Gorgrom the Relentless,

Lassiviren Final avatar

"From the way Willow was acting, she must think we have much in common Feres." Gorgrom raises his eyebrows in sarcasm.

"By what they know of me and the current situation of Trask, I would say we both have a common enemy." A scowl forming on Gorgrom's face as he thinks of the dragon. "Do you have a few minutes to talk, or are you leaving immediately?" He asks.

Gorgrom makes his way over to a wooden table and chairs and takes a seat. "I need to buy a new cloak. That monster burned it right off."

OOC BTW kyrt when i say that my character can be anywhere, i mean anywhere in the sense of wherever is most convienient to you , not sure if that came across in my post, Rav,

Baldoin Balagtas,

7 Cale avatar

Despite his many wounds and the blinding pain from making any sudden movements, Baldoin's hands moved quickly. One arm grabbing hold of Shaina, feeling her rapidly rising body temperature searing through bandages and already charred flesh, and the other going through the burnt remnants of his robe with great haste. Shaina struggled from his grasp, inconsequential bursts of flame erupting from her fingertips, and then became deathly still.

And then she looked straight at Baldoin, one pupil flickering like a smoldering ember, a twisted smile on her face.

"This child is one of mine now." She snarls with her childish voice, twitching ever so slightly in his unflinching grip.

"Not yet." Baldoin said simply. He raised his free hand, a small token lightly held between two fingers, and expertly drove it into Shaina's shoulder.

Gah, so much for resting. Took a while to think of what Baldoin should do. Man of action and all. I'm a bit fuzzy on how much health I would have regained, so uh...again more stuff in the ooc thread.

Aydan Mishnok,

Monster-hunters avatar

Whistle, whistle, cry,
the old man with one eye,
Whistle, whistle, cry,
a day to up and die!

A grim children's rhyme, but then Xalanthel had been a grim place to be a child, drakes and azer, and the crimson lords chosen men ruling over the enslaved lower classes, forced to mine and farm and fight for the soot-stained city's further glory, for the whim and will of their mighty draconic master.

Aydan felt like spitting, but stifled to urge, the locals would likely not be pleased. It was a quaint hamlet, though their were few larger settlements in the area, nation-sized swathes of wilderness surrounded the lands of Xalanthel, and its few equally lawless and depraved neighbour states in the Skyscar Mountains.

He was readying the horse, the second he'd had to purchase, the first had died on its feet a day after he'd bought it and he knew to be more astute in his dealings with the furtive people of this endless forest. Soon he would ride on and out, in search of knowledge he desperately sought, dreams of arcane might and draconic ascencsion. There would be a new dragon on the throne of Xalanthel, some day. He would break that dark lord and his shackles. A vicious smile unsettled the serving girl as he settled his bill in the inn.

Mounting up he rode out to follow the road, stopping to ask a local where the nearest city lay. He'd need a library, old knowledge, to find old magic.

kyrt-ryder,

@ Loren::::

The presense persists as the elven wizard journey's towards the apparent farmland, eventually manifesting as a human boy, maybe 10 or 12 years of age, with an especially powerful build for his age, broad shoulders and defined arms.

"What brings you way out here elf?" Inquired the boy, his voice hardened from a hard life, but with no malice in his words. "Your kind is all but a legend around here."

There seemed an... edgyness to the child, as though there were something he were hiding, something he were protecting. His eyes would occasionally glance to the weapons the elf carried. Those legends included legends of elven weaponmasters, harnessing a hybrid of spell and steel to rain death on their enemies. "You got a name huh"

At the sounds of her child screaming, her mother ran into the room, only to see her little girl screaming and crying, pounding on the elf warrior who had a grip on her arm. "What the hell is going on here. Mind explaining yourself Baldoin?" She inquired, taking the girl into her arms, the amulet still in hand. "What did you do."

Gorgrom the Relentless wrote:
"Do you have a few minutes to talk, or are you leaving immediately?"

"Yes, by all means I have time to talk," Feres responds as he takes a seat across from Gorgrom. "I've been praying for some way to help these poor people, and now the road has led me to you. I think Fharley is giving me a sign!" the stout man grins happily.

Feres' expression sobers as he considers the plight of the town of Trask as well as the surrounding area. "I must admit, I am a newcomer to these lands and am not that familiar with the state of things. I understand that this dragon - the Scarlet Emperor? - rules this land with a tyrant's grip. For all that we desire to make a change, I fear that it will take more than we two to remove the wyrm from power. I know of very few tales where only one or two brave souls were able to defeat a dragon, and such brave heroes were much mightier than you or me. No, for what we intend to do, I believe that we will need to find powerful allies. The trick will be to do so - and to hone our own abilities - without attracting the attention of the one we hope to defeat."

Feres ponders the situation for a moment, and then his expression brightens. "We must have faith! Fharley led me to you, and if it is His will to see this land freed, then I am sure that He will lead us to those who can aid us. It's just up to us to choose to follow the road wherever it leads!"

Gorgrom the Relentless,

Lassiviren Final avatar

Finally feeling that his trek out of the Spirit Wood is worth while, Gorgrom sits up and speak excitedly, ”Though I know not of this Fharley you speak, I believe what you say is true. I have been traveling aimlessly these past few days and it brought me to you. I want nothing more than to see the dragon’s head on a pike in front of his city for what he did to my tribe, but I know I am not powerful enough, yet.”

Gorgrom rises to his feet. ”We shall leave as soon as possible. Where does Fharley direct you?”

Baldoin Balagtas,

Baldoin watched the child's actions intently, catching the smallest moments when Shaira's eyes flickered from emerald to a fiery red and the smallest hint of a smile playing at her lips. Then he slowly looked up at Alika's stern face, and nodded his head respectfully.

"I apologize." He said. "I just needed to see something."

"Something that involved stabbing my daughter?" Alika snapped.

"And I can see that that was a mistake," Baldoin replied as levelly as he could in the face of Alika's glare.

Reaching out at the child's shoulder, Baldoin muttered a few words and gestured with his hand, before pulling out the token he had drove into Shaina with a final flick of his wrist. Shaina winced, then sighed in relief, her flickering eyes settling to a brilliant emerald hue once more.

"Not a scratch on her." Baldoin whispered, more to himself than to Alika. Glancing at the amulet in Alika's hands, he continued. "Leave the amulet with me. There may not be need of it. Yet."

Tossing the amulet roughly at Baldoin, Alika ushered Shaina out of the room, stealing suspicious glances at Baldoin. Shaina herself stole a glance at Baldoin, and with a flare of fiery red in her eyes, she smiled and stuck her tongue out at Baldoin.

With the mother and daughter out of view, Baldoin sighed, and stared at the token he pulled out of Shaina's shoulder.

Gah. Says I.

"Well milord, that would depend on just what ya mean when yer talkin'bout a city per day." Answerred the townsman, clearly nervous talking with a man of such presense on a horse, all too likely a noble, though he hadn't identified himself as such. "You see, there's a nice town a few days north O' our little home here, but if ye be lookin' fer a bigger city ya'll be needin' ta 'ead east. I've ne'er been further than tha river but we've 'ad some traders pass through by way O tha bridge, so if its a city yer lookin' fer tha might be yer best shot." The man, clearly an immigrant from another region, could be seen fidgetting, slipping progressively worse into his old dialect as sweat beaded his brow, worried about trouble. "If it pleases yerself, I can arrange an escort I can."

As the man stood there, bent over, knuckling his forhead, a large soldier, of the Agni corps approached, the town guard so to speak. "Is this traveller disrupting you from your duties Carpenter?" the armored man inquired, a gruff and fierce look to him past the red plate, wild blond hair escaping behind his partial helm. "Why not at all sir, I was just bein' friendly is all." he replied hastily, bowing to the warrior before backing away slowly, dissappearing into an alley.

"So then, time we handled this. State your name, home town, and your business here. And I don't want any lip you got that?"

OOC: Hope I didn't mess the accent up too badly Ayden, it just came out as I started typing. Anyways, this is what the soldier looks like AGNI Corps

Sorry this took so long bud.

kyrt-ryder,

@Baldoin

A few moments later, Alika slipped into the room through the door, a sad, strained look on her face as she made her way towards where the monk lay on the bed, lightly taking a seat on the edge. "Baldoin... I..." she began, tipping her head down in exasperation. "I'm sorry we've caused you so much trouble. I mean... I tried to raise her right, to teach her to be a proper young lady, but it seems every time I turn around that mischievous streak she got from her father is cropping up."

"Heh, father. That's a joke. She never even met the man." Hidden under her head and behind those long locks of red hair tears were beggining to form, as her voice warbled on. "Those damn orcs! If they didn't take his older sister when he was younger none of this would have ever happened!!!"

Spinning on impulse, the woman fell to her knees by the side of the bed, her eyes burried in Baldoin's chest, years of compressed and hidden emotion exploding out amidst her sobs. " 'Those bastards took my sister, I can't let the troup go without me' he says, insisting he head off with that bunch of fools to attack them, hoping to find his older sister. I begged him not to go, but he didn't listen to me! It's almost been 5 years and that whole group hasn't come back through here, and I've never seen or heard from him since. Stupid idiot."

Laying there, in that release of emotion, it was clear to see where Shaina got her passion from, an emotional torrent to match the fiery hair. "I...'m sorry...revered one, I... don't know what's come over me..." Raising off his chest, the woman dried her eyes, pretending the exchange had never happened. "If... you need anything Revered One, I'll be honored to assist."

kyrt-ryder,

@Aydan

"Tiny is right young man, I've not heard of Nagir and I used to be stationed several leagues to the west." Though somewhat suspicious, the large man was amiable enough, his serious face showing a bit of a friendly sparkle.

"As for him, that's the town Carpenter here, he overees the carpentry work, the repairs, the building projects, all of that and such. Yes, to the east lies the city of Tre`age, a sprawling metropolis filled with all manner of buisness and trade, buildings that reach into the sky."

Pausing a moment, the soldier laid a gentle hand on the sorcerer's shoulder. "But be warned, Aydan, for with great wealth and splendor comes great filth and treachery. The slums of Tre`age are a true hive of scum and villany, the likes of which even the legions of the Great Red have been unable to cleanse. Take care young one. May his fire keep you warm, and his crimson claws protect you always."

Once there, a letter was swiftly fashioned and sealed, concerning the suspicious outsider, his claimed hometown and description, and the peculiar response he'd given to the honored farewell.

Once completed, the soldier made his way to the cages, selecting a swift pseudodragon from the list, attached the letter to the slot, and gave the creature the instructions.

In the shadows of darkness, the letter was underway, and soon, it would enter the claws of one who would investigate the contents.

"Fharley is the road, and all of the untold wonders that await just beyond the horizon. He is the guide to what we seek, if we but keep putting one foot in front of the other. If we put our faith in Fharley, He will take us where we need to go. All it takes is that first step."

Feres smiles warmly as he shares a bit of his faith with his new friend. He ponders Gorgrom's last question before he continues.

"I came from far to the west, and traveling eastward has brought me to you. Perhaps we should continue east? I think that I heard of a city named Tre'age in that direction - that might be a good place to find individuals with the skills we seek."

Gorgrom the Relentless,

Lassiviren Final avatar

Feeling a rush of excitement for finding a new companion, Gorgrom eagerly accepts the Friar's suggestion. "To Tre'age we head. May Fharley and the Forest Spirits guide us safely." Gorgrom quickly walks back towards Willow and Norris' house. "Shall we say our thanks and goodbyes then Feres?" Gorgrom claps Feres on his shoulder as he strides by.

kyrt-ryder,

As the pair approach, Willow, who'd been watching from the window openned the door, welcoming the pair. "Fast friends are we? Then again, you always did have a way with people Feres."

Pausing, the woman tilted her ear to the breeze, almost as though she were listening to the trees. "I see, your headed to Tre'age are you? Please, feel free to pack whatever food you wish from here for your journey, that City is nearly a month's journey north-by-north-east by foot, with terrain far too treacherous to be able to take horses the whole way."

Turning, without waiting for answer, the woman strode towards a door, unlocking it with a key before opening it, revealing stores of canned fruits and vegetables, meats and flour, everything one could ask for to eat well on a journey. "Good luck boys." she whisperred, blowing them each a kiss before stepping aside to allow them to fill their packs as they desired.

OOC: Right, one other piece of factoid every PC has that I'd neglected to mention. Everybody starts with a handy haversack. It just makes life easier on everybody. Be warned though, I do keep a 'loose' handle on weight, overload too badly and it will effect you (and HH-sacks still count weight, just be reasonable and it won't ever be an issue)

Gorgrom the Relentless,

Lassiviren Final avatar

With no discrimination to the kinds of food, Gorgrom stuffs his pack until full. Turning to Willow he bows his head slightly, "I still feel as I owe you something. Feres and I will one day return with evidence of the dragons demise, though it will most likely be heard throughout the land as quickly as the wind blows."

"Goodbye, you and Norris be careful until then." Gorgrom then turns and walks outside and waits for Feres to bid his farewell.

Friar Feres,

Portraits-Almir Argith Viare 2 avatar

As Gorgrom says his goodbyes, Feres fills his pack with the offered stores.

After Gorgrom steps outside, Feres grips Willow and Norris in tight bear hugs. "Thank you again for all you have done!" the priest says to the couple. "You have done so much to make this wandering soul feel so very welcome in this community. I will truly miss you and the people of Trask. I pray Fharley will lead me to your door again someday!"

The stout cleric leaves the cabin and claps his new friend on the shoulder before heading off down the trail, turning back once to wave good-bye to the woodsy couple. As the two adventurers pass out of sight, Feres' voice comes floating through the trees:

"Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin'
I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man"

kyrt-ryder,

As she embraced Feres, a soft, inaudible whisper floated from her lips, wrapping him in it's essence, shrouding him under it's magic.

"Thank you my friend, I've certainly enjoyed your...company." she left off, smiling as she released him. "To find Tre`age, you need to head north, follow the Celeste River until it ends at the Rainbow Lake, and circle around it to the east, be careful not to enter the marshes you'll find, those who do are not heard from again.

"On the other side of that marsh is the black forest, be wary my friends, it too is not easily navigated and there are tales of great wolves that hunt the woods, devouring those ill prepared. Once beyond the black forest you should find the way without difficulty. Good luck boys."

Uncertain as to how he should proceed, Baldoin went with the safest route and calmly and respectfully lifted Alika off of his chest.

"Alika, you ask for much." Baldoin stated gravely, "You have practiced the Way for all your life. You know of my task, what I must do, which must come first above all else. You know that by telling me this, you have obligated me to assist you in any way I can, which is something I cannot do. Nor do I wish to. There is in fact, a very good chance that her father has already died in this foolhardy quest for revenge."

"However," Baldoin continued, with a hint of a tired smile, "I will hold to my obligation, and I will send word of your husband's fate, if I am lucky enough to discover it in my travels."

"Thank you, reverend one." Alika said gratefully, and almost at an impulse, reached out and hugged Baldoin. Baldoin allowed it for a moment, before pushing Alika away as lightly as he could.

"Now dry your tears and go." said Baldoin, "I need some time to..think."

As soon as Alika was out of earshot, Baldoin sighed heavily, staring at the shadowy recesses behind the door. "I know you're there."

Out of the shadows, a pair of normally emerald green eyes flared red.

Hmm. I should probably start listing down stuff. Oh and dragon age is mere hours away!

As Feres breaks out in song again, Gorgrom looks at Feres inquisitively. Gorgrom thinks to himself, "Do all humans sing as much as the ones I have met recently. How do they hear anything over that, enemies could hear us coming for a mile." As Gorgrom listens, he begins to fall in stride with the friar, rocking back and forth.

"I am guessing you know where we are heading Feres?" Gorgrom asks, hoping he does not say "only Fharley knows."

Wondering what kind of experience the friar has, Gorgrom asks "Do you encounter much opposition in you travels? You do not seem to care who hears you coming."

Aydan was walking as he crested the last hill before Tre'Age, it drew attention, and if he was going to be robbed anywhere, it would be the slums of Tre'Age, a virulent stain surrounding the walls of the city. He wore a plain, very common looking, though well-made cloak over his gear, and the grey sky matched its colour.

He was otherwise unforgettable, a strong clean face, passing handsome but not striking, dark hair and a slight weather-tan, only the occasional glints of red from his otherwise dark eyes suggested he was anything more than a common traveller.

As the man crested the hill, the deep, lingering presense that had haunted the edge of his senses since he'd set camp two nights prior finally lifted, a subtle bit of movement just outside his range of vision vanishing into the crisp later afternoon/early evening air as Summer neared it's close in the Hill Country.

There, nestled in the valley between the hills, lay Tre`age in all it's splendor, white sparkling walls surrounding a beautiful city, the white tower of knowledge reaching high into the sky, above the peaks of the surrounding mountains, an ominous crackle in the atmosphere as clouds slowly began to block out the sun.

Aydan Mishnok,

Monster-hunters avatar

The juxtaposition of the sprawling slums and the pristine white city brought a sad smile to Aydan's lips. It seemed as if the cityfolk's wall was more so to see the slum dwellers out and looked over more than even defend the city.

It's a sad world we live, men walking past their suffering brothers on the street. I'll change it all someday, I'll liberate Xalanthos, and I'll change the way the world treats the second-class.

He'd always been told he was an ambitious dreamer. Putting the dreams of another day away from him, he walked down into the valley towards the gleaming city. Knowledge, and the power it brought, awaited him.

Aydan Mishnok,

Monster-hunters avatar

Aydan walked the broad road surrounded by other travellers, to either side stretched the spiderweb of alleys that made up the 'streets' of the slums, the only place wide enough to allow a cart through was the great cobbled road leading to the gates set in the gleaming white walls of Tre'Age.

Soon he came to gates where guards were making prefunctory checks of travellers entering the city.

Under the cover of the Friar's song and in the red glow of the falling sun, their assailant had crept up to them unawares, opening it's mouth and erupting with a violent throaty roar of bloodlust and vengeance, flames roaring out from it's mouth in a cone that caught them both in it's blast.

As the flames faded and visibility returned to the dried eyes, the pair could stand a red hunter dracobold standing 20 feet behind where they'd been, it's muscles coiled ready to spring in an instant for their throats.

A glance at it's stomach would reveal a long, wide gash where it's intestines had been severed, and then restored to it while it had lain resting after the explosion of flames. And, by looking at the beast, it's stance, the glow in it's eyes, Gorgrom could not help but think it had come back stronger.

OOC: Using defensive fighting, so keep in mind it's AC is going to be a bit higher than expected.

kyrt-ryder,

For Aydan

"Evenin' mate, glad ya could make it in before tha sun went down. Troubled times we live in, that it's so dangerous just ta walk the streets after dark. But watch yer back mate, just because yer inside the walls doesn't make ya safe. The outer-city's a bit worse, less protected and the like, but the inner city's no picknick either. Stick to the main streets and try not to stay out too long and you ought to be alright."

Pausing a minute, the guard scratched his scraggly patchy goatee, not entirely sure how to answer the question. "You see, the city doesn't REALLY have a ruler per-se. We take instructions from the tower, and they pay the guard to keep the city around their precious tower safe from crime and monsters and the like. We've got a town counsel that handles the minor day to day stuff, like the common laws, marriages, and all that stuff. So, what brings you to this... fine city fella?" The guard inquired, a friendly face inside the open visor.

'I've heard of Tre'Age, and from what I can see and from your welcome alone, fine sir, I thnk this is the city for me! Dark and dangerous streets and all!' He smiles broadly.

'Know you of any place I could procure some protection, perhaps a den of adventurers or most trustworthy folk than just mercenaries? Should I have needs in the rougher parts of town.'

1d20+9

"Sorry mate, not really the sorts of things that are common around these parts, but if yer lookin' fer some help ya might find some at an inn. There are some old soldiers or young'ns lookin' fer excitement that might be willin ta give ya a hand. Wish I could be more 'elp mate. A good inn to start lookin might be the Rusty Anvil."

OOC: GOOD GRIEF, nice diplomacy rolls so far lol.

Reflex Save 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

As Gorgrom tries to dodge the enveloping flame he realizes this is the good for nothing Dracobald that almost killed him earlier. Seeing the mut again, Gorgrom grits his teeth and yells "Get off my back scum!" While letting an arrow fly.

Attack with Bow 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 Damage 2d4 + 7 ⇒ (1, 1) + 7 = 9

OOC: 31 HP. Good to be back in the saddle :)

EDIT: HAHAHA 2 ones! Damnit

OOC: Save made, 4 fire damage taken, feel free to RP it however you please and take your turn Gorgrom [unless you intend to delay until after the Friar goes, tactical options abound lol. This time before you bust out your fire resist though, I'll point out that he's got the same recharge counter as a dragon on it, so that may or may not be an ideal move, decisions decisions ;) ]

EDIT: You know, I've been thinking about it alot, and I'm changing d8's to 2d4 like I did with HP, so you either dealt 2+7 damage, or you reroll with 2d4, your call.)

'The rusty anvil, thank you sir and may your days be long.' Aydan slips the man 5 silver in thanks and heads into town to find the Rusty anvil, being very watchful for thieves or pickpockets, though seeming totally at ease Bluff 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15.

OOC: Those +9's sure help.

kyrt-ryder,

OOC: Make a perception check Aydan (and now you see why I suggested you put a rank in perception lol)

If the total's over 15 feel free to rp being a little spooked or whatever, I'll let you know if you make it or not in my reply.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Aydan continues down the street unaware, keeping an eye out for the Rusty Anvil, his eyes not as on the road as they should be, he begins taking in the wondrous sunset skyline of Tre'Age.

kyrt-ryder,

As the young sorcerer made his way completely oblivious through the streets, his stalker bode his time, waiting until the moment was right to strike, firing from the shadows, the soft twang of his bowstring muffled by his release technique as the rounded arrow erupted out from where he hid among the refuse and alleyways.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 2) + 3 = 6

Critical confirmation roll 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

OOC: OOOOOOoooooo, you got lucky! Btw, you can tell it's a nonlethal arrow, somebody's trying to knock you out. There are lights around, but you can't see him, and right now your under a street lamp, this move is on you. (remember it takes a move or swift action to actively try to percieve somebody, you can use both in a given round if you so choose)

I have to leave for now, I'm hoping a post from both you and Friar tuck when I get back.

Aydan stands with the lamp at his back, and peers into the darkness, still smarting from the blunted arrow.

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

If he sees his assailant, he casts daze on them.
