Amunrel passes Arnhault some food mostly bread and cheese.

Finally managed to remember the right name!

"This might help, oh and keep an eye out I wouldn't be surprise if the cat's here too," Amunrel mutters to the Ranger.

robin,

I'll need a stealth check , Ewald .

A glance at her uncle-- she knew he could be sneaky, but he was not trying to hide from her-- and she shook her head, knowing full well that she could not even attempt to sneak off like that. Not only would she be getting a serious dressing-down from her father if she tried, but knowing him, she would be doing penance for the attempt by helping the farmer out. No thank you.

Instead, she moves over to stand by Sir Oribar, giving a bright smile to the farmer, as she removed her gloves, tucking them in her belt. Halsanna let her father do the talking, taking the opportunity to get some air, though she did give Uncle Am a look. The very faintest of frowns was on her forehead as she looked at her him, silently warning him about going off on any tangents while he was searching for the rat. It was a reminder he likely did not need, with her father standing there, but 'Vae took after him, and she needed reminding on occasion as well. A little reinforcement probably would not hurt.

Amunrel always wondered why Halsanna trained as a fighter rather than a ranger but then reflected it must be the influence of her father's side of the family.
Still she had good instincts he noted as he returned to the task at hand.

Perception check rolled a 14+9 for 23 to spot the rat in the barn specifically one with the cloth tied around it and if one turns up any cats to see if that particular missing pet has turned up

Taldor Sir Oribar Firdraes,

"If it is a matter of inconvenience, then perhaps we can pay you for any interruption this may cause."

He rumages in his pack for a moment, pulling out a gold piece. He holds his hand out for the farmer. "Another if we find the rat alive."

Ewald Salodar,

A 16 Verik-Vankaskerkin avatar

stealth check 1d20+6=17

robin,

The farmer looks briefly at the gold piece and then says :
'Listen , sir , it's not a question of money . I just want to understand what's going on there and what would the consequences be for my farm ? '

Ewald and Amunrel
You are currently standing in a barn full of hay ( I did say that the harvest has just been done , didn't I ? 'evil chuckle' ) . There are bales and bales of hay stacked everywhere. And yes you distinctly hear small feet going on and on somewhere in the mass of bales ahead of you ....

"How good are you at befriending animals?" Amunrel asks Arnhault.

Taldor Sir Oribar Firdraes,

Pfc 1106 Waydon avatar

Sir Oribar looks genuinely shocked, as if accused of offering a bribe. "Good farmer, we are simply searching for a missing rat, property of a merchant for delivery into town, which was set free by some type of nature-lover nearby here. We tracked it to your farm and need to recover it. I speak plainly, and if you wish to deny us permission to search your farm without trouble, then do so quickly and we shall be on our way with no further delay for there are more of these animals to find."

"Just a moment Sir Oribar," Adjunta says as he stares very intently at the farmer, "Something isn't quite right."

Adjunta looks back to the road, then scans the farmhouse, Adjunta then kneels down to look at the farmer's feet.

"Is there something you're not telling me sir?" Adjunta says, looking up at the farmer, "and before you answer consider this, I'm not a vindictive man, but I don't like being lied too. If you know something I'd suggest you tell me now."

What the hell ! You are coming into my farm ! You are sprouting nonsense about a magic rat ! And now you are telling me I am a liar !

"Well I have to be able to see the animal to influence it...and I'm not as good as a druid would be in this situation. But I am faily confident that I can get it to come to me once we find it"

"It would appear that we are not welcome here so I suggest that we finish this business as quickly as possible"

"Agreed," Amunrel nods back.
Moving stealthily forward he starts hunting for the rat hoping to catch sight of that tell tale cloth tied around its neck.

[ooc} Stealth check rolled a 7+7 for 14, Perception rolled a 5 for a total of 14 if sight and sound applies or 12 if neither do and a Survival check rolled a 14+2 for a total of 16 to hunt down the rat, I think thats it[/ooc]

** spoiler omitted **

Sense motive (1d20 7=19)

"I didn't call you a liar," Adjunta says standing, "but a few moments ago you used the exact words the sheriff used to describe the attack. Now seeing as we just came from town, ahead of any rumors, and you seemed to have knowledge of the attack, you can understand my suspicion. I get the feeling that you either saw or heard something, had part or were privy to the planing, or took part in some way."

robin,

The farmer looks at Adjunta
'Friend A little sarcasm there ? I don't know what you are talking about . Seems like you are going to keep pestering me and I've got better thing to do than to jaw all day with you . So if it will help you getting out of there , you are free to search for your magical rat there . Now , if you make a mess about my things , I'll boot you out of here .
He then shouts 'Jimmy , keep an eye on these 'peoples' and if they do anything suspicious , YELL '
with that the farmer turns his back on you and stomps back towards the main building of the farm
One lad (about 10 years old ) approach you and cross his arms looking like a miniature of the farmer

Amunrel , the rats are among the bales . Being tiny creatures , they can go between the bales without problems . So unless you move the bales ( around fifty of them ) , you can't see where exactly they are

For those who did succeed in the previous sense motive check

Spoiler:
The farmer is genuine about his response

"Looks like the little tykes are hiding in the bales somewhere, perhaps we ought to change tack and coax them out," Amunrel asks Arnhault.

Done it again! Okay tried an aid another action to help Arnhault hunt the little tykes however rolled a 2 with +2 in Survival makes it a total of 4 so no go guess its up to Arnhault...

Amunrel,

Opener 2 avatar

Not going to be able to post any more today so in case something happens Amunrel will use diplomacy to help ease the situation with the farmer and aid Arnhault with the search for the missing familiars although he'll refer to them as missing pets to the farmer and his family explaining that Adjunta is reacting to the awful way the lad's been treated in town because of this cruel prank thats been played on him. Take care!

Halsanna Firdraes,

A 17 Trina Hires avatar

At the sight of Jimmy standing there, arms crossed and watching them with some of the hostility that his father left him with, Halsanna offered the boy a small smile and walked over to conversational distance with him, squatting down to meet him eye-to-eye and offering her hand. "Good morning, young man. I'm Halsanna, and that's my sister 'Vae. We're twins." A look over her shoulder asked for Vivaeri's help in putting this kid at ease. "What's your name?" She did not bother to try to conceal her somewhat rough demeanor, and instead gave him a grin that she could remember giving to 'Vae when she was that age, all good cheer and exuberance, with an imagination to make an adventure out of the smallest things.

robin,

Jimmy tries to not smile at Halsanna and speak 'manly'
'Allright, folks, Let's get going'
He looks at Halsanna quickly to see if she is impressed ...
his duty to the masculine cause forbids him to react to GURLS...

Ewald Salodar,

"Hopefully we'll not be long enough to make matters any worse," Amunrel nods back in reply.

"Halsanna, Vi, has our guard seen any new cats today?" Amunrel asks his nieces being careful to not specify one over the other.

Taldor Adjunta Paul,

Manshoon avatar

"I think we may have learned something from that encounter . . ." Adjunta says as he taps his nose with the side of his pointer finger through his veil, "let's find this rat and continue our investigations."

robin,

Ewald , You find without difficulty food attractive to rats but you also know that unless the rat was domesticated , he will not come as long as he sense humans nearby. You should also devise a plan on how to catch him since if he is wild , he will not let you catch him easily

Jimmy has come into the barn and is looking at what Ewald is doing with interest

Vivaeri Firdraes,

A 16-Red-Death avatar

Vivaeri shrugged at her uncle's question. She honestly didn't hold out much hope for finding something so small in so wide an area. Then again, the woodsy types seemed to know what they were doing.

She leaned over near her crouching sister to help her deal with Jimmy. "Well, aren't you quite the dedicated little soldier?" she exclaimed with a wink. "You must have to handle a bunch of responsibilities, don't ya?"

Diplomacy: 18 (11+7)

robin,

Yes , madam , I get to keep one eye on you !

Amunrel,

"Do you get plenty of visitors these days?" Amunrel asks the farmer's boy.

Diplomacy check rolled a 17+5 for 22 would you rather I use a dice roller or keep on free rolling?

Ewald Salodar,

A 16 Verik-Vankaskerkin avatar

Ewald grins as the lad shows his disinterest in girls...he remembers what he was like at that age.

is Ned still with us?

robin,

No, sir !

yes , ned is still trailing behind you

Vivaeri Firdraes,

A 16-Red-Death avatar

Eyeing the inside of the barn and seeing just how much hay they could possibly have to search through, Vivaeri chewed the corner of her mouth in thought. She then whispered to the others one by one, "If it's in here, I can just scare it out. I think. The rest of you can catch it, right?"

If no one stops her and tells her this is a terrible idea:

She then walked over to the young guard. "Heeeeey, Jimmy?" She bowed down until she was at eye level with him, her hands behind her back. Want to see some magic?"

Halsanna Firdraes,

A 17 Trina Hires avatar

Halsanna knew that tone her sister got when she was about to try something that could have... disagreeable repercussions. Of course, Halsanna knew little about magic, save that people could do it, and it was usually helpful, and often harmful, depending on the caster. Neither of those comforted her any when she looked at the smile on 'Vae's face, looking to her father next, and Uncle Am. If they did not object, neither would she.

Pulling her gloves off of her belt and pulling them on, she backed up to one of the doorways, getting ready in case no one objected.

Ewald Salodar,

A 16 Verik-Vankaskerkin avatar

"What kind of Magic Miss Halsanna..we don't want anything that might damage the barn...do we"

"Ned, this rat...was it bred as a familiar or captured"

"And you young Man" adressing Jimmy "How do you think we should catch a rat..a tame one mind" Ewald smiles at the lad and gives him an 'all girls are crazy aren't they' look

Ned : 'It is wild , my lord'
Jimmy : 'You don't catch rats , you kill them ! '

Vivaeri Firdraes,

A 16-Red-Death avatar

Ewald Salodar wrote:
"What kind of Magic Miss Halsanna..we don't want anything that might damage the barn...do we"

"Oh, no!" Vivaeri reassured him. "It's nothing dangerous. I was just going to 'throw my voice' a bit. I can make it sound like there's something in the hay. Hopefully that would be enough to scare anything hiding in there out where we can catch it."

Ewald Salodar,

A 16 Verik-Vankaskerkin avatar

Ewald nods..."Aye I have seen such spells used on the frontier to distract Quadiri patrols before we strike..and against us in the same way. What were you planning... a small but vicious dog..or a large cat..something like that?"

robin,

Just a remark if you go with this plan
Since this is a barn , you run the risk the rat will flee by a crack in the walls . so you'll need to surround the barn

Amunrel,

Opener 2 avatar

"A wild rat? Surely you'd have to tame the little beggar if you wanted it to become some wizard's familiar?" Amunrel asks after hearing Ned's comment.

Amunrel will be dropping little bits of bread and cheese in the centre of the barn between the bales of hay whilst he's saying this.

"Now step back a bit, we need to sort out our little friend from his accomplices so we can proceed to find the other missing pets we're looking for," Amunrel suggests motioning to the others to step back as he tries to coax them out so he can look for that one specific rat allowing them to get to the food without interference and hopefully Ned's rat will make an appearance...

Vivaeri Firdraes,

A 16-Red-Death avatar

Ewald Salodar wrote:
Ewald nods..."Aye I have seen such spells used on the frontier to distract Quadiri patrols before we strike..and against us in the same way. What were you planning... a small but vicious dog..or a large cat..something like that?"

Vivaeri smiled, "Oh yes, just a cat. Maybe a large one, possibly several. Whatever sounds most convincing." She instantly mentally kicked herself for falling into the routine of gauging the audience. It's a [b]rat for Shelyn's sake.[/i]

She coughed lightly before continuing. "If it works, it will likely take off as quickly as it can, so we should probably be ready..."

robin,

You need to decide which plan you're following :
Can I have a vote ?

* If you follow Vivaeri's plan . I need the position of everyone
* If you follow the other plan , I assume you'll need to make a stealth check ( Rats have learned not to approach big things that talk and move a lot and carry lights). This stealth check is only for those being in the barn
Ned will go where you want him to go
Jimmy WILL stay in the barn

Halsanna Firdraes,

A 17 Trina Hires avatar

With the food that Uncle Am had dropped in the center of the barn, and 'Vae's idea to scare them out, Halsanna was wondering which of the plans would bear fruit. Still, she wanted to see if her little sister could pull it off, so she had taken her pack off, setting it just outside of the door to the barn, with her crossbow atop it. Her kukri was still sheathed on her leg, with a case of bolts hanging from the other, but they would not impede her in the slightest. She flexed her hands, settling her gloves, and grinned. "I'm set", she declared, tossing a smile to Jimmy. Walking and talking was nice, but she always was the type of person to do something over remaining idle.

An eyebrow was raised at Ahnalt, and a look to her father to see which of the plans he was preferring to follow.

Taldor Adjunta Paul,

Manshoon avatar

Adjunta doesn't go into the barn. He waits outside watching the ground, looking for movement, but he has no intentions of diving after a rat (he is wearing white priestly robes). Adjunta has his club out, looking to stun the rodent should he spot it.

Amunrel,

Opener 2 avatar

Amunrel patiently waits.. and waits... after all he is an elf and elves are good at patience...

He does hear what Vi wants to do but remains where he is keeping an eye out so if she does cast her spell he has the best chance of spotting the rat they're looking for and alert the one nearest to it.

Passive Perception if thats okay?

Vivaeri Firdraes,

A 16-Red-Death avatar

Vivaeri waited as well for her father's approval. Where normally she would have simply done it, his approval was something she wanted after his expression of hurt over his daughters' treatment of him.

"I mean, whichever way you think is best...we could wait too..." Just spending time with him wouldn't be so bad either, but actively doing something meant spending time with him without awkwardly avoiding the issues that had come between them.

Taldor Sir Oribar Firdraes,

Pfc 1106 Waydon avatar

"Patience and caution are true virtues that all should heed. It is best we wait and see if this trap succeeds before charging in like a lunatic druid."

Oribar's recall of the attack is obviously an attempt at humor, he has a habit of poking fun at situations rather than people.

Ewald Salodar,

A 16 Verik-Vankaskerkin avatar

"I agree..we should try passive measures before active ones"

Ewald moves towards the barn door remaining just outside the building

Vivaeri Firdraes,

A 16-Red-Death avatar

Vivaeri followed the others out, taking a place near Halsanna. She kept her wry, idle smile up, but she was still a bit disappointed. She had hoped to at least prove useful to her father.

Amunrel,

Opener 2 avatar

"Sometimes a little reverse psychology is in order, perhaps instead of being like the cat you should be more like the mouse whose found a veritable feast?" Amunrel mutters to Vivaeri holding out a hand to point at the small ring of bread and cheese he's laid out for the rats.

robin,
