Nudged out of his Glare at Carter, Bogorin sees the strange looking Goblins and jumps on the bench on the wagon, readying his warhammer and shield as he yells " Goblins! Time tae earn yer pay youngins!"

Oddly enough, suddenly the old dwarf appears happier than anyone has seen him be in some time.

Perception (1d20 3=14)

Talden draws his axe and readies his shield as he looks around and tries to figure out how many goblins there are and where they are coming from.

"What's the meaning of this old man!? Did you know about this?! Damnit! First the Consortium and now this. Explain yourself!" Talden is down right pissed at the sight of the goblins and the realization that it might be Old Carter himself that has been betraying the town for years. Is there anyone in this town he can trust?! Does everyone have a hidden agenda?! At least he knew Bogorin, Tenna, and Willies' agendas. They were straight forward about things but everyone with power seemed out to deceive the town.

Talden puts his horse and himself between Old Carter and the others trying to calm himself down and focus. Think, damnit! Ironically he began to think of his training under Old Carter and Henry and certain questions began to cycle through is mind. How many enemies? Where are they coming from? Is that the main attack or is it just a distraction for a flanking maneuver? What other possible threats are there? Can you use the land to your advantage? How are you going to get away if you need to flee? If so can you out-run the enemy?

As the questions ran through his head he tried to look around and get a better feel for the landscape and where the goblins were coming from without taking his eyes off of Old Carter for too long. Always trying to keep him in his peripheral vision.

"Herve. I'll watch for anything from this direction. Tenna, you better stay in the middle. How many goblins are there, where are they coming from and does anyone see the ogre?"

What does the landscape look like? What order are we in (I presume Old Carter was up front)? Are we in open fields or in the woods?

Tenna Milcress,

Adventurer-Opportunist avatar

Still looking around wildly and wide-eyed, Tenna slid out of the saddle. She was caught off guard by how sore her legs had become, and awkwardly made her way to the middle of the group, thankful for orders to keep her mind focused on.

The notion to stay on the horse and make a run for it did cross her mind, but she knew she wouldn't be able to control her horse and that her best chance was to stand firm with the others.

"Do you know why they've started attacking Waypoint and who is Otis? Speak up old man!" Talden says getting angry at the prospect that someone in Waypoint would willing betray the town.
"Otis is..." Old Carter begins to say when a group of goblins charge him from behind causing his horse to jump making him concentrate on controlling his mount as he tries to move aside of the enraged goblins...

No you've never heard of the name

To everyone this should link you to the map I made of the scene you can decide whose on which horse you're riding and otherwise allows you to see what Willy is pointing at from the wagon.

There's four groups, only one has four goblins the rest consist of three each and they're behaving very strangely even for goblins

The trail is quite open save for the tall grassland on either side. there is a forest a short ride from where you are but the trail doesn't lead to it making it very bumpy for the wagon but not impossible.

Old Carter was in the lead he turned to talk with you the rest are on horseback by the wagon.

"Hop up on de wagon girl so ye kin do some good wit dat bow!" Boggorin yells as he himself hops off the wagon in the direction of the Goblins.

Strangely acting Goblins or no, Bogorin has finally seen an enemy he can fully vent his rage and fear for Dale on. He goes barreling into the largest group of goblins, aiming straight for the meanest, ugliest looking one of them (or whoever he can best reach with his charge). Sorry been looking into Tenna's problem at not being able to see the map so try this

Goblin Ambush

Now for the Initiative order

18A: Talden
18B: Goblin group 1 currently holding their action
17A: Herve
17B: Old Carter currently controlling his mount (Ride check)
16: Bogorin
16B:Goblin group 1 reacts to Bogorin's charge
7: Goblin group 4 currently holding their action
5: Goblin group 3 currently attacking Old Carter
4: Tenna
3A: Willy
3B: Goblin group 2 currently holding their action

Now the scene:

Four groups of goblins have surrounded the wagon some of you have dismounted to fight the goblins however the only group that had attacked have done only against Old Carter the rest seem to be simply waiting.

Talden rushes to aid Old Carter managing to throw off his attackers long enough for him to regain control of his mount (Ride check of 23) however being one handed means he can't aid the others in the fight until he dismounts.

Herve:

Bogorin charges into the midst of the largest band of goblins succeeding in causing that group's leader to retreat but not before leaving its three comrades to hold off Bogorin and Willy.

Goblin group 4 now released are gauging what's going on but otherwise holding.

Goblin group 3 which was attacking Old Carter's mount, two have already decided they've had enough and fled, the third however is striking at Talden instead.

Tenna:

Willy charges in alongside Bogorin managin to strike one of the waiting goblins leaving one left standing other than the leader whose running.

Goblin group 2 is now looking at each other and behaving as if they don't know where they are.

Yes they are
Wading into them you surprise them enough that the goblin who leads them runs off even as your blow cuts down the nearest goblin swiftly followed by another as Willy joining alongside you similarly cuts down one of the waiting goblins, the third and now last goblin glances at both you and Willy before dropping his weapon and fleeing in blind terror!

You both can have an attack of opportunity on this goblin if you wish

Surprised at the ease at which the goblin went down Talden turns to face the confused looking goblins and gets an idea...

"Drop your weapons or face our wrath!" Intimidate check = 13 to get the goblins to drop their weapons

Leveling his axe at the nearest goblins he continues:
"Answer our questions truthfully and you will live. Where is the ogre? Why do you attack our village and where is the girl and gnome? Speak!"

What's going on? Why aren't they all attacking? She held the bowstring taut, but held her fire and nervously searching out any goblin that seemed to be about to attack.

One of the three in the group still standing in front of you raises an ill-made axe and then screams...

Of the original goblins which ones are left and where are they?

As the goblins before Talden flee he turns to check on everyone else. Actually all you have to do is rub the ointment over the wounds both it and the herbal ball when used allows the recipient to recover 1d8+1hp per use although using both types after each other has a rather different effect

Have added a new rule for the Heal skill to make it more useful especially as there's no sign of Brallin yet in essence every 10 you roll on a Heal check's result adds 1hp to the amount healed so this time I'll roll and Willy recovers 7hp

Talden keeps an eye out as he approaches the group, wary that the goblins might regroup and attack.

"I'll keep an eye out in case the goblins decide to regroup and come back. Herve, Boggo you guys alright? You were in the thick of it back here."

As Tenna tends to Willie's wounds he looks about taking stock of the attack.

"By the way, excellent shots Tenna, you're better with that bow than people give you credit for."

While checking where his horse went Talden looks back towards Old Carter.

"Hey, Old Carter, you all right? They seemed pretty intent on doing you harm. How long do you think it will take for the goblins to get to the hill, warn the ogre, and get back here?"

You find he has dismounted and is leaning against the wagon having hitched his mount to the wagon.

Getting closer you notice he has pulled out a crossbow bolt something you know you didn't see any of the goblins using and is stuffing what looks like something similar to one of the herbal balls into the wound.

It doesn't appear to be working.

"Carter!" Talden shouts as he runs over to the old man. Taking a quick glance around to make sure that there were not threats in sight in he bends over to check the old man.

Seeing the crossbow bolt he turns and shouts to the others.

"Hey! Old Carter's been hit with a crossbow bolt! Did anyone see a goblin with a crossbow?"

"Hang on old man. Why did these goblins want you dead? What's going on?"
