Sure, feel free to send me a quick e-mail from work so I can send you a google wave invite before I turn in for the night.

Man googlewave is complicated. Sorry guys, the game sounds awesome, but it's a bit much for me right now. I'm going to have to drop out.

Now if the game was on Paizo or Barroks-Tower, it would be a different story.

E-mail sent.

Evening to all.

That is OK.

I made my last post kind of late last night and I get up at 0510 in the morning (East coast of the US) to go to work. But, it is always a good idea to capitalize on the enthusiasm so as to not lose the party, IMO. Have fun, guys.

All right... I have Google Wave, addy is djvandebrake AT googlewave dot com. Oh, and I figured out where those extra skill points came from, Alexander - PCGen differentiated the Perception checks made to spot traps, and the Acrobatics checks made to jump, from the main skills. It shows them on an extra line to make the math easier, but the ranks are from the same skill.

Fair enough if your sure Dragonborn. Abstract xp, im just waiting on an email from you to get you onto google wave and then everyones sorted.

I sent one through yesterday (I'm also GMT) and I've just re-sent it. I double checked the hotmail address. I'm hoping my addy isn't seen as spam.

If it still doesn't get through, I'll send it via another email address.

Got it now. Invite/e-mail sent.

PDF of my character sheet is on its way to you now. I'll update my character's background here - again within 24 hours.

Many thanks: try and get yourself onto the wave as soon as you can though (I have sent a wave invite to both of your e-mail addresses)

Just so I'm clear, we currently have:

TN Hobgoblin Druid
LN Human Monk
CN Half-Orc Rogue (going Wizard/Arcane Trickster)
CN Elf Ranger
CE Tiefling Bard

right? Were you going to open it for one more person, since dragonborn dropped, or leave it at five?

I've thought about opening it up but 6 seems like a lot to handle over PBP; what does the group think?

I'm cool with it six, though if you want to leave it at five that's up to you. In my experience it is a bit easier to handle six in PbP than in other media. First, the format tends to take a little more time, which reduces the amount of people trying to get your attention at once. Second, since PbP games have a high drop rate, adding in a few more people means that you are more likely to end up with a party the size you want afterwards. Third, more people can keep a game running - if you have something come up, and can't post for a week (for example), players will take more time to RP among themselves.

On the other hand, it is still more characters to keep track of, and will delay the game just a tad while person six makes a character and all.

(Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path Subscriber)

Anytime you go into something turn-based (like combat) additional people slow the game down. This effect is magnified in PBPs, because you not only have to wait for someone to post, you then have to wait for the next person to check on the game again and make their post. So in that respect my limited experience has been that 6 people is way too many, and even if people are responding within a few hours of each other a single combat round can take days.
On the other hand, if you don't intend for us to get into drawn-out turn-based stuff very often, additional people mean a greater frequency of posts, which can be a good thing.

That's a good point. One thing I did when running a PbP was to allow two "update" periods for people to post, and change their action if someone acting before them invalidated it. So, for example, if Persons A, B, and C, and enemy X are in combat, and the order is A, C, X, B... if A and B post my first update is only for A. My second is for C, X, and B. If C doesn't do anything, they are overwhelmed by the stress of combat, and simply take a full defense. If they do, then B has until that update to change his action. Same example above, if C and B have posted actions, then I don't update. If A then posts, killing X that C and B were attacking, C and B have until my next update to change their actions - if they don't, then I interpret their new action as best I can. It isn't perfect, but it does mean that a round of combat passes at least every two updates, sometimes every one.

Abstract i'm afraid we've started the party without you a little bit tonight- got some RP in and the first combat has just begun. You've been added to all the relevat waves; hope to see you soon!

If anybody wants to spectate this campaign (and give us a pool of people to draw from if someone gets too inactive) feel free to add me and send me a wave on google wave and i'll give you read-only rights to the IC wave- zathedakamon@googlewave.com

No worries - I'm sure I'll catch up (as long as I haven't died)!

I've already commented about numbers in PbP. For non-combat, the more the merrier, as players tend to interact with each other. I just started a PbP on these boards with seven players. After my first post, I had to wait for almost fifty posts before I could get a word in edgeways.

The downside is with combat and I believe it's best that players be as generic as possible. Rather than specifying a single goblin from a group, better if you allow the GM some flexibility. That way you can post out of order and still keep things moving. I often post and either/or - depnding on what has happened before my turn. This is particularly useful for cleric types who may engage in combat or do some healing, depending on how things have progressed.

Hey there, I'd be interested in getting in on this, if you do decide to open it up for a 6th slot. And I could have something statted up in a few hours.

If you already have google wave feel free to add me and we can have you as a spectator for now; give us a day or two to see how its working out with 5 before I make a decision on a 6th.

I don't have wave, I requested an invitation from the website but I've yet to receive an email back.

Hate to rush you Corvus but your the only one who hasn't yet acted in combat; I suspect we'll set up a 'default' action for each character so I can make rolls on people's behalf if I need to move things along.
