Vethran intones a quick spell before following his companions in through the window.
Casting detect magic before going in. It's at-will, so why not? I'm looking for anything magical in the room that might be of value, but also wary for any illusions or anything that might look "odd."
Hudak doesn't find a sandwich, but he does find three wands, a potion, a scroll, a belt and two strange idols. Two of the wands radiate necromancy, the other evocation, while the idols radiate conjuration and the amulet transmutation. The scroll radiates necromancy and the potion looks like a fairly standard potion of Cure Moderate Wounds.
If anyone wants to cast Read Magic, or can make a Spellcraft check DC 23:
Spoiler:
The scroll is Animate Dead.
If anyone want to try a Knowledge (Arcana) on the idols (+2 if you are a Varisian spell-caster), DC 15:
Spoiler:
The idols are Varisian idols, which grant summoned monsters +2hp per HD. The idol's power is consumed by the spell.
EDIT: Just checked and Detect Magic lets you identify items (Identify now just gives you a +10 to the roll). So, for anyone who has Detect Magic going:
0th: all standard except Abjuration and Enchantment
1st: chill touch, grease, mage armor, ray of enfeeblement, reduce person, true strike
2nd: blindness/deafness, false life, ghoul touch, mirror image, summon monster II
3rd: displacement, fly, summon monster III, vampiric touch
4th: bestow curse, contagion, dimension door
Checking the doors, one (D6) simply goes into the foul-smelling closet, the other (D8) leads to a corridor heading east for about 25' (E-I/8) before turning north. There is a door on the south side at the end (I9).
Vethran scrutinizes the items for a few moments, scratching the stubble on his chin.
"The scroll is used to animate the dead so that they may serve the caster. The idol is a Varisian idol, used to empower the summoning of creatures. I have no particular need for it, but if Elisile or Alwyn intends to conjure anything, it may be of some use. The wands are ray of enfeeblement, magic missile, and vampiric touch. Unless anyone else wants them, I believe I can put them to good use. As for the belt... the nature of it's enchantment escapes me for the moment. It will have to bear more scrutiny later, unless one of you can puzzle it out?"
Vethran peruses the tome briefly, nods, and tucks the book away into the bag of holding.
"Elisile, you and I can take a closer look at this later, though it seems there's precious little that you may find useful. Unsurprisingly, it would seem our corpulent madam here is a necromancer."
Elisile stands at the doorway, the door opened just a crack, peering out, keeping watch into the corridor beyond. Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 As Illes has dismissed his silence spells, she does not trust that someone else within the house might not hear them talking.
Assuming it appears to be all clear, she turns momentarily as Vethran describes the items, murmuring a detection spell of her own Detect Magic and examines the belt. Spellcraft: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
“It is a belt that enhances the wearer’s constitution,” she says quietly, handing the item to Hudak, his joke having been lost in translation. “A lesser example of such work, but still useful.” Belt of Mighty Constitution +2

Hudak's already got the +2 STR belt Veth made for him. Alwyn could use it, though. Always good to have a healer with more HP!
If I could call dibs on anything, I'd like the STR belt. I'd suggest Elisile takes the CON belt, as she occasionally engages in melee, and that Hudak takes either the ring or the amulet (Illes gets the other one). Vethran and Elisile split the arcane stuff. The rest we sell.
"So.... Vethran, with the scroll you just found, can you animate the dead guys out fron? If we had a couple of zombies, we could march them around the house and set off traps."
"Even animating such thugs as those guys? I could see that animating the bodies of good men would be an evil act, but those... See it as a first taste of their miserable afterlife."
"Now, animating the dead is clearly an unnatural act. They must be destroyed before we leave this place." He nods at the chopped-up ex-zombies. "However, that won't be too difficult."
BTW, I helped myself to the STR belt and adjusted my profile accordingly.
“My people say that using such magic – animating corpses – tarnishes one’s soul,” she warns at Alwyn’s suggestion.
"Well, I can see that, but I figure....we just came in here, and carved all these ogreroids up. I think they deserve it if anybody does, but, I mean, how good is all THAT for your soul? I don't know, just an observation."
"Yes, using the scroll to animate the dead would not be a difficult task. I am no stranger to necromancy, nor do I fear it intrinsically. If trap-catchers are what you wish, then you shall have them... though I feel that the scroll may perhaps serve a better use further down the line."
I added all the wands and the scroll to my profile. If Elisile wants any of it, let me know.
So hang on, are we doing the zombie thing? If not, Elisile will lead the way, creeping forward down the passageway, looking and listening carefully as she goes. Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27; Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Either way, Elisile’s Cat’s Grace spell has probably run out, she will cast Protection From Evil on herself when she is about to head down the corridor, recalling the spell instantly with her pearl of power.
Illes belatedly and reluctantly climbs through the window. He starts to kneel and retrieve his arrow, but seeing the filth of the floor leaves it, "Gah! Careful! Don't knock over any piss buckets. I'll probably have to burn these clothes by the time we get out of here..." He lifts his scarf to cover his nose and mouth with one hand and holds the shortbow in the other. Abruptly removes the scarf and sings a short phrase in Varisian while pointing at the other members of the group in turn, "Kai tha aksousete otan milao!"
Replacing the scarf he whispers, "Okay, for an hour whisper anything anywhere in this house and I will hear you and you will hear me. If we get separated for any reason, remember this." Despite still being over by the window you can hear him as clearly as if he were whispering in your ears.
*Varisian (but really greek) And they shall hear when I speak Cast Message
"Do we wanna do this door in, or somebody wanna check it out and listen first? Anybody can you look for a trap? I don't want to get hurt by secret stuff."
door at H7 (whenever we have some group decision, I'll try it)
strength check
roll
Spoiler:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
So my success or failure doesn't even subconsciously taint any decisions......
A mangy bearskin rug lies before a tremendous hearth set into the wall, its pained visage still snarling at whatever cruel hunter took its life. A huge couch haphazardly upholstered in animal skins and human flesh, replete with a collection of talons, monstrous hairy spider's legs, fox heads, and human hands and feet, sits to the west. A cobweb-covered door leads outside to the porch. The room is otherwise empty.
The room covers E-M/9-11. The couch is at F-G/10, the fireplace at M/9-11. The exterior door should be the one at H12.
Elisile sees no one. However, she does notice that the floor around the couch looks very unsafe, quite probably deliberately rigged to collapse if anyone should approach.
