I just got this link via the greytalk mailing list:
rumours about 4e ´hawk (text is in English, comments are German)
Now, it is just a rumour (seemingly originally from ENworld, which I don´t frequent), so take it with more than a grain of salt. If a book according to that rumour would be published, what would you think about it?

Well, it's probably about the only product for 4e that could attract my attention, these days. I'd probably check it out, but if it's redefined in the ways the rumors suggest, I don't think it'll do very well among the GH-fanboy crowd.

I like GREYHAWK in its role as the original D&D campaign setting, its swords 'n' sorcery feel more inspired by Leiber and Howard than say Tolkien, and very definitely it's low-magic feel compared to the Realms.

However, for all that it is still a somewhat 'generic' fantasy setting. Now the Realms have been blown up and partially weirdified, it could be said that there is an argument for a base, standard medieval D&D campaign setting and GREYHAWK may well qualify for that, especially if they are also going to heavily push an epic narrative-driven feel for DRAGONLANCE.

If they're not, and certainly many areas of the REALMS can still be run as a generic setting and if you're ignoring the metaplot than DRAGONLANCE is also generic setting, then I can't entirely see WotC supporting three quasi-generic medieval fantasy settings simultaneously.

I would certainly welcome a renewed World of Greyhawk. It was my first campaign setting and has always remained dearest to me.

But nothing about it appears on the release schedule through 2010. Dark Sun gets the nod next year so 2011 would likely be the soonest, if ever, that we might see a Greyhawk release.

We can always hope, but until there is official notice thats all it will be, just hope. . .

Interesting. Given how Grayhawk-intenstive my own Embria campaign is, I'll be really interested in finding out what they do with the old world.

Nothing's impossible, but I'd be very much surprised.

Throughout the 1980s, the game experienced remarkable growth. Novels, a cartoon series, computer games, and the first campaign settings (FORGOTTEN REALMS® and DRAGONLANCE®) were released, and in 1989 the long-awaited second edition of AD&D™ took the world by storm. The 1990s started out strong, with the release of more campaign settings (including RAVENLOFT®, DARK SUN®, and PLANESCAPE™), . . .

Greyhawk's entry was at the time startling in its absence, especially given the resources devoted to Living Greyhawk through the 3.x years.

Given that conspicuous omission, I think it's clear that, at least as of 2007, Wizards had no intention of bringing Greyhawk to 4e.

Well, I just learned that this "rumour" were in fact musings about what GH 4e book "should" contain in the eyes of a regular canonfire contributor. These musings made their way to ENworld as rumour somehow and were republished at the messageboards the link points to. So, these are not even rumours, but rather wishful thinking...
