ice to is chest. Who is this rude intruder? He tries to make out the insignia on his shield.

Kornelius Rowel II,

11550 620 20 avatar

Kornelius takes out his sword and orders the intruder, "Name yourself, you knave! Then we shall see about this challenge of yours."

Kargan Rowel,

Hs Half Orc Tough Final avatar

Manfred can make out a variation of Kornelius' own shield. The redclad knight raises his visor and glowers. Kornelius recognizes his own brother. Even the murderous intent in his eyes is not unfamiliar.

Okay, who wants a piece of Kargan who has just been rejiggered as a 4th level cavalier? Note, most of you are probably not on your horses or ready for battle.

Camris,

Paiso Elven Scout Lord HRF avatar

Is he challenging to a joust, or just going to attack like an outlaw mugging?

Camris wrote:

No alignment restrictions on Cavaliers. He's going to prove he's the best on the field ... even if it means cheating.

Prince Percival Pineperry,

A 13 Vraxeris avatar

Percival stops eating pastries and looks round for the Lord's decision on this interruption. He even goes as far as to let the serving wench off his lap as he stands fully three feet tall.

"I say, such an ill-favoured face, I trust he has better manners that such an ugly mien," adds the halfling prince to the rest in the box.

Lord Kerrigan,

Theldrick avatar

"This is a bit of a surprise. Did you arrange this Falcon?"

Kargan Rowel,

Hs Half Orc Tough Final avatar

"This day will be remembered as mine, little brother," growls Kargan.

Kargan has issued a challenge against his younger (although bigger) brother, who is unhorsed and injured.

Tarren the Dungeon Master,

Locksmith avatar

Anyone witnessing the match may join this conflict but unless you had good reason to be wearing armour, sitting on your horse, and carrying a lance, you might need to sit out the first round or so.

ROUND 1 -- Initiative.
Kargan (22)

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg,

TSR 95053-24 avatar

With a sulfurous oath, Sir Manfred tosses aside his ice and hastily dons his breastplate only; no time to fully armor!
"Trouble! To me!"

Kallista Nonborn,

Hieracosphinx-fight avatar

Does wielding eggnog count?

Prince Percival Pineperry,

A 13 Vraxeris avatar

Percival shouts off to one side, "you men help that knight with his breastplate and see to his other equipment.

The four musicians leg it as fast as they can and struggle with the lance and such like. After all they are used to far smaller equipment.

Manfred soon has four pairs of hands helping him and the Prince waves a thumbs up to the brave knight.

"Watch out that horse is coming."

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg,

TSR 95053-24 avatar

Round 2

With the assistance of the minstrals, Sir Manfred will complete hastily donning his breastplate, slap on his batwinged helm (Standard); and then Mount up his horse Trouble (Move).

Modified AC is 22

Tarren the Dungeon Master,

Haven't been able to get time with Nerrat. Everyone has had a vicious cold here except me. Will pin him down tomorrow if possible.

Sir Kornelius Rowel the Second,

11550 620 20 avatar

Sorry, guys. Busy at school. Got a couple days off now.
"Brother! How dare you interrupt this glorious moment of mine! And in front of our parents!" Signalling to the other jousters of the competition, he shouts, "Attack him! But don't kill him."
Kornelius tries to get on his horse.

INITIATIVE= 1d20 ⇒ 7

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg,

TSR 95053-24 avatar

Round 3

Sir Manfred will grab up and secure his shield and lance and begin cantering towards the field.

Kargan charges down the road towards his younger brother obviously intending to trample him.

Kornelius, I believe you get an AoO. Kargan (the revised cavalier Kargan that I will post later) has the trample feat so you do not get to avoid him.

Sir Kornelius Rowel the Second,

11550 620 20 avatar

Kornelius, who sees what Kargan is willing to do, says, "Ah, trying to trample me, are you? As you wish. But you know, do reconsider, I have a mighty swing. No? Do you want a taste of my sword? Yes? As you wish. I would have never believed I'd do this but, take THAT!" And with that, Kornelius takes a mighty swing and...

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Tarren the Dungeon Master,

Locksmith avatar

Kargan's horse kicks up tufts of hard cinderland dust as he charges straight towards Kornelius.

Overrun attempt: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Tarren the Dungeon Master,

Locksmith avatar

A horse's hoof stabs out at Kornelius' side as he falls prone.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

1d6 ⇒ 1

Tarren the Dungeon Master,

Locksmith avatar

Kargan continues onward and begins to turn his horse to charge back towards Kornelius as Kornelius tries to stand.

Round 3

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg,

TSR 95053-24 avatar

Not sure when I'll get there, please notify me when I arrive on scene.

Kargan Rowel,

Hs Half Orc Tough Final avatar

Manfred will have to roll for initiative so we can see where he comes in in round 4.

As Kornelius starts to stand, Kargan charges towards his brother again, swinging his battleaxe from the saddle as he rides by.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

1d8 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (4, 2) = 13

EDIT: Confirm fumble: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

Hey, Nerrat, and you were complaining about Kargan's amazing rolls?

Kargan barely manages to maintain his grip on his axe as Manfred enters the field of combat.

ROUND 4 -- Initiative: Kargan (22); Kornelius (7)

Kargan should have had +11 to his attack (I forgot to include the cavalier's charge bonus). I also should have doubled the damage for spirited charge. He could have done up to 34 points of damage if he hadn't fumbled. Cavalier's seem pretty good to me.

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg,

TSR 95053-24 avatar

Initiative: (1d20+2=19)

Kallista Nonborn,

Hieracosphinx-fight avatar

Never one to like seeing an unfair fight, Kallista feels her blood boiling at the injustice. Unarmed, she nonetheless feels that she must do something to help.

DM - what does she need to roll to throw eggnog over Kargan, hopefully blinding him?

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 - init

Treat it as a thrown splash weapon. It's not of an unfamiliar size or shape so we will ignore any non-proficiency penalties.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Kornelius' belated Round 3 attack
Kornelius gets on his feet and takes another swing at Kargan.

Kallista Nonborn,

Hieracosphinx-fight avatar

I'll use her range stats which aren't that great. +2 sounds about right.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 - eggnog hurl at Kargan. Ooh. That's pretty good! Does she hit him?

"Drink cold eggnog, you dishonourable fool. Your brother is worth ten of you."

Round 4

Sir Manfred shouts across the field.
"Hold Varlet! You now face the wrath of the VonFalkenburgs!" And then charges to attack Kargan.

AC 20 this round.

Lance charge: (1d20+8+2=13)

D'oh! I don't expect to need to roll for damage.

Kargen is surprised to find himself suddenly blinded by thick, eggy liquid. He also finds it very difficult to wipe his eyes while holding a shield and a battleaxe. Although blinded, he charges at his brother once again.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

1d100 ⇒ 42

1d8 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (8) + 3 + (6, 3) = 20

What would have been a deadly blow, misses Kornelius as he ducks to the left.

Even blinded, he is able to kick aside Manfred's poorly aimed lance.
