In reference to the Practised Spellcaster Feat out of Complete Arcane, it basically allows you to have a caster level up to +4, but no greater than your PC HD. Let's say that I have a 6th level sorcerer and upon 7th level, I pick up a level of fighter. I pick up the Practised Spellcaster feat so I can cast as a 7th level sorcerer. At 8th level, I meet the obligation for the Eldritch Knight PrC. I should be able to cast as an 8th level sorcerer.
Now when I take a 2nd level into EK and I resume increasing in my spellcasting class to gain new spells and spell levels, how does the feat come into place? Would I be casting as a 9th level sorcerer, but advance as a 7th level sorcerer when it comes to spell slots and spells per day?

That's pretty much correct. You get the damage boosts to your spells as if those two levels of Fighter were Sorcerer instead, but have the spells known and per day as your class levels actually are.
Practiced Spellcaster doesn't give you advanced spells known/per day of the non-caster HD... and I've had players try to convince me it does, so I'm a bit jumpy on the gun, so apologies for the original version of this post... just increases the damage and potency and other level-based effects.

I agree. I imagine they'll have to come up with an equivalent (if they do) as I wonder if the original feat as-is is not open content? *shrug* Having some of those other feats made available will help label them with the 'canonical' tag that some people deem imperative versus shunning 3PP (which I've seen some begin to treat the old 3.x WotC products in such fashion).
