Thaddeus curses inwardly at the ineffectiveness of his firebomb. Someday soon I won't need sunrods and oil flasks to spark a conflagration. I am close to having the control to cast spells of the third circle. That way lies true power for me on the battlefield. In the meantime though...
He will sight on the wounded bugbear near A11 and fire. If he doesn't have a shot at the All bugbear, he will return fire at the B5 bugbear. Light crossbow shot at the wounded bugbear. (1d20+7=15, 1d8=2)
Thaddeus will then reload his crossbow.

Jaques, upon consideration, decides the lone bugbear casting spells, is more his "sized portion", and moves out towards him with as much speed as stealth can manage. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 I really wish I had more at my disposal, to alleviate the archer fire, but they don't need another person in need of rescue at this point. please apply any relevant bonus's to the hide roll, considering he's behind the archers and as yet not a party member known to be in existence. In other words, shouldn't they be concentrating on the ones fighting them?

Agathon readies his smoke stick.
Thaddeus does spot the wounded bugbear, but with the -2 penalty for range and cover bonuses he misses.
I was going to use the die roller Paizo installed, but it's going to make my posts too confusing as I have to make contingencies if the bad guys hit or miss or whatever. I'm going to return to rolling behind the DM screen, leaving some die rolls on the site for dramatic effect at my discretion
Bugbear B5 attacks Belric. Miss.
Belric misses, assuming he's still up.
Bugbear B6 attacks Belric. He fumbles. Belric's attack of opportunity also misses.
B2 appears to be readying a bow shot and looking in Agathons' direction, but only Thaddeus notices.
B3 and B4 also ready arrow shots. It looks like they're going to put an arrow into anyone they can spot. They can fire at Thaddeus, but are choosing not to at this point.
The less armored spear wielding bugbear moves cautiously towards the rocks in A11. He'll be in A8 at the end of this round.
No one disturbs Jacques as he sneaks up on the less heavily armored spear wielding bugbear. Jacques can attack the bugbear next round with a surprise action (he thinks), but it's likely he'll be shot at by the bugbears in the rocks who have bows ready. They would be firing into melee with one of their own however.....

Gritting his teeth against the arrows he knows are probably coming his way, Agathon will pop up (barely enough so that he can see his target and make the throw… in an attempt to take maximum advantage of cover) and throw the stick.
Agathon is aiming for a clear square as close in front of the guys in and around Square A-11 as possible (in order to obscure their vision in this direction…):
Throwing his Smoke Stick using his BAB + Strength: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Seeing the stick make its arc toward its target, and realizing just how poor his throw was, he will turn and immediately begin his full blast run.
[ooc]This will actually begin next round. That is, providing Agathon survives the hail of incoming arrows…

Almost! I almost got him. Just a little more elevation should do the trick....
Thaddeus sights on the seriously wounded bugbear once more and squeezes the trigger carefully, with better aim this time... 2nd crossbow shot at bugbears (1d20+5=19, 1d8=6) -2 for range included this time since A11 is 85' away
...and smoothly loads another bolt. He watches the new arrival intently.
if Thaddeus no longer has LOS to the wounded bugbear, he will shoot at the new arrival (still with -2 range penalty), or at B6 (no range penalty cause they're 72' away, but -4 for firing into melee).

Agathon's throw lands 10' short. He receives two arrow shots from B2 and B3, both of which miss. They now go on his initiative.
Thaddeus fires at the seriously wounded bugbear and ends his miserable struggle with his noncompliant intestines.
B4 shoots back at Thaddeus and misses.
Belric hits B5 and kills him with a desperate axe blow. He steps into F2SE
B6 attacks Belric but misses, stepping out of the rocks into F2SW
The spear wielding bugbear in A8 casts a spell towards Thaddeus. Thaddeus feels the effect of extreme sleepiness come on but is able to fight it off and recover from the tempting slumber.
Jacques crouches in wait, waiting for the perfect moment to strike the spellcasting bugbear.
I don't feel comfortable running a PC for a player who can't post. I know RL intrudes, but if you let an entire day go by without posting, your character does nothing. Now, I don't mind if you make arrangements with another player to handle your character's actions for a time, however long, but I as a DM don't feel comfortable doing it.

Good! Got him! And Belric dropped one of his too! That leaves Belric with one, two more in the trees, and the spellcaster. Sleep? I don't think so sparky! Now if Agathon would just decide which direction to go, and if Jacques would make an appearance and paste the spellcaster, we'll be doing well.
Thaddeus should have a clear shot at the spellcaster: Shot at bugbear spellcaster (1d20+7=24, 1d8=6) no penalty for range since he's 70' away. If I have no shot at the spellcaster then I'll shoot at B6 instead.

As he sees the two arrows fly past his head from behind (one dragging its feathers across his right ear), Agathon will take in a sharp breath, grit his teeth even harder and run flat out for Belric and his remaining foe.
As he runs, he will attempt to run in a line that keeps the rocks he was hiding in between himself and the archers in Square A-11for as long as possible…
An intelligence Check to see if he can accurately project a course to keep the rocks between him and the archers based entirely upon his memory of where they are in relation to where he is running: (1d20+1=9)
Without realizing it, Agathon chooses a course for his run that probably does not keep the rocks for cover for very long…
As he moves through the muck and loose ground, Agathon does his best to keep from slipping…
A Balance Check for Agathon's run over slightly difficult terrain: (1d20+3=12)
If he can make it all the way to where Belric is in one run (and he is not gunned down from the rear), he will come up short. Ending 5 or so feet from the remaining Bugbear.

Agathon runs to aid Belric. He draws no fire and doesn't fall down. Ends in F2NW
Archer B3 appears to take aim towards Thaddeus' direction.
Thaddeus readies an action to fire at the spellcaster as soon as he sees him cast a spell.
B4 shoots an arrow at Agathon now, but misses.
Belric takes a step back to F2SE and heals himself.
Bugbear B6, already slightly wounded, runs to C1. His move took him through the rocks at F1 to avoid Agathon, so his total run as slowed significanly.
Bugbear spellcaster begins to cast spell and is nailed by Thaddeus' crossbow bolt AND Jacques stunning fist attack at the same time. He's wounded and stunned and can't act next round. His spell is gone too.
Bugbear B3 fires at Thaddeus as he popped up, but his shot missed too.

Knowing that there is no way we will get into range to hit the Bugbears in Square A-11 this round (while staying with Belric, anyway)... Agathon will run with Belric back to the rocks where he found cover before... This is on a nearly straight line path toward them anyway... Those rocks are just shy of Belric's full possible movement in a run in this terrain as well...
As Agathon and the dwarf run toward the three Bugbears, Agathon will point ahead to the cover and say, “Aim for yonder rocks!”
A Balance Check for the Run action back to the rocks on our way to Square A-11: (1d20+3=13)
Once at the rocks, Agathon will remain on his feet but pause for a moment of cover behind the boulders.
Agathon will end his round under cover of the rocks in Square B-5SE (from the point of view of the Bugbears in and around A-11 anyway… the guy in C-1 will have a clear shot at us) still on his feet and ready to break cover and run the rest of the way together with Belric to those three bad guys next round…
If Belric slips and falls, Agathon will stop as well and help him back up. And/or if the Bugbears in A-11 shift their position radically, Agathon will also change course (and encourage Belric to follow him so as to better intercept them the following round...

Agathon runs towards the pile of rocks and ends his movement in square B5SE.
Bugbear B3 sees his buddy the spellcaster (shaman?) being pummelled by Jacques and comes down from his rocks to run towards Jacques, ending his movement in A7.
Thaddeus decides to target B3 instead, as he broke cover and slightly wounds him while B3 moves towards Jacques.
Bugbear B4 fires an arrow at Jacques, who deflects it harmlessly into the trees behind him.
Bugbear B6 runs full sprint, ending up in A5SE.
Jacques crushes the spellcasting bugbear's windpipe. He's dead, Jacques. Jacques notes the bugbear appears to be carrying a full scroll case and has a 'really nice' spear.
But there is a bugbear on him now, with an angry look and a sharp and rusty looking morningstar....and another one closing from the other direction.

Thaddeus will reload and take whatever looks like the easiest shot that will do the most damage. Right now that looks like B3 fighting Jacques but that could change...DM's discretion. Fire support (1d20+7=23, 1d8=7)
no range mods to B3 or B6, but by the time it is Thaddeus' turn to act they may be in melee with a -4 to hit. -2 range mod to B4 but he's in cover for whatever additional minuses.

Having reached the cover of the rocks, Agathon just now hears the Bugbear left behind splash up from behind. “Hmmph. He followed us!” He will think to himself.
Leaping forward through the muck of the ground near the rocks, Agathon will trudge over and attack the creature.
Agathon will move from B5SE to either B5NE or B5NW (whichever square does not contain Belric) and swing at Bugbear B6
A hit on the Bugbear in Square A-5SE with Ole' Blue: (1d20+10=18, 2d6+6=15)
Enduring the now familiar feel of the split of armor and the cut of living flesh, Agathon will think, “Whew! These dark filled beasts smell worse on the inside than they do on the outside!...”

Agathon steps up and kills B6 handily.
B3 attacks with his morning star and misses.
Thaddeus hits B3 with his bolt, solidly thunking the giant hairy goblin in the shoulder.
B4 fires at Thaddeus, hitting for 4 points of damage. No crit though.
Belric moves past Agathon to A7SW, but cannot attack the bugbear facing Jacques this round.
Jaques karate chops B3 into oblivion by driving Thaddeus bolt through the shoulder and into the heart with a well placed palm strike.

“Oooh, that had to hurt!” Agathon will say out loud as the bugbear falls to the ground after Jacques’ palm strike on the crossbow bolt…
As he says this, he launches himself into a full run to get around behind the remaining Bugbear:
A Balance check for running full blast in this Difficult Terrain: (1d20+3=13)
For this run, Agathon will use up as much movement as he needs to get right behind the last Bugbear. In this terrain, he can run 120 feet. The Bugbear is about 50 feet from Agathon at the beginning of the round. So, he will end the round in Square A-12 on the other side of him and begin to do his best imitation of an NFL Line Backer should this guy try to bolt…

Just wanted to make sure he got Thaddeus's point. Jaques says smiling, loudly enough for Agathon to hear him...but just. He scans the area for more adversaries, and drops his sling into his hand with a bullet. If nothing stands out that the others aren't already dealing with, he'll search the bodies at his feet. Let's see what mister-nice-spear has in his pockets...

Agathon runs up to block Bugbear B4, who takes off out of the trees like a scalded goblin. Agathon's attack of opportunity misses and the bugbear scrambles off down the hill through the bushes, making quite a bit of noise.
Thaddeus'shot misses.
Belric runs up to support Agathon, but is quite a bit slower. Belric is about 50' away from the bugbear at the end of the round and can see him sporadically through the foliage.
Jacques finds a small spell book, two scroll tubes, probably a magical spear with a sling attachment on the bottom, the sling that goes with it, sling bullets, an ivory necklace, 50gp, 25pp in a silk drawstring pouch and a silvered elven skull.

Belric will pull his cross bow, load it and wait for chance at shooting the fleeing foe.
"Aye Agathon, do ye need healing? I don't have much left, but if ye need it I can give it." Belric asked while occupied with pulling the string back into the catch, once the bolt is fitted he waits for an answer while siting on the fleeing bugbear.

|
“Blast!” Agathon will curse to himself as the Bugbear jinked to the left nearly throwing him off balance trying to correct his rightward swing.
Dropping the massive blade and drawing his bow, Agathon will take a shot at his nimble foe.
A Bow shot at the fleeing Bugbear: (1d20+9=12, 1d8=3)
Probably a miss.
“Blast…Blast…Blast!!!” Without hearing Belric's question in his anger at himself for missing twice, Belric can tell Agathon is about to run after the Bugbear…
Next round, of course…

Thaddeus will reload, and take a shot at B4 if he gets one: Shot at fleeing bugbear (1d20+7=25, 1d8=7) mods for range not included, but RI is 80', so even at 360' it's still a 19.
"Agathon, if you're going to go after him, you'd better get going! The rest of you, I think we'd better set to looting bodies and strike camp in case he makes it back to the mine alive!"
If he did not get a shot, Thaddeus will move towards a dead bugbear and start going through its pockets, removing armor and weapons for later collection, etc.

Agathon misses.
Thaddeus runs up just as the bugbear continues his escape attempt down the hill.

Agathon will charge off after the Bugbear. “Let’s get him, Thaddeus!” He will say as he begins to run with bow in hand…
A DC 10 Wisdom check to see if Agathon thought to grab his Heavy Pick: (1d20=6)
As he runs, he finally realizes that he has left behind all his melee weapons!
Like the young inexperienced fool he is, it never even occurred to him to grab the pick as he bolted into battle upon awakening from his nightmare...
Inwardly shrugging to himself he will mutter under his breath, “Well, I can still shoot and failing all else, a log will suffice to dispatch him. ”
As he approaches the place where he is going to stop to shoot his next bow shot (at or around the spot where he will end his run movement at the end of the round anyway) Agathon will scan the ground right on his course for a possible club (stick or small log).
If there is one in his path, he will stop right there to make the shot (so as to do a SA for the shot and MA for picking up the club next round).

If Thaddeus has a shot from his new position, he will take it, anticipating the bugbear's path and putting a bolt where Thaddeus thinks he will be. Shot at fleeing bugbear (1d20+7=25, 1d8=7) at 90' the range penalty is -2, which is not included. He will then reload.
If he does not have a shot, Thaddeus will run off with Agathon down the hill in hot pursuit, but will smartly hit the deck at Belric's cursing over his stray bolt: DC10 balance check. (1d20+3=8) This happened about 25' down the hill see how far I got down the hill (1d100=43) I figured 43% of 60' is around 25' - had to happen at some point during the run.

Jaques, seeing the others unable to run down the escaping bugbear, (who inconveniently does not drop from the bullet wound)decides he may after all be the person best suited to run the thing down. Monk movement, zero encumberance, no unweildy weapons to get hung up on trees... He takes off after the bugbear, running, to try and make up for lost time and distance. He will attack with open hand flurry of blows, when he catches it. I hope he doesn't find some friends before I reach him.

Agathon stops and finds plenty of clubs, but they're not balanced and there is a -2 penalty to use them as a weapon.
Thaddeus hits the bugbear with a nice arcing long distance crossbow shot. The bugbear keeps running.
Belric misses.
Jacques catches up with the bugbear, who appears pretty wounded from the crossbow bolt and bullet from the previous round. There are no other enemies visible at this time. Jacques and the bugbear are about 150' off the map now. Thaddeus and Belric are still at row A of the map and probably won't get any more shots. Agathon is about 50' behind the bugbear.

A bow shot at the Bugbear: (1d20+9=23, 1d8=2)

Those are the right two for the job of running someone down. Belric is hurt; stay with Belric. None of us should ever operate alone out here anyway.
Thaddeus will commence to looting bodies, putting everything of value in one or two piles for later collection. He will consider making an effort to hide the bodies, but they are too heavy for him to move, and there aren't a lot of branches or leaves around. Guessing survival check? Agathon's bow shot hits but does not drop the bugbear.
The bugbear attacks Jacques with his morningstar, misses and tries to run off, moving about 15' away with a move action.

With lopsided grin firmly in place, Agathon lets out a small “Whoop!” as he sees Jacques pummel the Bugbear. He will pour on the speed (run full speed) right up to the Bugbear.
Or rather, he will get as close as he can get to the beastie in the hopes of at least getting an AoO later this round as it tries to run away from Agathon once again…
I don’t think that Agathon can get that far this round though… But, just in case… That’s the plan. If he can't get there, then he will end his run at the end of the round and fire a bow shot next round...
Note to DM: Wielding his makeshift club, Agathon will be +8 (unless the bless is still in effect, then +9) to hit and will do 1d6+4 of damage. You probably know all that; but, I ‘m just trying to be helpful…

Thaddeus will continue searching bugbear corpses, placing everything small and value dense (coin, jewelry, etc) into a sack that he carries with him (in case a hasty retreat is called for), and the other heavier equipment stacked neatly for later retrieval. Thaddeus will also make sure to keep the spellcaster's items with him.
If that is complete, he will return to camp to help Belric with breaking down the camp, loading mules, saddling horses, and so on.
If we finish that task, we will lead the horses and mules back to the scene of battle. Thaddeus will stand watch first while Belric prays to regain spells, then we can switch off.
Not sure how the time difference will work out; we have two PC's still tactical and two who aren't...I'm sure we'll come back in phase at some point.

I wonder if touching that silvered elf-skull has cursed me? Though I pocketed the small stuff, that thing, sitting atop the spear stuck in the ground, should attract Thaddeus's attention. Maybe he can tell if it, or the spear are cursed. Jaques continues his run-down of the bugbear, again leaping at him, jabbing for vulnerable points with a flurry of blows.

"Wheeey, Horsey!" Belric uses his skills of attempting to calm his horse as he tries to saddle it. It probably dinna like da smell o da hairy gobbers, canna blame it.
Remembering how Agathon soothed his horse, Belric attempts the same tactic, pulls out some dried apple and gives it to the beast, "Ow, ye creature o Hades! That was uncalled fer!"
Aye ta be sure he be laughing at meself
Belric will continue to break camp, load animals and such

The bugbear hits Jacques for 6 points of damage before Jacques puts it down with two expert blows, one fracturing a rib and the other its neck.
Thaddeus evaluates the take: 45gp, 25pp, 155sp, a +1 spear labelled as such by its craftsman, an elven weaponsmith from the Vesve Forest, a necklace worth 50gp and a clerical scrolltube of fine platinum enrusted with symbols of death and skeletal figures (worth at least 250gp, but possibly magical itself) and a spellbook.
Animals loaded and camp is broken. Agathon and Belric can return to camp. No other enemies are spotted. It is still dawn, getting lighter now.

Helping the smaller man remove what few valuables there are from the body, Agathon will say in clear appreciation of his work, "Your skills are growing, Jacques! You are indeed a formidable fighter."
Upon reaching the camp to find Belric working on a saddle, Agathon will quietly walk about the animals to see if any corrections are needed in the tack or seat of the rigs (and secretly making such corrections, being sure to praise the cleric's work no matter what...).
Once all is in order, he will say to the group, “I am no military tactician and I am certainly in possession of no special store of wisdom regarding these Bugbears. But, it seems to me that these creatures are armed as a hunting party. This might indicate that there could be several such groups about. Feeding a garrison, no matter its size requires a good deal of meat. It was thus with the caravan in which I made my way from the Great City (meaning Greyhawk) to Knurl. We would often have to stop for days while we ventured aside the road to forage for meat, and I suspect that the 30 or so we had to feed was a much smaller force than is in the mines."
Looking at each of his companions in turn (his trademark lopsided grin nowhere in evidence), he will say, “With such foraging parties abroad from the mine, their numbers are nicely depleted. I think that an immediate assault on the mines has the greatest chance of success. As to the assault, should we hit the crevasse we found, or try the front gates? What think you all?”
His face will tighten as he continues to hide the pain from his wounds; yet, he will manage to straighten up his back a bit more when he suddenly sees all the blood that Jacques has lost with his own wounds that he was hiding.
“Is the power of great Moradin close to your healing finger tips, my friend?” Nodding in Jacques direction, he will add, “If we may once again beg for your blessing, we all are sorely in need of it!”

In response to Agathon's complement about fighting, Jaques tells him, "The key was to focus on finesse rather than power, I think. I could not match your strength, but my strikes became more effective when aimed better". Jaques attempts to use his healing skills on both Agathon's and his own wounds with some simple bandages. It's not magic, but every little bit helps "I agree, if Belric's prayers for more healing magic are granted, we should probably go after the mines today. An alternative would be to wait near the mine and attempt to ambush parties as they send them out, looking for this lost patrol, further depleting their numbers. However, we would lose any remaining element of surprise, as the remainder became ever more wary".
