Interesting article.

With all this number crunching and code-like efficiency, Champions seems like a perfect fit for a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG). So it makes perfect sense that Champions Online would leverage the HERO System. Unfortunately, that's not the case, according to the Hero Games web site:

With great power comes great responsibility.

Champions IP with Marvel rules... now does Grond have Amazing(r) Strength or just Incredible(r)?

Ack! Thanks, hopeless!

Jack the guy who actually gave City of Heroes E.D., yes that was the name of a massive game wide nerf, is also involved in Champions MMO. So you can pretty much bet it will not be worth your time. Even if it starts out fun, it will end up broken.

Yes, that patch was Awesome!

It is one of the primary reasons that I (and my RL wife) dropped out of the game. :(

Hiya.

Link is DOA, but I can get the jist of it as I heard about the lack of "actual HERO System-ness" of it a while ago.

When I first heard of CO, I was *thrilled*. I've always been intregued by the system...never actually played it, but still bought some stuff for it (5th edition stuff). When I heard about the MMO, I thought "Perfect! The system is all point-based and has been balanced to almost death, should be a snap!

... and then "Uh, no, it's not the Hero System".

My first reaction was "WTF!?!??! Why in gawds name, not?!?". And, honestly, that's still my reaction. If they are going to call it "Champions Online", with charcters from the Champions RPG 'universe', it should very well be at least mostly based on the same system as the RPG. Otherwise, what's the point? They might as well call it "Uberguys Online", or "Heroic Personages Online".

...sniff... so, sooooo disappointed...*sniff*

Or you know... City of Heroes.

Anyone have any ideas how to implement a Variable Power Pool into a computer game?

hehe...yeah. My wife and I have been subscribers to CoH/V for over 51 months now. And no, we *still* don't have 50th level guys...we don't play it for the xp and such...we play for fun and RP'ing (and having a severe case of altitis doesn't help). ;) Thing we like the most about CoH/V? Fast and simple. No crazy rules for crafting (simple rules), and even if you are 1st level and somebody gives you 1,000,000 Influence, your 1st level charcter will *not* completely overshadow other 1st level characters...and the "Sidekick" thing is pure awesome! Oh, we also like that they come out with "Issues" every few months, for free, that add/change stuff in the world. Very cool.

^_^

The biggest problem is their customer service is the worlds worst; I mean absolutely aweful. I have nothing postitive to say about the bleep bleeps at this company; so I am not gonna play their game; sheesh; after two years of waiting and being on their boards just to get cheated by those suckers; hope they all get nurgle's rot until they change thier ways.

guess I will keep playing coh/cov until marvel or dc comes out with a game.

Champions Online never pulled at me. Something about the graphics bothered me and still does.

I still like City of Heroes/Villains, though I confess still being miffed that the power gamers completely destroyed the architect system within weeks of release.

hehe; I love to have my Bone Maiden villian; who is a necromancer; read the paper while all of her minions bow down and worship her; is so cool to be able to have your guys do that; very villianess-like. The game has lots of great emotes and stuff; but to be able to do that is the bomb.

i was jazzed about champions until they pulled the script and rewrote it for archtypes; they screwed me out of my lifetime membership so I am not gonna play it.
