I haven't played the minis game yet, though I have been collecting a-plenty for use in my 3.5/PF games. Anyway, I just signed up for a sealed Legenedary Evils tourney at my FLGS this weekend.
So what do I need to know to a) not look like a noob idiot, and b) bloodily destroy all opposition and score the sweet gift certificate prizes?
That the D&D Miniatures game is discontinued in Feburary?
How are you going to play in such a tournament or rather how is your FLGS going to host one? Where are the miniatures getting stats from to be a DDM game ,the last few sets just have the 4th edition stats.
What the heck is going on with all this? They killed this thing over half a year ago and now they're somehow going to start running events for it again?
I actually did a lot of DDM, it was a lot of fun. Simple, quite to play but with a huge amount of pieces to play with so it kept friendly games interesting. The collecting part was a huge pain and that put me out of the market for it for quite some time.
Somehow assuming that this is the same discontinued yet supported game, You'll want to keep track of your amount of activations. Activations were key in the old DDM game. It gave you a tactical advantage to in making your opponent have to think about how their spending their turn.
This is absolutely puzzling.
[edit] Oooooh, it's all fan based. Interesting! First I've heard of this.
Yep. Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures play lives on through a fan based but officially sanctioned group named DDMguild.
Their website is here.link
You can find the rules there and I think some strategy tips. Or at least links to strategy tips. Check it out and if you have any questions, let me know.
Paizo, hint hint nudge nudge poke poke, sells DDM minis here on their website. You can find them here.link
There are two types of tournaments, one has you purchase unopened boosters and use whats in the box for the match, the other allows you to create an army using your already purchased ones. The best thing about tournaments is finding fellow DDM players to play friendly matches with after the tournament is long over.
