Into the Blue: Spellgard II
Perigia,

Sarenrae Final avatar

Perigia reaches out and smacks the guy Brujah had pushed next to her with her staff and crits. She does 18 damage to the guy. 1d20+5, 1d8=[20, 5], [8]

Erik Annadar,

8 -Rake Final avatar

On my turn:
Erik smiles, already impressed by the prowess of his new, diminutive friend.

Though still unfamiliar with Commander Caine, they already begin to coordinate their attacks perfectly.

Erik, seeing the wisdown in focusing on one opponent, strikes the berserker with his thin blade. A sonorous hum fills the air as he does so like that of a tuning fork, inspiring those that also attack the berserker.

Standard Action: War Song Strike vs. B6; 1d20+12=22 vs. AC for 13 damage and anyone who strikes B6 before the end of my next turn gains 3 temporary hit points.

On Caine's Turn:

Rev; can I get a ruling on whether Opening Shove counts as a "hit" for the sake of Caine receiving the 3 temporary hit points? He did technically succeed in hitting the berserker even if he didn't do the damage.

"With pleasure, sir!" shouts Erik and attempts to stab the berserker; 1d20+11=19 vs. AC for 5 damage and Erik gains 3 temporary hit points on a hit from War Song Strike.

Sorry, basic melee isn't really my thing yet.

Current HP: 44/54 (Not Bloodied); possibly 3 temporary

Rev DM,

Portraits-Almir Argith Viare 3 avatar

Wall of text apology... kill some of these bods if you'd be so kind, so I can shorten my posts. Alternatively, I could try rolling init in such a way that they didn't all end up in a bunch. That would help too.

Perigia may not be a melee specialist, but watching Brujo seems to have taught her trick or two. The shadowblade glares at her and grips his scimitar. Where it not for the compulsion placed on him by Brujo there would be little doubt where his next attack would be directed.

The berserkers howl again, urging each other on. "For the Dreamer and the Blue Fire!"

Berserker 1 hacks twice at Leo. Rage only makes him carefless and neither blow hits.
Battle Fury. Free action when first bloodied. Attack at +4 with an additional 1d6 damage.
B1 v Leo (Battle Fury) (1d20 11=18, 1d12 4=6, 1d6=2)
B1 v Leo (1d20 7=12, 1d12 4=16)

Berserker 2 hurls himself at Mother Bartha. Panic fills the woman's face as she manages to fling herself out of the way, her face terrified. "Help me!" she calls to Mirth, all traces of her patronising tones gone.
B2 v Mother Bartha (1d20 7=9, 1d12 4=8)

Berserker 3 sees no reason to give up on easy prey and howls his triumph to the skies as he lands another blow on the tiefling mage.
B3 v Mirth (1d20 7=22, 1d12 4=6). 6hp damage to Mirth - luckily, you have the temp xp from Leo to eat all that for you.

Berserker 4 abandons Snaggletooth for a softer target, venting his rage on Erik. Rage makes him fumble his first attack, but the second strikes true and another howl of triumph goes up.
B4 v Erik (Battle Fury) (1d20 11=17, 1d12 4=10, 1d6=3).
B4 v Erik (1d20 7=26, 1d12 4=13). 13hp damage to Erik.

B5 moves to flank Caine with B6, but even this advantage is no help to him. B6 fares no better.
B4 v Erik (1d20 7=26, 1d12 4=13). Prat.
B6 v Caine (1d20 9=13, 1d12 4=15). Eesh. Single figures? Come on, IC, let's not make this a complete walk in the park.

Caine's leadership qualities show themselves and together he and Erik deftly bloody the berserker. Howling once more, he lashes out at Erik, and misses completely.
Battle Fury v Erik (1d20 11=13, 1d12 4=14, 1d6=5)

The shadowblades look grim and go to work.
S1 moves to flank the pesky bard and just manages to get under his guard.
S1 v Erik (1d20 13=23, 1d8 4=6). Manually amended, to make sure S1 was attacking the right person. 6hp damage to Erik. Total 19hp damage this round.

S2 ignores Perigia and advances on Brujo, scimitar twirling. To no avail.
S2 v Brujo (1d20 11=19, 1d8 4=10)

S3 stares at Leo, unable to ignore the divine challenge placed on him.
The sidling horse ruins his aim and the paladin escapes unscathed.
S3 v Leo (1d20 11=16, 1d8 4=8)

The howitzer blast of magic missiles fills the air again. Perigia hears the familiar arcane whining and ducks one set. The second batch catch her off guard though and a shout of satisfaction comes from the trees.
Mages - magic missiles v Perigia (Ref) (1d20 5=24, 2d4 4=10, 1d20 5=15, 2d4 4=9). Mage 1 hits. 10hp damage to Perigia.

Erik - to answer your question, Caine would get 3 temp hp for the Opening Shove if it had come after your turn. Since it happened before you in the init order, he gets no temp hp.

Erik Annadar,

8 -Rake Final avatar

Sorry, guess I was a bit confused on the initiative order as I thought Caine went after myself and the berserkers.

"Well struck little one!" shouts Erik optimistically, even as the enemies draw around him.

Free Action: Virtue of Valor; Snaggletooth gains 4 temporary hit points for bloodying B4.

Also, Caine, I'm almost bloodied but don't worry about it. I'm going to heal myself next round with Majestic Word and use the free shift I get from it to set myself up for a blast attack.

Snaggletooth,

just making sure we got this right. interrupt (from last round) was against B4, and my new riposte was for B6 did that 6 from my interrupt attack bloody B4? Erik seems to think it did.

OH! I see. I am the only one who's hit B4, so I did bloody him. Yea! Go Kobolds!! +4thp

Caine

Spoiler:
to quote the immortal bard, MC Hammer, "they can't touch this". I am unharmed, thus far. I would love to use an action point, but I only get one SA a round. Let me check you Bravada bonus... extra attack, eh? I like extra attacks. (hence my overuse of riposte strike and the adding of guarding strike) ok, I will.

Rev DM,

Portraits-Almir Argith Viare 3 avatar

The joys of 4e combat. Erik, you're quite right. Caine does go after you and does get the temp hp. I really need to roll better spaced initiative. I got muddled with the additional attack Caine granted you, but all is now well, bar Erik being ganged up on by bandits.

Brujo,

It is July 4th so Mirth is probably caught up in the festivities

Rev DM,

Ah, good point. I always forget about American holidays. Thanks for the reminder. And happy 4th of July to those of you that celebrate it.

Commander Caine,

Happy July 4th. It's already the 5th where I am.

Brujo,

Nethys Final avatar

Happy 4th everybody, or 5th in Caine's case

Commander Caine,

Erik and Snaggletooth, I recommend we concentrate our attacks on B6 to eliminate the flanking situation vs. Erik.

Thanks Brujo.

Mirth Emberhand,

Rev, I am not able to easily access internet atm - if you don't mind rolling for me, how 'bout a Shift to L16, Fire Shield, Action Point, Fire Shroud (Should hit B1. B2 and B3) Fire Shield does damage with each attack ROLL vs Mirth, not just each hit.

Snaggletooth,

Kobold avatar

Commander Caine wrote:

I concur. As long as I can get my SA damage.

I love the 4th of July. The only time of the year where it is patriotic to watch stuff blow up!! *sigh* I love fireworks.

Rev DM,

Portraits-Almir Argith Viare 3 avatar

My pleasure, Mirth. I'm not using your action point as if you're invoking Sheild, that's an immediate interrupt and would already be up. If you can clarify when you next get a chance to post, I'll retcon if necessary.

Tail flickering, Mirth smiles slightly, letting the infernal light behind her eyes flow into her fingertips. She bathes in them for a second, deflecting one of the blows. Then the flames explode outwards. As they die away, S2, B1, B2 and B3 are left with flames licking up their bodies, greedy for more damage.
Fire Shroud (Fort) v S2, B1, B2, B3. On hit, target takes 5 ongoing fire damage (se). (1d20 9=19, 1d8 7=13, 1d20 9=17, 1d8 7=9, 1d20 9=24, 1d8 7=13, 1d20 9=26, 1d8 7=12).
That hits all of them. S2 is bloodied.

Had intended to use Fire Shield (utility daily) that gives me Fire and Cold Resist 10 and inflicts damage on anyone who makes a melee attack roll vs Mirth, since I was stepping into 2 melee-threatened squares. Doesn't make me harder to hit, but punishes those who try). Plain old shield works fine though.

We'll leave it as it is then. She's a destructive lady, that tiefling. Mother Bartha is petrified by her. Unfortunately, she probably won't be petrified enough to keep her mouth shut.

Erik, Snaggletooth, how do we choreograph our movements to full effect? I plan on doing a Brash Assault attack vs. B6 by moving to J3.

They're currently positioned perfectly for my Shout of Triumph Attack if I move a little bit. If Snaggletooth moves into the blast 3 area then I may be able to hit several of them and reposition Snaggletooth into flanking positions and activate my songblade's power to daze ALL of them. That means Snaggletooth will have his pick of sneak attacks. It's also fine if he wants to stay put so we can finish off B6 this round. I think it's a solid tactic regardless.

Commander Caine,

Erik, Snaggletooth, use of Action Points is highly recommended at this point - Extra attack with +1 bonus to attack rolls.

Sorry Perigia but what does this do again?

At this particular moment, it's just there blocking the enemy. However, depending on what your opponent does, it might have some surprises for him.

Perigia,

Sarenrae Final avatar

When S3 moves to attack Leo, Perigia's spirit wolf lashes out at him with one of it's claws. Using Spirit's Fang 1d20+5, 1d10+2=[14, 5], [5, 2] 19 to hit, 7 damage

Perigia,

On Perigia's turn, she will cast Fireball at the Mage. 1d20+8= 28 [20, 8] Critical Hit! That does 28 damage, 22 for the max damage, + 6 from the Staff of the War Mage 1d8=6 I will not be able to get on-line tomorrow so I'm posting now.

Leo maneuvers his mount so he's between the attackers and Sister Cherra and the others hoping the others are faring better.

It doesn't I'm afraid. S3 shifted, which doesn't trigger the attack. Something to note as well, is that unless it specifically says so, forced movement does not provoke OAs either.

Everyone

Spoiler:
sorry, I got lost playing Elder Scrolls: Oblivion yesterday. then I watched The Chamber of Secrets. I am getting ready for the new Harry Potter film by watching the previous ones.

Riposte Strike on B6. (1d20+14, 31, SA damage= 3+4+11+3= 21 damage and setup interrupt. then move- shift to H3, minor- shift to G4

Snaggletooth waits for his chance and moves to drive his dagger deep into the beserker. "Leave Pretty Man alone. Fight me." He then moves to position behind the other berserker, not waiting to see if the first one fell.

EDIT: Caine wants me to use my action point. So I obey. use action point. Use Bravura presence. riposte strike on B4. d20+15, 29, if hit, d4+4, 8 hp damage, set up interrupt on B4. extra attack due to Bravura presence. d20+14, 24, if hit, d4+4, 6 hp damage. total damge to B4, 14hp.

"Stop picking on the Pretty Man! Fight me, big ones!" Snaggletooth taunts as he moves around the big fighters.

Erik Annadar,

8 -Rake Final avatar

Erik sings a note of such immaculate pitch that it seems to assuage his fatigue and distract his assailants long enough to escape from their closing circle.

Then, after moving back again, Erik takes a very deep breath and lets loose with a mighty shout laced with magical strength. At the same time, the thin blade in Erik's hand begins to wave and hum with the shout before releasing a discordant note which blasts the eardrums of all the enemies in the vicinity.

Minor Action: Majestic Word on myself; spending a surge plus 1d6+4=10 extra hit points and gain 4 temporary hit points.
Free Action: Slide 1 square to H5 as part of Majestic Word.
Move Action: Shift 1 square to G6.
Standard Action: Shout of Triumph vs. FORT; 16 vs. S1, 22 vs. B4, 26 vs. B5, 14 vs. B6 for 10 thunder damage. On hits, move S1 to I4; move B4 to I3; move B5 to L5; move B6 to J1.
Free Action: Assuming at least one of those hits, activate my Harsh Songblade's daily power to daze S1, B4, B5, and B6 until the end of my next turn.

Erik then turns to the crowd of pilgrims and shouts, "Move away my good people. They are dazzled but still dangerous. Go protect the young girl!"

Now we can move around them freely without provoking opportunity attacks and they all grant combat advantage. Plus several won't even be able to charge or attack. Take your pick Snaggletooth. :)

Current HP: 52/54; 4 temporary

Commander Caine,

Crusader-col avatar

On my turn - Very Busy day for me tomorrow.

Move to J3

Brash Assault vs. B6 (Fort) (1d20+12=24, Damage 1d8+6=13

B6 can make as a free action a melee basic attack vs. Caine and has combat advantage for that attack. But if he does attack, then Snaggletooth can make a basic attack vs. B6 and has combat advantage for the attack.

Action Points - for additional extra attacks.

Caine charges B6 and he lowers his shield in a bid to make B6 attack him. "Bet you, you can't hurt me."

If the Brash Assault hits, then Snaggletooth gains 8 temp hp from Encouraging Stance.

Rev:

Spoiler:
Rev, just wanted to let you know that S1, B4, B5, and B6 are ALL dazed, even if I missed them. It affects all enemies within 2 squares of a hit target. The dazing is from the magic item, not the attack. They were all within 2 squares of each other when I hit them. You can read the sword's description on page 3 of my character sheet by clicking here.

Also, I apologize for interjecting as much as I have been. It's just the first time out with the character and there's a bit of a learning curve.

I lost an enormous post, so this is the quick and dirty, very non-atmospheric summary of events in the last round. I can try and find and repost all the rolls, but forgive me if I don't as my brain may fry. Thank your lucky stars I wrote it all down ...

Snaggletooth hits B6 and sets up his riposte strike.
Leo hits B1
Perigia bloodied Mage 1 She didn't specify which one she was gunning for, so I just chose Mage 1 on her behalf.
Erik hit B4 and B5 and dazed S1, B4, B5 and B6.

B1 succombed to Mirth's ongoing fire damage.
B2 killed (hp death) Mother Bartha - goodbye your handy, if infuriating, source of information and saved v the ongoing fire damage.
B3 hit Mirth for 6hp damage and saved v the ongoing fire damage.
B4 is dazed and missed Erik.
B5 is dazed and shifted.
B6 is dazed and missed Erik.

Commander Caine ran around in a tiny circle in order to charge B6, hitting him hard and allowing Snaggletooth a free attack.

Shadowblade 1 hit Erik for 9hp damage.
Shadowblade 2 missed Brujo and continues to burn, taking 5 ongoing fire damage.
Shadowblade 3 missed Leo.

Mage 1 came a bit closer and missed Perigia.
Mage 2 came a bit closer and hit Caine for 8hp damage.

The albino girl screamed again and a hippogiff ridden by a demonically handsame tiefling flew in the from the east, whacked open the reliquary with his sword pommel, grabbed something from the wreckage and is about to fly off again.

Erik, seemingly unharmed by the malevolent machinations of the very gods, continues fighting unabated.

Spying the descending hippogriff Erik cries out to Caine and Snaggletooth, "It appears the villain of this tale has made his appearance."

At the newly arrived tiefling he raises his blade, "Your underlings cannot keep us from concluding your cowardly contrivance. You have claimed your only life this day!"

By the way wouldn't the Holy Mother have received 7 temp hp along with Sister Cherra and Leo's fellow Pcs?

Leo, you're quite correct. Mother Bartha should have got the 7 temp hp. She's therefore on -2 and making death saves.
Death save (1d20=12). Mother Bartha clings tenaciously to life.

"Hmmmmm," thinks Erik, "looks like I may need to revise my last line."

Since Leo hasn't moved would that allow him to use his inspiring word on Mother Bartha or does she need to be conscious for that warlord ability to work?

You can use Lay on Hands to restore her, or you could just stabilise her. Either is acceptable. You will have to dismount to do so however. EDIT. You can use your Inspiring Word from the horse.

I'm confused. :( so I DIDN'T use my action point and deal 14hp to B4. And B6 is still alive? Tough buggers. Hmmmmm....

Rev, is there anything special about this attack I get from Caine? Oh, well, then it is melee basic attack I assume and it is d20+11, 22, if hit, 1d4+4, or 5 hp damage.

Mirth Emberhand,

X 7 Drowned-Water-Spirit avatar

Looking crossly over her shoulder, Mirth steps away from the onrushing berserkers, her left hand drawing shadows upwards from the darkness of the earth itself to clutch at her closest foes.

Having reached a position of relative safety, the tiefling turns her vexed gaze to the newcomer, concealing her momentary surprise at seeing another of her kind.

"Stay a while, won't thee?" she murmurs under her breath as she gestures with her staff.

Shift K15 (if possible). Grasping Shadows (Will) on M16. 1d20+8=20, 1d20+8=24 Should hit B2 and B3, in that order, for 1d8+4=10 damage and slowed til EoMNT.

Action Point: Phantom Chasm (Will) on L11. 1d20+8=28, 1d20+8=28, 1d20+8=20 vs Hippo, Vol and S2. First two are crits (!!), and do 16 psychic, third hits S2 for 2d6+4=14. Each target Mirth hits is Prone and Immobilized thru end of ITS next turn. On a miss, target is Immobilized thru EoMNT.

They're not that tough. Most of them are hanging by a thread. B6 may not be the sharpest tool in the box, but he knows better than to attack a kobold with a riposte strike set up against him.

With ruthless precision, Snaggletooth stabs at B6 again. As before, the berserker cannot evade the blow.

Mirth's combination of effects is both sudden and devastating. In seconds, the battlefield fills with prone and immobilised figures as the mage gestures irritably. With a wild screech the hippogriff collapses beside the wagon, wings flapping wildly as it and its master struggle to right themselves. Caught in the maelstrom and still blazing with infernal flame, the tiefling shadowblade also capsizes.

To their surprise, the nearest bererkers find their movements slowed.
