So if you're making a tiny race: Smurf for a homebrew. What would their favored class be? What would some racial abilities be?

Smurf

Smurf, smurf, and +3 at smurfing.

(Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Modules Subscriber)

Their favored class is the Flumph-Rider prestige class, from WotC's Races of Flanders.

Assuming you are serious for a moment.

I would make them similar to any other fey. They are going to get good hide bonuses from their size, so give a bonus on top of that. After all isn't half the fun when you can hear them laughing, talking and playing music but can't see them at all?

They are immortal but need to eat and sleep.

Magical abilities? One way Tongues ability on at all times? (They understand you and talk back in your language but still use smurf for every smurfing thing till you want to smurf the smurf right through the smurfer!)

I'm serious in that it is a fun topic, but I'd like to know people's serious opinion on smurfs. (and maybe, just maybe, I'd like a race of smurfs in my homebrew, somewhere)

I'd look past the cartoon to the Belgian folklore, then.

I thought Belgians were smurfs? *rimshot*

Favored class? I don't know, but I'd guess it'd be the Chosen of Banjo.

Forget Favored class. Just think about what one who takes levels in Ranger would use as a Favored Enemy... Gargamel.

Would they all be male? Smurfette was made by Garamel...so no naturally occuring females?

Also would there be a spell to create them...

Fizz

I think favored class should vary, depending on the name of the Smurf...

$murf
Race: Fey
Size: Diminutive
Damage Reduction 5/Cold Iron
Speed: 15 ft
Lowlight
Spell-like abilities: 3/day: speak with animals, calm animal, summon nature's ally I
Languages*: Common; Bonus Languages: Druid**, Elven, Sylvan, Orc, Gnoll
Favored Class: Druid

*No matter language a $murf is speaking, their speech is filled with "$mufisms". This causes all $murfs to take a -10 on disguise checks when speaking if trying to seem to be another race.

**$murfs can learn the druid language even if not a druid.

I like, Only thing I'd add is a +2 to singing. But druid doesn't seem right to me ...

Expert (though NPC classes for favored is silly)? Rogue? Bard? Ranger?

I just thought druid because $murfs always seem to get along well with most animals (stocks), except maybe cats, and most types of fey creatures.

Well, Papa Smurf is probably a druid, that does make sense...and rest of the community speaks druidic language, but I would indeed guess that favored class is "Expert". In many eays smurfs are not exactly "adventurer" type.

against them to multi-class. So a fighter/expert and a rogue/expert might be common smurfy classes, but having a bunch of druid/ranger or druid/fighter wouldn't make sense.

So, favored class should definitely be expert.

As for PapaSmurf, I don't think he is a druid. He does a lot of alchemical work and has a tome of lore. I'm thinking wizard.

For racial abilities, they could have a sonic based attack. A song that causes 'confusion' as per the spell if enough of them get together. Maybe let a single smurf use 'lesser confusion' once per day.

I made some dire smurfs somewhere's. They were barbarians with axes and painted themselves with woad.

Terry Pratchett's Wee Free Men spring rapidly to mind. And why am I suddenly a Smurf? Who at Paizo is in on this?

It's a bit of matter of different magic systems, they don't always translate that well to D&D terms (there's all that "Gandalf was level 5 magic user" thing)...indeed he is mostly dabbling with alchemy, so wizard might be option, or druid with some craft feats (as his alchemy tends to concentrate on natural phenomena) and plenty of skill ranks in knowledge skills (and some diplomacy).

I would so give my left smurf for a riding flumph. I would call him Eggbert.

Right up there with Fraggles, Munchkins and their aquatic-kin Snorks...

Favored Class: Bard
Racial Ability: Bonus Feat, 'Skill Focus: Profession'

Dire Smurf!

And just when I thought Heathy was slowing down a bit he comes up with another great post.

All this is reminescent of the D20 Gummy Bears game. One of the great free downloads on the net.

Smurfs have a standard speed of 30ft, see how they always end up outrunning Gargamel.

Being a wizard's apprentice is a good life for a smurf.

The three keys to leadership- Smurfaration, Smurfiration, and smurf. (Preparation, Inspiration, and fear)

Dire smurfs' favored class is barbarian.
They live in different mushroom lodges, each with a "smirfirvattur" who knows how to prepare the shrooms for berserking.

The dire smurfette is more feared by the enemy than the smurf warrior; they usually follow the smurfhost into battle, taunting them to insure bravery, emasculating cowards; finishing off the wounded enemies; that sorta thing.

As wacky as it initially seems it could make for some interesting "moral" adventure hooks: the PCs learn the magic that turns smurfs to gold. Will they kidnap smurfs and turn them into gold? Or better, they learn someone has kidnapped smurfs and must either rescue them or try to steal the golden smurfs their own.

What if each golden smurf would fetch 10,000gp?!

Would you turn your familiar into gold and sell it?

Transmute Smurf to Gold (evil)

M S V (1 smurf)

12pounds of gold for each little smuf what a return rate!!.

First things first kill gargamel, I hate competion, second start kidnapping/killing helpless cr 1/4 forest creatures until you lure one hot headed smurf into a trap then just wait for the rest. They always come to the rescue and with a simple "Wards&Guards spell or better yet a hemisphere of force you will have several hundred pounds of gold just waiting to be made. Make sure you dont wipe out the whole village because you'll need more smurfs later.

Upon reading their stat block, I notice they take double damage from lawn mowers and similiar devices. Quadruple on a critical hit.

*starts +5 Keen Viscious Lawn Mower*

I'm so glad I just had this old thing lying around, it's been a while since I last used it...

*Starts running the tiny blue abominations with lawn mower*

*unleashes badger horde to eat the mushroom houses*

I would say bard for Smnrfs also...Since they're always dancing and singing and are completely useless...(I like bards, so that's a joke heh)

Papa Smnrf had magic in the show, so perhaps he's an adept?

Bards do indeed have magic, which really seems the way to go. Smurfs are kinda magical, but not tremendously so, they're clever, they're always singing. It seems like a perfect fit to me. There'd probably be plenty of Smurf Rogues and Druids and Rangers, but Bard just seems to be the obvious choice for favored class to me.

Anyone can take Craft: Alchemy, including Bards, and those tomes could just as well be masterwork Knowledge tools.

Drone is the favored class of Species 692

just smurfing my post count post.
