Has anyone else picked up this gem yet? It's old school WOD at it's finest, in my opinion. Uv-wuv-LOVE it.

No, but I've given it some consideration. What's the style like? It is dark heroism (like Aberrant) or more high action/fantasy (like Exalted)? I'm also curious to know if they're using the new Storytelling system from the nWoD as the dice mechanic for it or if they're using the old Exalted (or even old school WoD ruleset).

Well, it is certainly dark- even refreshingly so, considering the new strain of white wolf stuff and the somewhat upbeat nature of Exalted. The game is very much a standalone thing, they've tweaked the combat system, nature/calling system and..well, almost everything you know and love about the nWoD or oWoD system to make Scion stand on it's own. It can be run as a dead serious game of finding out who and what you are meant to be or a lighthearted series of Aesopian fables. I say, check it out.

Love the concept. Bought the book and now to sit and devour. My only problem is that I find the WoD system too open ended. Just my take on it having run a Changling game back in 98'.

White Wolf has great settings with plenty of flavor.

Aiyiyiyiyi...changeling. I feel your pain on the open ended tip, but Scion has a rather solid system that stands up to cursory twink attempts. Who's your favorite god so far? I'm leaning towards Zeus, not just because I'm a sagittarian, but because they show him to be a god but still rather imperfect(again, like all sagittarians)

It is a slightly modified and pretty simplified Exalted2e system (most notably no Charms). With some Aberrant thrown in - like Mega Attributes.

It does focus on heroic action, but I would not say that it is high action. More of a strange mix of dark heroism and action. But then again, every GM is going to put their own spin on things.

I will also say that the main book Scion: Hero focuses on the rules more than the setting. I think people are hoping that Scion: Demigod will have more on the flavor side.

Here is a Review.

Settings are great but often its the rules that make the game teachable and playble.

Rules are necessary to the flavor of a game, but the DM always has control and final say.

And the GM and his final say are even more important when a game group shares one book and it used complicated rules.

Back when White Wolf was all d10's I used to run a Vampire and Werewolf game. I also owned Mage and we played the crossover adventures along with Chicago by Night. Anywhoo, I have a few players that are interested in Scion. Is the new d20 version that much different from the old White Wolf Products? And do I need that World Of Darkness book to play it?

-V-

Anyone have any experience with this system yet?

This is on my list of *must run* games and I'm curious how it plays for other folks.

I seriously want to run a game for Norse Scions involving a reincarnation of the Sybil and the Voluspa prophesy coming to fruit.

This isn't a d20 game.

No, you don't need the World of Darkness book. It has its own set of rules.

Is this the right system to "game" the new Percy Jackson movie coming out?
