I am in no position to DM this, but I would love to play a pbp game in the Black Company Campaign Setting. I am just seeing if there is any interest in this out there.

And for anyone who hasn't read Glen Cook's Black Company or Dread Empire novels, you are missing out big time.

I actually have the Black Company setting, who put that out, I forget...That would be a lot of fun, so keep me in mind, he he.

Green Ronin. I really like what they did with some of the character classes, professions, and especially masterwork weapons. And the way the healing skill works is pretty interesting when mixed with certain feats.

I'm reading Soldiers Live now, the last one in the series, I also have the Campaign Setting.

I would also like to play in such a game.

I'm a big fan of The Black Company and the Green Ronin rpg is excellent. So tempting to give this a go. Never done a PbP before though. Is anybody willing to run something?

I would need to look into it, but I would consider it, I just need to reread most of it, because it has been a couple of years, at least since I cracked open the book.

BTW is there anywhere you can buy the PDF?

Alas no - selling the pdf wasn't part of Green Ronin's license agreement

That would be awesome.

If you do, I wouldn't mind helping with Pathfinderizing the classes.

Finished Soldiers Live yesterday. it was nice to read them all in sequence thanks to the new omnibuses! but I am hungry for more! "The Black Company" is still my favorite of the series, but it was good nonetheless

So, who is going to run this? :D

Pick up the Dread Empire series. I think they might even be better than the Black Company novels.

I'll have to check out the Dread Empire stuff too.

As for who's going to run it, it looks like that may depend on what system we would want to use. Personally I don't think it is worth 'Pathfinder-ing' the Black Company setting classes. We should just use the Green Ronin system.

When I first got the setting, I "updated" the ranger, d10 HD and giving it the some Pathfinder ranger abilities like like quarry, but keeping the rest the same. I figure the Berserker is fine, Fighter should be Pathfinder fighter, Jack-of-all-Trades and Scout HD update, Noble is fine, Thief use pathfinder rogue, Weapon Master uses monk AB for flurry, and Wizard and Zealot stays the way they are.

Also, I think usage of Pathfinder skills would be easier.

I haven't read the Green Ronin system very thoroughly. What are the major differences?

Magic use is probably the biggest difference. I need to start reading the book though, just too lazy, he he

Magic use is a HUGE difference. The Black Company setting magic system is...kinda complicated. I think it is unique from the Green Ronin books, but I'll double check. Either way, the variety of martial classes is pretty awesome.

Yeah it is very complicated. I know in the Midnight campaign setting, which is low magic, it also uses spell points, but the spells are similar to the 3.5 version. No drain though as with the BC setting. I wonder if you could combine the 2 systems without ruining the flavor of BC.

Magic is something that I look at last. I haven't looked at it for Midnight at all (don't tell nightflier). The BC setting wanted to stay true to the books, which involved a lot of preparation to cast spells and not so much blasting type spells, if any. Illusion was used a lot, and wizards could work together to cast spells. Also, the wizards tended to be bad ass. They were able to create spells that protected them from anything, kept them from aging, etc. Think of what it took to kill The Limper.

Yeah, if you are a player, you are right. But as GM who has to come up with the Evil Wizard NPC for you guys to kill, you kinda need to know it. It's not a bad system, just takes longer to prepare for it. Wish I had more time for it. I haven't read the BC books either, so I'm behind there as well.

I am playing a channeler(wizard) in the Midnight game here in PbP and that is what made me think of it. It has its own flavor, too.

Oh nightflier,

Spoiler:
I wanted to let you know Kratzee hasn't played Midnight, he he

Qadira (Paizo Charter Superscriber)

Yeah, the magic system is the big difference. They used it for their True 20 rules too so True20 Sorcery is an updated version of it. Some rules about initiative, major wounds, healing, etc are different too but nothing major.

Cool I did not know that, I am not famailiar with true d20 but at least it gives me something (else) to check out.

The BC books are well worth reading. They tend to "take over" until you finish them.

I have barely figured out the Pathfinder system as is and my GM experience consists of one PFS Scenario and some half-assed Shadowrun years past.
